The defeat of the bill means that it will not pass to the lower Chamber of Deputies , and is effectively dead.  However, the country is rapidly approaching a deadline set by the Constitutional Court in a July 2011 ruling requiring homosexual couples to be given benefits similar to those associated with marriage. The defeat followed days of growing protests outside of the Senate building, with demonstrators chanting "I won't shut up, I won't shut up, marriage is between a man and a woman!" "The bill sank because it is not of general interest.  Heterosexual marriage is of public interest because it has to do with procreation and the conservatio...

Spain’s highest court: homosexual ‘marriage’ is constitutional

Image
November 8, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Spain ’s highest court, the Constitutional Tribunal , has ruled that homosexual “marriage” is not prohibited by the Constitution, Spanish news agencies are reporting. The decision comes in response to a lawsuit initiated in 2005 by the then-opposition People’s Party (PP) , which now controls the government, against a law establishing homosexual “marriage” passed by the then-ruling Spanish Socialist Worker’s Party and its allies.  The law also permits “married” homosexual couples to adopt children. The basis of the suit was Article 32 of the Spanish Constitution , which states that “men and women have the right to contract matrimony with full juridical equality,” implying that marriage is exclusively between a man and a woman. The ruling establishes Spain as one of the only two historically Catholic countries in Europe - Portugal is the other - to treat homosexual unions as “marriages” and to permit such couples to adopt childre...

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) May 24, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Colombian government has lost a battle in the country’s ultraliberal Constitutional Court to protect two Colombian children from adoption by an American homosexual activist. The Court has granted custody of two boys, ages 11 and 13 to Chandler Burr , a former perfume critic for the New York Times who is famous for promoting the claim that homosexuality is an inborn trait, an idea contradicted by numerous studies and regarded as unproven by many researchers. Burr’s s attempt to adopt the two Colombian children   ran into trouble   when authorities discovered his homosexuality, which was not revealed to them during the adoption process.  Colombia ’s General Procurator has declared its intention to ask for a nullification of the ruling, on the grounds that it violates the fundamental rights of children , and ignores the Constitutional principle that a fam...

Image
LJUBLJANA ,  - A referendum initiated by the Slovenian Civilian Initiative for Family and the Rights of Children (CIFRC) challenging the Slovenian Family Code adopted in June 2011, which gives same-sex couples the right to ‘marriage’ and adoption of children, was approved by the Slovenian Constitutional Court on December 27, 2011. “The Constitutional Court announced it had rejected the parliament’s request to stay the referendum on the controversial family law , meaning that the referendum will be held if the proponents manage to collect the requisite 40,000 signatures,” Ales Primc, head of the CIFRC, told LifeSiteNews. With the ruling from the court, pro-family forces will begin collecting signatures again this week. Mr. Primc explained that the government, alleging that the referendum campaign would be “undemocratic and intolerant,” had asked the court for a ruling on the constitutionality of the referendum in September. “We are very happy to be able to resume the collecting ...
