Toronto’s Catholic schools bow to the Rainbow Mafia

Image
The Toronto Catholic District School Board, after a long and heated debate, voted to adopt four gender terms into its code of conduct: "gender identity," "gender expression," "family status," and "marital status".  The chairman of the board, who supported the 8 to 4 vote, stated that "we need to celebrate our differences and make sure our children from the LGBTQ community and families from the LGBTQ community are supported and welcomed".  This view, however, is contrary to that of the archdiocese, which responded: "We do not accept the view of the human person which underlies this terminology since that view is not compatible with our faith." This is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. Students at Catholic schools are equally protected by law and school policy from unjust discrimination, ridicule, and assault and battery. Since everyone is equally protected, there is no need to give special attention to any s...

Canada’s largest newspaper: Catholic schools must back LGBT ‘rights’ or risk losing public funding

Image
Canada’s largest newspaper threatened Catholic schools in an editorial that unless they get in line with homosexuality and transgender “rights,” support will only grow for an end to their public funding. The Toronto Star’s Monday editorial also excoriated beleaguered Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) trustee Mike Del Grande and called for the board to censure him.  Del Grande — along with Teresa Lubinski, Garry Tanuan and Nancy Crawford — voted November 7 after months of bitter debate not to add “gender identity, gender expression, family status and marital status” to the TCDSB’s code of conduct as prohibited grounds for discrimination. The many delegates and opponents of the policy change argued that adding the terms endorses spurious gender ideology in Catholic schools in contravention of Catholic teaching, leading to great harm to students. But eight trustees led by chair Maria Rizzo voted to include the terms, arguing that the board had to follow a minis...

Toronto Catholic teacher: Joining gay club is ‘embodiment of a perfectly-formed Catholic conscience’

Image
A teacher in Toronto’s Catholic school board shocked parents and ratepayers last week when she declared that joining a gay-straight alliance is a “perfect outcome” for Catholic students. Teresa Kelly, a technology teacher at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School , gave a five-minute speech Thursday at a Toronto Catholic District School Board meeting that dealt with trustee Garry Tanuan’s motion to ban GSAs. Catholic teacher Teresa Kelly as she appears in her profile picture on social media. According to the teacher, being part of a GSA is “the embodiment of a perfectly-formed Catholic conscience.” As long as you ignore Biblical scripture, and sever your conscious and allow your conscious to be informed not by God's word but by the LGBT agenda.  “As a Catholic teacher, I feel that [ Thomas Merton ’s GSA] provides a beautiful place that is safe, that is inclusive, and that protects vulnerable children,” said Kelly, who’s been in the board for over 20 ...

‘You’ve lost the battle’: Gay activist Catholic teacher taunts parental rights supporters

TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - One of the Ontario government’s lead trainers and advisors on its controversial equity and inclusive education strategy says attempts by parents to withdraw their children from objectionable classes on sexuality is an “attack” on inclusivity in the schools. The comment was made to the Toronto Star Monday by Chris D’Souza, the chair of the Equity Summit Group, a former teacher in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board , and an equity trainer who has led sessions in over a dozen Catholic school boards across Ontario. Chris D'Souza This LifeSiteNews reporter questioned D’Souza about the comment Tuesday, asking also his view on policies adopted by the Toronto District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board that forbid parents from withdrawing children from classes dealing with homosexuality. In reply, he said simply: “Here is your quote Patrick: You are all clutching at straws and have l...

Abolish heterosexism: pro-homosexual activists knocking at door of Ontario’s Catholic schools again

Image
As the homosexual agenda continues to infiltrate the Catholic educational system in Ontario under the guise of anti-bullying programs, a newer and potentially more sinister homosexual program has already come knocking at the schools’ doors this fall. Chris D’Souza, one of the draftees of McGuinty ’s Equity strategy, explains his support for homosexual “marriage" during an April 18 Catholic school board meeting on the board’s equity policy. LifeSiteNews.com has obtained a copy of a letter signed by Chris D’Souza, director of Harmony Movement, which was apparently sent to all of Ontario’s Catholic school trustees at the beginning of September. The letter promotes Harmony Movement’s brand of “diversity education” that aims to equip students and teachers in the “fight” against “heterosexism.” The Harmony Movement program, he said, is a tool for promoting “equity and inclusive education,” “student leadership,” and “youth empowerment.” “Your support in passing on this program informa...

Evangelicals disappointed Toronto Catholic trustees didn’t stand up for faith

Image
Evangelical leaders have expressed dismay after trustees at the Toronto Catholic District School Board rejected amendments to their equity policy designed to ensure faithfulness to Catholic teaching on homosexuality. Faye Sonier In a Tuesday  blog post  Faye Sonier, legal counsel for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada , said the board’s equity policy, which comes as part of the Ontario government ’s mandatory equity and inclusive education strategy, is part of a widespread effort to promote a “new diversity” that can only operate by excluding contrary beliefs. The policy had sparked an unprecedented mobilization of parents over fears that it will give homosexual activists a foothold in order to further subvert already weak Catholic sexual teaching in the schools. The Toronto situation, she said, is “simply one of many cases across the country where the government or special interest groups, in aggressive pursuit of a troubling alteration to the concept of ‘diversity’, atte...

Image via Wikipedia The superintendent in charge of “equity and inclusion” at the Toronto Catholic school board , who has come under fire from Catholic parents and ratepayers after appearing to ridicule Catholic teaching on homosexuality, says his comments were “taken out of context.” The school board did not respond to a direct question about whether superintendent Keyes agrees with the Church’s teaching that homosexual acts are gravely depraved and the homosexual inclination is “objectively disordered,” as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church . In an interview with Xtra, Canada ’s top gay magazine, on June 22, Patrick Keyes appeared to ridicule an amendment that would have required the Catechism of the Catholic Church to be referenced whenever homosexuality is discussed.   “[The amendment] stated that every time a teacher spoke about homosexuality they had to also say to students, ‘By the way, you’re intrinsically disordered,’” he said. “For some people, [h...

Catholic student trustee invokes bishops to defend ‘giftedness of sexual orientation’

Image
At the June 16 Toronto Catholic school board (TDCSB) meeting on their controversial “equity” policy, the board’s student trustee invoked the authority of Ontario ’s bishops to urge the Catholic schools to implement “anti-homophobia” classes for elementary and high schools that recognize the “giftedness of sexual orientation ” ( see video ) as compared to all homsexual activity is immoral. Giftedness vs Immoral! Two other presenters at the meeting similarly invoked the bishops in opposition to parents’ demands for more explicit protections for authentic Catholic teaching . TDCSB student trustee Natalie Rizzo In her address, student trustee Natalie Rizzo backed the homosexual “anti-bullying” clubs to which many parents were objecting.   “Our schools should be able to allow and provide student and/or teacher-generated support, again in line with the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario, lending itself to the inclusion of students in Catholic schools who are gay, lesbia...
