Homosexuality and the Bible — The Rejectionist Approach

Instead, it “has less to do with sex than with perceived threats to the authority of Scripture and the teaching authority of the church.” In reality the crisis is about both sex and biblical authority , as Johnson himself makes clear. Johnson serves as Robert R. Woodruff Professor of New Testament at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University . He is one of the most influential Roman Catholic scholars in the field of biblical studies. In “ Scripture & Experience ,” published in Commonweal magazine, Professor Johnson presents what can only be described as a rejectionist approach to the Bible ’s teachings on homosexuality.
