Judge tosses $104 million lawsuit against Christians evangelizing gay pride parade

Image
An Ontario judge has thrown out a $104 million class-action lawsuit against a Christian group that was sued by homosexual activists for defamation.  Homosexual activists argued that Toronto Pride Parade participants were defamed last year when the group, led by Christian activist Bill Whatcott , infiltrated the parade dressed as green "gay zombies" and handed out what looked to be free condoms that were really packets with information about the physical and spiritual dangers of homosexual practices. But Justice Paul Perell dismissed the case on a technicality, ruling in  Hudspeth v. Whatcott  that the homosexual activists George Smitherman and Christopher Hudspeth could not claim defamation of an entire group, such as the Pride Parade participants or the “LGTBTQ2SI Community,” but only of individuals.  “The civil law, generally speaking, is concerned with the civil rights of individuals,” he  wrote  in his March 20 judgment. “The doctrinal pr...

Which Is More Important: Gay Sexual Autonomy or the First Amendment?

Which Is More Important: Sexual Autonomy or the First Amendment ? Recently, an American professor who was  anonymously interviewed for the American Conservative  questioned whether sexual autonomy is going to cost you your freedoms: “We are now at the point, he said, at which it is legitimate to ask if sexual autonomy is more important than the First Amendment?” Under the  Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms , Canadian citizens were supposed to have been guaranteed: (1) freedom of conscience and religion; (2) freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; (3) freedom of peaceful assembly ; and (4) freedom of association. In reality, all of these freedoms have been curtailed with the legalization of same-sex marriage. Wedding planners, rental halls, bed and breakfast owners, florists, photographers, and bakers have already seen their freedoms eroded, conscience rights ignored, and religiou...

Immoral Homosexual Marriage the new endorsement to participation in public life.

Image
Canadians can take pride in a number of national achievements, not all of which occur on ice rinks. But protecting the fundamental freedoms of expression and religion isn’t chief among them. Enter same-sex marriage. Introduced by the Canadian courts a decade ago, same-sex marriage has become, for many, a cherished symbol of tolerance, inclusion, and acceptance. So much so that many have a difficult time seeing any reason to tolerate continued dissent. According to this line of thinking, the wellbeing of gays and lesbians can only be secured in a milieu that now forbids even raising the question of whether there might be some drawbacks for a society that has abandoned the conjugal conception of marriage. So what is to be done about religious communities that simply cannot give up on the idea that communities are best served by a conception of marriage characterized by a lifelong, exclusive commitment between one man and one woman? What are the terms for their continued participation in...

Will Canada ban Bible under the Hate Speech legislation?

Image
The Story:  On Wednesday, Canada 's Supreme Court  upheld a ban on "hate speech" contested by a Christian activist, ruling that the country's hate speech ban "is a reasonable limit on freedom of religion and is demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." The Background:  William Whatcott, a former homosexual turned Christian activist, published and distributed flyers in 2001 and 2002 which which contained various harsh statements about homosexuals and pedophiles. A complaint was filed with Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission alleging Whatcott was promoting hatred against individuals based on their sexual orientation . The  Human Rights Tribunal held  the publications contravened a section of the  Saskatchewan Human Rights Code  on the basis that Whatcott's views exposed persons to hatred and ridicule on the basis of their sexual orientation. Whatcott argued that he was entitled to make the statements based on his constit...

Court tries to silence Christian response to Homosexuality

Image
WEYBURN, Saskatchewan , March 1, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – After this week’s Supreme Court ruling finding him  guilty of “hate speech,”   Canada ’s most controversial Christian activist says he will continue publicly witnessing against homosexuality. Bill Whatcott plans to hand out flyers March 6 warning of the dangers of the homosexual lifestyle.  “I do believe God wants me to [do it],” he told LifeSiteNews.com. Though his message has won widespread scorn, even among many faithful Christians concerned about his strident language and tone, Whatcott insists that his message is not motived by hate but by Christian love . Before giving his life to Christ, Whatcott had used homosexual sex to pay for his drug habit. The activist knows handing out the flyers next week could result in legal action and that this time there is no higher court in the land to which he could appeal. But he says he is accountable to a higher judge and that he is not the first Chris...

Supreme Court of Canada rules you don’t have to tell your sex partner if you have HIV

Image
OTTAWA, October 8, 2012,  (LifeSiteNews.com)  - In a landmark decision last Friday, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that people who are HIV -positive do not need to tell their sex partners they have the disease, as long as they have low levels of the virus and use a condom during sexual intercourse . The 9-0 ruling says that the “realistic possibility of transmission of HIV is negated” if the infected person has a “low viral load and uses a condom”, superseding a 1998 decision. Under the previous law, HIV-positive people who did not tell partners they had the virus could be charged with aggravated sexual assault , with a maximum penalty is life in jail. According to a Canadian  Press report , Chief Justice Beverly McLachlin , well known for activism on Canadian social issues, questioned prosecutors whether a requirement to disclose the disease to sex partners places too onerous a burden on HIV-positive people in light of medical advances in treatment of the i...

‘Truth about homosexuality’ pamphleteer sues CBC over ‘kill the homosexual’ flyer

Image
WEYBURN, Saskatchewan July 3, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A pamphleteer who is seeking to expose what he says is the truth about homosexuality has launched a libel suit against the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ( CBC ). Bill Whatcott claims the national broadcaster misrepresented him in an October news report about the Supreme Court hearings into his battle with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission. The statement of claim filed on June 22 by Mr. Whatcott’s lawyer, Tom Schuck, states that in the news segment the CBC showed a pamphlet that had nothing to do with the case which was before the Supreme Court, but contained the words “Kill the Homosexual ,” thereby suggesting that Whatcott advocated murder of homosexual people. “The flyer with the words ‘Kill the homosexual’ was not one of the three flyers in question in the Supreme Court of Canada ,” the statement of claim explains. Bill Whatcott Instead, it was a flyer that Whatcott had handed out two years previo...
