St. Petersburg court rules Russian gay advocacy group is a ‘foreign agent’

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Citing the Russian laws against homosexual propaganda, and rules governing NGOs that receive foreign funding, a St. Petersburg court has ruled that the Russian LGBT advocacy group called Vykhod (Coming Out) must register itself as a "foreign agent." The group is a member of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) located in Geneva, Switzerland , and is linked with the LGBT Network based in Scotland . According to Vykhod's Facebook page , Judge Naidyonova of the Vasileostrovsky District Court of St. Petersburg ruled the group is a foreign agent because it is “engaged in political activities on behalf of foreign countries,” and is in violation of the laws against homosexual propaganda because its activities and publications discriminate against “persons with traditional sexual orientation.” Legislation passed...

Vladimir Putin signs bill protecting children from homosexual propaganda

Russian Prime Minster Vladimir Putin yesterday  signed the bill  to outlaw the promotion of homosexuality, “same-sex marriage,” and Gay Pride parades throughout the Russian Federation . The national law reinforces and expands previous regional legislation in St. Petersburg . The law outlaws distributing of information on “non-traditional sexual concepts” to children, describing such actions as attractive, promoting a “distorted understanding of social equality of traditional and non-traditional relations” and being involved in the “unwanted solicitation of information that could provoke interest in such relations.” Those Russians giving children propaganda about homosexuality could be fined up to 5,000 rubles ($152 U.S.). Foreigners could be fined the same amount, held in jail for 15 days and deported. Moscow court upholds ban on ‘gay pride’ marches for next hundred years

June 12, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Moscow’s City Court has confirmed a lower court decision permitting the denial of a request for permits for “gay pride” marches for the next hundred years, according to Russian and international media sources. The decision came as a result of a legal tactic by Russian homosexual activists , who asked for a century’s worth of permits using a loophole in the law that places no time limit on such requests. Activists say they were seeking to provoke a denial of all the permits so that they could file a complaint of “discrimination” in the European Court of Human Rights . They asked for permits from March 2012 through May 2112, amounting to a total of 102. Moscow authorities did not issue a decision, but simply sent a letter to the activists outlining the proper procedure for making such requests. Calling the event “ Gay Pride 2012,” despite the ban, protesters held rainbow flags and signs, and made declarations to the media. At least one wore a Wicca symbol on her neck. According to video posted on YouTube by march supporters, Orthodox activists disrupted the event by snatching the signs from the protesters, and even splashing holy water on them.  Some scuffled with demonstrators and took swings at them, although there were no reports of injuries. St. Petersburg legislators pass law prohibiting promotion of homosexuality among minors including gay pride marches

Twenty-nine out of the assembly’s 50 members voted in favor of the measure, which will now be sent to the city’s governor for his signature. The Moscow Times reports that other Russian cities are considering similar bills. St. Petersburg governor George Poltavechenko told reporters today that he had not yet seen the bill, but “if it conforms to applicable federal law, then anything is possible.” If passed, the bill will subject individuals who violate the law to a fine of up to 5,000 rubles ($172), and organizations to a fine of up to 500,000 rubles ($17,200). The bill, which prohibits “public activities promoting homosexuality,” is being denounced by homosexualist activist groups as “anti-gay” and it is being vocally opposed by the U.S. State Department . The bill proposes to outlaw the dissemination of information “which could cause damage to the health or moral and spiritual development of minors, including by inducing them to form warped perceptions that traditional and non-traditional married relations are equally socially acceptable.” If passed it would impose fines on individuals or groups promoting homosexuality, pedophilia, or “transgenderism” to minors.
