Christian organizations’ ‘Yardstick’ evaluates anti-bullying policies for pro-LGBT bias

Image
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona , August 31, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Two leading U.S. Christian advocacy groups have joined forces to create a guideline to assure school anti-bullying policies protect all students from bullying and are not being used simply to advance the homosexual agenda . Alliance Defending Freedom ( ADF ), in a joint effort with Focus on the Family , has announced the “Anti-Bullying Policy Yardstick,”  which allows public schools and the general public to evaluate thelegal aspects of a school’s anti-bullying rules. “All students deserve to be protected from bullying, not just ones favored by certain political activist groups,” said Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “And all schools need help to ensure that their policies comport with their students’ First Amendment freedoms and other legal protections. This tool is designed to provide that help.” The Yardstick outlines the good and bad approaches to the top 10 most common components o...

Courts force church to allow lesbian marriage

Image via Wikipedia OCEAN GROVE, New Jersey , January 13, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A New Jersey judge ruled against a Christian retreat house that refused to allow a same-sex civil union ceremony to be conducted on its premises, ruling the Constitution allows “some intrusion into religious freedom to balance other important societal goals.” The Boardwalk Pavilion that the lesbian couple wanted to use for their ceremony On Thursday, administrative judge  Solomon A. Metzger ruled  that religious liberty did not exempt the seaside retreat, which is associated with the United Methodist Church , from renting its facilities out for purposes that violate its moral beliefs. In March 2007, Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association   declined  Harriet Bernstein and Luisa Paster’s request to rent its Boardwalk Pavilion for the ceremony. The couple sued, claiming they had been discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation. In December 2008, the state Division...

Inter-American Commission Criticized for “Insidious” Push for Sexual Orientation

Image
Image via Wikipedia WASHINGTON, DC , November 18 ( C-FAM )- Legal and human rights experts are criticizing the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (Commission) for “overstepping” its authority and advancing a dangerous trend that harms the cause of human rights. The criticism follows the Commissions decision to “strengthen its capacity” to promote sexual orientation by creating a “Unit on the Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex ( LGBTI ) Persons.” The Commission, a branch of the Organization of American States (OAS), called the new Unit “part of the comprehensive approach the IACHR has adopted.” A close observer to the Organization of American States and its various bodies called this development part of an “insidious” trend. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, he told the Friday Fax that the “overall trend in human rights to single out particular groups for special attention at the expense of other rights and groups” poses a “threat to the overall integ...

Never, never, never give up: the defense of marriage today

Image
Image via Wikipedia Is it time for the “marriage battleground” to shift to religious freedom ? That’s the question posed by a recent Christianity Today article in the wake of New York ’s approval of same-sex “marriage.”  According to University of Virginia law professor Douglas Laycock , the answer is “Yes.”  He says, “Religious conservatives who advocate traditional marriage must shift their focus to fighting for religious freedom.” That’s because Laycock and, sadly, many others mistakenly believe in the inevitability of same-sex “marriage.” They think that the best Christians can do now is make sure gay “marriage” laws at least provide a modicum of protection for the freedoms of those of us who believe in traditional marriage. Yes, same-sex “marriage,” so-called, poses a grave threat to religious freedom. There have already been cases where photographers and others have been sued for refusing to participate in same-sex “wedding” ceremonies.  Catholic Charities ...

Public Opinion on Same-Sex Marriage: It's All in How You Ask

Image
The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) recently released results from a poll suggesting that a majority of Americans believe in traditional marriage .  The poll  found 62 percent of Americans believe that “marriage should be defined  only as a union between one man and one woman.” The poll results seem to run counter to other recent polls showing a majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, but like all polling, the results depend on how the question is asked. What makes the ADF poll unique is that it is the first to ask a question that borrows the same language often used in ballot initiatives. One explanation given for this difference has been to  question the poll's sponsorship .  The ADF’s lawyers are the key defenders of Proposition 8 , which effectively bars same-sex marriage in California . The poll was conducted by Polling Opinion Strategies, a research firm often works  with Republican candidates. The sponsorship may explain why the poll was ...

Judge rules Wisconsin gay domestic partnership law legal, not similar to marriage

Image
Image via Wikipedia A circuit court judge has ruled that Wisconsin ’s domestic partner registry law does not violate a voter-approved constitutional amendment banning same-sex “marriage” or a marriage-like legal status for homosexual couples. “ The state does not recognize domestic partnership in a way that mirrors how the state recognizes marriage,” Dane County Judge Daniel Moeser wrote in a ruling released Monday. The constitutional amendment, which was approved by 59 percent of Wisconsin voters in 2006, states, “Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state.  A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state.” Pro- traditional marriage advocates argue that the domestic partnership law passed by a Democrat-controlled legislature in 2009 sets up an institution for homosexuals that parrots marriage. However, the judge disag...

Military chaplain agencies demand conscience protections as ‘don’t ask’ repeal looms

Image
Image via Wikipedia Twenty-one religious agencies that provide chaplains to the U.S. military sent  a joint letter  to the military’s chiefs of chaplains Monday voicing strong concern over the need for religious liberty protections if the military lifts its “don’t ask don’t tell” policy that forbids open homosexuality in the military. The  letter  asks the chiefs for their help in urging Congress and the Department of Defense to adopt such protections. Alliance Defence Fund ( ADF ) attorneys helped draft proposed religious liberty protections for the Pentagon’s working group on the matter, but the law designed to dismantle the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ( DADT ) policy still lacks any such protections.   “ Service members should not be denied the very constitutional liberties they volunteered to defend,” said ADF Legal Counsel Daniel Blomberg. “If this government truly cares about protecting religious liberties as it says it does, why has it been afraid...
