Can Homosexuals change or born gay?

Image
Cannot change what—behavior or orientation? Many homosexuals have changed not only their behavior but also their orientation (desires).  Thousands of ex-homosexuals testify of their change, and renowned Columbia University psychiatrist, Dr. Robert Spitzer, documented some of those changes. His 2003 study shows that some highly motivated individuals can change their orientation from homosexual to heterosexual through reorientation therapy . 67  This is significant because Spitzer is no propagandist for the religious right. Quite the contrary—a self-described “ Jewish atheist ,” Spitzer was considered a hero by gay activists for getting homosexuality declassified as a mental disorder back in 1973.  Homosexual activists don’t like his new study though. In an interview, Dr. Spitzer said that his study “has been criticized severely by many people, particularly gay activists, who apparently feel quite threatened by it. They have the feeling that in order to get their civil ...

Democrat admits, ‘Attack on parental rights’ is ‘the whole point’ of banning sex orientation therapy

Image
SACRAMENTO, CA , August 2, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The author of a California bill that would forbid minors from seeking therapy to overcome unwanted feelings of same-sex attraction has admitted his intention was to undermine parental rights . State Senator Ted Lieu wants to undercut parental rights. “The attack on parental rights is exactly the whole point of the bill, because we don’t want to let parents harm their children,” said State Senator Ted Lieu, D-Torrance. Senate Bill 1172 would ban anyone under 18 from receiving reparative or sexual orientation conversion therapy , even if requested by the teens or their parents. The bill would label the treatment “unprofessional conduct” and “therapeutic deception.”   The bill  passed the state Senate  in June. It is now being considered in the state Assembly.  After likening the therapy to allowing children to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, the  43-year-old Taiwanese-born legislator ...

Former president of APA says organization controlled by ‘gay rights’ movement

Image
June 6, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A former president of the American Psychological Association (APA), who also introduced the motion to declassify homosexuality as a mental illness in 1975, says that the APA has been taken over by “ultraliberals” beholden to the “gay rights movement,” who refuse to allow an open debate on reparative therapy for homosexuality. Dr. Nicholas Cummings was President of the APA from 1979 to 1980, and also served as a member of the organization’s Council of Representatives . He served for years as Chief of Mental Health with the Kaiser-Permanente Health Maintenance Organization , and is the author of the book “Destructive Trends in Mental Health: The Well-Intentioned Path to Harm.” In an interview with representatives of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) in late April, Cummings said that the organization’s problems began with the rejection of the Leona Tyler Principle, which required that all public p...

Spitzer’s ‘retraction’ of his sexual orientation change study: what does it really mean?

Image
May 31, 2012 (NARTH.com) - A great deal of attention is currently being given to  the recent “retraction”  by Robert Spitzer , M.D., of his important study of sexual-orientation change (Spitzer, 2003a). The quotation marks around “retraction” are purposeful, for what has happened should not be characterized as a retraction. While this turn of events has now become a favorite talking point for those opposed to sexual orientation-change efforts ( SOCE ), the language of retraction reflects politically motivated speech rather than scientific analysis. What follows is intended to help those confused by Spitzer’s actions and the subsequent media feeding frenzy to understand what has really occurred. I have outlined below some key points that seem to have been lost in the partisan utilization of this turn of events. 1. Spitzer has not retracted his study. The proper term for what Spitzer has done is provided in the title to his recent letter of apology: He has reassessed his ...

‘Reprehensible and disgusting’: Censoring the ex-homosexual message

Image via Wikipedia Image via Wikipedia Montgomery County Courthouse IMG_3344 (Photo credit: OZinOH ) March 5, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Joshua Starr called it “reprehensible,” “deplorable” and “disgusting.” What could trigger such a response? Child sexual abuse by a teacher? Drug dealing in the high schools? A drunk driving accident that killed students? No - it was a one-page flier distributed to students in several Montgomery County, Md. , high schools as part of the “backpack flier” program that helps nonprofit organizations reach students in the schools. The flier included “disgusting” declarations such as, “All individuals deserve the right to self-determination and happiness,” and such “reprehensible” advice as “[I]mportant decisions should not be made on feelings alone.” The controversy arose not because of its relatively innocuous content, but because of its source: an organization called Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays...

The Gay Myth: Born this way can't change

Image via Wikipedia by Dale O'Leary Refuting the Distortions of the GLBTQ Activists Distortion #2:  Persons with SSA can’t change In 2003 Dr. Robert Spitzer , who had thirty years before been instrumental in the decision of the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from the  Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the APA,  published a study of 200 men and women who had undergone therapy for SSA and reported change in their pattern of sexual attraction. At the time a major initiative had been launched by pro-SSA mental health professionals to ban therapy directed to changing SSA. Spitzer conducted phone interviews with 200 persons who had been in treatment for SSA. He concluded that although not all successfully became functioning heterosexuals, some did and the rest felt the therapy had benefited them. [1]  The study was not designed to discover the percentage of those in therapy who experience a real change, only if anyone in therapy experience...
