Mr Munson is a Minister a long-term advocate for marriage equality and chose to marry homosexual couples in ACT recently before the legislation was thrown out by the High Court. Munson works with the Uniting Church as a locum and justified his actions in an ABC article. We will kindly address his justification to see if it is supported by scripture.

LOOK AT MUNSON'S LOGIC

1. "Being gay or lesbian, bi, whatever, is just who we are," he said. "It is not something people choose to do, it is just who we are.

Response: This is the 'born gay' argument or the 'gay gene' argument supported by Lady Gaga but not the Bible. The Bible does state we are ALL born in sin and this would include homosexuals, bi, or lesbians. The Bible also calls everybody to repent of sin and come to Christ. The Bible does not call us to celebrate our sin but repent of our sin. Homosexuality and lesbianism is listed clearly in scripture as a sin. Only Matthew 19:12 comes somewhat close to supporting Munson's argument where Jesus refers to natural born eunuchs. But upon closer examination and context it is irrelevant to homosexuality. Of course we are assuming Munson believes the Bible and is not a liberal?

Munson's argument also disregards what homosexuals are now claiming themselves when they say they are "fluid" which means they choose to change backwards or forwards through various bi-sexual to heterosexual to homosexual...a choice....a deviant choice.

Even if a person were to be born "that way" with a propensity towards something due to a gene or disease we don't encourage people to stay in that disease or addiction.
2. "People who think otherwise are doing so out of ignorance.

Response: If you disagree with me you are a bigot or ignorant. Right? This is not worth a response. This is a school yard put-down.

3. "When you see the struggles of people coming out and with their actual gender identity, you can't imagine why some people would deliberately choose that."

Response: When our culture re-labels dysfunctional behaviours by an advocate who examined criminal behavior in jails;then suggested homosexuality be re-badged; re-names and promoted as something good, of course the confused person will struggle with their identity. This is rather horrible for male teens in puberty, with various home or school issues, body conscious, confusion over friends, being imposed upon them. In that confusion, when homosexual advocates endorse, when shows like Glee falsely promote homosexuality it is no wonder that young people are easil;y led astray.

All people have various sexual temptations. The assumption is that those sexual temptations are right, correct, good, and healthy and must be acted upon. Unfortunately, that is not the case at all.

4. "They vilify and try to destroy these people through bullying and a lack of acceptance and that is not good enough."

Response: Homosexuals are the bullies here. Taking Christians and their business to court when people object to the sin of homosexuality. Dan Savage is the champion here. Christians do welcome all people, by welcoming them, they point all people, all sinner including themselves to Christ, who call us all to repent of our sin and not to celebrate our sin and brokenness.

5. "Jesus never said anything against people who are homosexual," he said.

Response: Jesus never said anything about smoking, driving cars, cocaine either! Alcohol is treated elsewhere in scripture but we do see Jesus at a wedding feast. But did Jesus speak about binge drinking?

Therefore we look at what Jesus did affirm about marriage and what the rest of scripture says. Jesus affirmed marriage clearly when asked a question about divorce. This was done in context of decadent Rome the capital of homosexuality, and Corinth.

Scripture condemns homosexuality consistently. The Bible is very clear the only sex permitted is between a male and a female in marriage. All other sexual relationship are defined as sin, regardless of what Hollywood preaches day in and day out.

6. "Jesus always welcomed people, had compassion and never judged people.

Response: Yes he did welcome people, had compassion and called them to sin no more. Later after this period of grace, Christ will judge the living and the dead. Extra judgement will be poured upon those teachers who misled people. People may claim to be Christians do all sorts of religious community works, preach, do miracles, etc but Christ will say to the: "I never knew you."

This is the time now for Munson to take people to the Cross of Christ, call for repentance of all sin including himself (I include myself) and to stop twisting scripture and leading people astray. Or resign from the Uniting Church and join the Metropolitan Community Church where his heretic theology will be welcomed.
