Chick-fil-A CEO: I still oppose gay ‘marriage’ but won’t be too vocal about it

Image
ATLANTA, GA , March 20, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – After two years of battering by homosexual activists and the mainstream media over his opposition to same-sex “marriage,” Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy says he remains committed to the Christian definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman, but has decided not to be vocal about it. “I think the time of truths and principles are captured and codified in God’s word and I’m just personally committed to that,” Cathy told the  Atlanta Journal-Constitution . “I know others feel very different from that and I respect their opinion and I hope that they would be respectful of mine.” Cathy, 61, set off a firestorm of controversy in 2012 with remarks to a Baptist publication in which he said he was “guilty as charged” for supporting the traditional family. “We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit,” Cathy  told  the  Baptist Press . “We are a family-own...

Traditional values pay: Chick-fil-A makes record-breaking profits after marriage controversy

Image
ATLANTA,  – Chick-fil-A has learned upholding traditional values is not just good for the soul; it’s also good for business. Since President Dan Cathy stirred up a firestorm of controversy and protests by daring to say in public that he supports traditional marriage, the fast food chain has enjoyed record sales and increased brand recognition . A typical line on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, August 1. According to a report by  USA Today , consumer use, visits, and ad awareness all rose measurably in the third quarter, despite widespread negative media coverage of Cathy’s remarks to the  Baptist Press  opposing same-sex “marriage.” A Sandelman and Associates survey of more than 30,000 fast-food shoppers in markets where Chick-fil-A operates showed consumer use of the restaurant chain rose 2.2 percent in the third quarter compared with the same period in 2011. Their market share rose 0.6 percent. Awareness of their advertising rose 6.5 percent. Je...

Young people whose parents had same-sex relationships fared worse in key aspects of life

Logo for the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) WASHINGTON, D.C. , October 11, 2012, ( The Heritage Foundation )—As summer faded to fall, a Chicago alderman’s fury toward Chick-fil-A finally seemed to be cooling. But fall is fickle in the windy city, and Proco Joe Moreno once again is threatening to stall the chicken chain from opening in his ward. Moreno, Mayor Rahm (“Chicago Values”) Emanuel and other big-city officials piled on Chick-fil-A after Dan Cathy, the company’s president and COO , publicly supported the biblical definition of marriage. As they were soon reminded, though,  for a public official to deny a business license because of the businessman’s marriage views would amount to unlawful discrimination  against his viewpoints. Sadly, controversies such as the one that Moreno’s overblown comments helped create grow more frequent, and Chick-fil-A is only the most visible target. Advocates for “tolerance” increasingly push traditional ideas...

Keep the Republic and marriage!

Image
Benjamin Franklin 1767 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Sean Fieler is a good man. An investor and philanthropist, he supports dozens of good causes, including NOM's work to protect marriage. But he knows his support for NOM and for marriage could make him a target for gay activists, just like we saw happen recently to Dan Cathy, the owner of Chick-fil-A. Sean could have kept his support for marriage private. Instead, drawing inspiration from Dan Cathy, Sean decided to become one of the first signers at KeepTheRepublicAndMarriage.com and "out" himself as a public supporter of marriage. Sean said no more to intimidation of good Americans. He refuses to be silenced or intimidated:  Gay marriage activists are successfully using fear and intimidation to silence the majority of Americans who want to preserve marriage as God created it, the union of one man and one woman. To stop this cycle fear and intimidation, we need courageous Americans to step forward and make public t...

Pro-gay Chicago alderman claims Chick-fil-a has agreed to stop ‘anti-gay’ donations

Image
CHICAGO, September 19, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Chicago alderman and homosexual activist who in July went public with his efforts to block Chick-fil-A from opening a franchise because its president, Dan Cathy, supports traditional marriage, is claiming to have gotten his wish.  Alderman Joe Moreno According to  a statement  from Civil Right Agenda, a homosexual rights group, Moreno has confirmed that Chick-fil-A will no longer give money to “anti- gay organizations ” through its charitable foundation, WinShape, and has agreed to clarify “in an internal document that the company will treat every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation.” Moreno says he will no longer oppose Chick-fil-a’s efforts to open a location in Logan Square. However, it is unclear how much has really changed. The statement of respect touted by The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) as a new development was first issued back in July in response to the controversy over Cathy’s pro-ma...

No more male or female?

Image
, American religious figure. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Hakuna Matata , “don’t worry”: same-sex marriage will not harm ordinary marriage. But way back in 1970, the Gay Revolution Party Manifesto declared: “The gay revolution will produce a world in which all social and sensual relationships will be gay and in which homo- and heterosexuality will be incomprehensible terms.” In other words, the biblical terms for the sexual binary (male/female) will have become “incomprehensible.” Impossible, you may say, but forty-two years later: a gender-neutral pronoun has been proposed for use in Sweden’s public schools; “M” and “F” are disappearing from birth certificates and passport applications in Western countries , and; “parent A” and “parent B” are replacing mother and father. While some Christians downplay the discussion of sexuality in order to survive more comfortably in today’s context, pagans, on the contrary, see its immense importance. In the twentieth century, Carl...

‘Bigotry’ and the abuse of language

Image
August 24, 2012 ( HLIAmerica.org ) - I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, so my first understanding of bigotry was that it referred to a very large tree (“Hey, dat’s a big-a tree!”). Now, many years later, I know that it really means supporting traditional marriage. Like President Obama, I have “evolved.” I have advanced on the semantic spectrum from being ethnicized to being politicized. Who needs Noah Webster? William A. Jacobson is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Cornell University Law School . The sesquipedalian title of the statement he posted on July 29, 2012 encapsulates its essence: “Most important legacy of Obama’s gay marriage switch was freeing Dems to play the ‘bigot card’.” Now, according to Jacobson, Democrats are free to accuse anyone and everyone who supports the traditional understanding of marriage as bigoted. Those who thus stand accused would be nearly everyone in history together with the vast majority of the living. Albert Schweitzer, Martin Luther ...

‘Hero’ FRC security guard released from hospital: alleged shooter pleads ‘not guilty’

Image
WASHINGTON, D.C. , August 24, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The man who has been extolled as a “hero” after putting a stop to what could have been a much worse tragedy last week at the Family Research Council , has just been released from hospital. Leo Johnson was shot in the arm on August 15, after confronting a gunman who allegedly walked into FRC’s building, expressed disagreement with the organization’s politics, and opened fire. Despite being shot, Leo was able to subdue the shooter and call for help. “I am thankfully now out of the hospital,” Johnson said in a statement on Friday, adding that while his condition “continues to improve,” he will likely need another surgery. “I want to thank everyone for the support and prayers during my recovery,” Johnson wrote. “I thank the media for their interest but ask for their understanding of my family’s desire for privacy as I focus on getting better.” The alleged gunman, Virginia resident Floyd Lee Corkins II, appeared i...
