Pastor Arressted - Drag Queen reading at Public Library

Image
A judge has dismissed charges against a Christian pastor in Washington who was arrested after trying to enter a public library in which a Drag Queen Story Hour event was taking place, though local prosecutors plan to try again against Afshin Yaghtin. Yaghtin, who preaches at Spokane’s New Covenant Church, attempted to enter South Hill Public Library on June 15 to pray for the children attending a Drag Queen Story Hour event that day. 500 Mom Strong founder Anna Bohach witnessed police intercept and arrest him. The Washington Times reported that Yaghtin was specifically arrested for refusing to move to a designated protest zone, which he objected was farther away from the library than where pro-LGBT protesters were allowed to gather. “He did not carry signs or preach, and he did not consider himself a protestor,” said the Pacific Justice Institute, which defended the pastor. “The police nevertheless ordered Yaghtin to leave the premises — otherwise open to the public — and go across ...

Church married LGBTQI people - Church now empty

Image
Two years ago TIME magazine highlighted an evangelical “megachurch” whose pastor had led the congregation to affirm gay marriage and to welcome LGBT persons as full members of the church (see the sermon announcement above from two years ago). The story made quite a splash at the time, even though many pointed out that the church wasn’t really a megachurch and could hardly be seen as a bellwether of things to come. Yesterday, the website “Juicy Ecumenism” reported that the church has cratered over the last two years. From the report : A once-large Nashville -area Evangelical congregation that made headlines after its pastor announced that the church would conduct same-sex marriages is selling its campus and relocating to rented space. After his announcement of LGBT support in 2015, Pastor Stan Mitchell of GracePointe Church in Franklin, Tennessee was profiled in Time magazine. But what was a much sought-after sign of Evangelical movement towards LGBT affirmation may have been w...

Mennonite pastor who helped child flee lesbian ‘mother’ to go to prison

Image
Kenneth Miller , a Mennonite pastor who helped a woman and her daughter flee the country in 2009 to avoid court-ordered visitations with the girl's lesbian "mother," has   ended his appeal   against a 27-month federal prison sentence and will be required to begin his term on March 1. Lisa Miller and her daughter Isabella are believed to have flown from Canada to Nicaragua in late 2009 after Kenneth Miller drove them to the Canadian border . Kenneth Miller was convicted of "aiding an international kidnapping" in 2012 but was allowed to remain free while he appealed the sentence. " God allows hardships and trials to make us into the image of His Son. THAT'S GOOD. So if this time in prison makes this poor sinner a little more like Jesus, it will be good and I will be happy,"   wrote   Kenneth Miller in response to his impending imprisonment. "We are not discouraged or depressed about the future, because God is in the future and we...

The wreckage of the Sexual Revolution, laid bare in one website hack

Image
Ed Stetzer (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A group calling itself the “Impact Team” announced it would release the names of people who used the Ashley Madison website if its owners didn’t shut the website down. If you hadn’t heard of Ashely Madison back then, chances are you now know more than you care to about the site, which brings together people who seek to have extramarital affairs. Its motto tells you all you need to know: “Life is short. Have an affair.” The site’s ownership didn’t comply with the demand, and in mid-August, the “Impact Team” released more than 25 gigabytes of data. As soon as the data was released, people combed through it looking for potential targets for humiliation, or even worse, extortion. But this isn’t just a problem that’s “out there” in the world. Ed Stetzer of Lifeway Research estimates that “at least 400 church leaders ( pastors , elders, staff, deacons, etc.)” would be exposed in the Ashely Madison affair. (Pun intended.) In one post, Ste...

Confused Evangelicals for Marriage Equality - UnBiblical

Image
Rainbow flag. Symbol of gay pride. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) On the weekend of January 10–11, 2015, about 1,500 people gathered in Portland, Oregon , for the annual gathering of “ LGBTQ 1 Christians” organized by the Gay Christian Network . Brandan Robertson was there and reported on the conference. 2 I would like to comment on his report. Robertson is (in his words) the “national spokesperson” for the organization “Evangelicals for Marriage Equality ” (EME). He states that EME exists, to help change hearts and minds of evangelical Christians on the issue of same-sex civil marriage. . . . We make the case that you can be a faithful Bible-believing evangelical while supporting the right of same-sex couples to be civilly married in the United States and that whatever your theology might be, it shouldn’t dictate what you should believe politically and socially about this. 3 He also tells us in the MSNBC clip that “The latest poll shows that 43% of millennial evangelicals now su...

Chaplains group investigating claims Army threatened chaplain over Facebook post on homosexuality

Image
A group advocating freedom of religion in the military is investigating claims that a young Army chaplain ’s assistant has been reprimanded by her commanding officer and threatened with rank and pay reductions for expressing religious opposition to homosexuality on her personal Facebook page. The anonymous 26-year-old, who has served in the armed forces for six years, told Fox News personality Todd Starnes that she posted her thoughts to the social media site after viewing an online video featuring a pastor who denied that homosexuality is a sin. Members of the servicewoman’s unit reported her to commanding officer, who called her in and, she says, gave her a choice: Take the message down, or get busted down in rank and pay. She has refused to take the comment down, and is prepared to take legal action if necessary. “We fight for the freedom that I can’t enjoy right now,” she said. “That’s not right.” Ron Crews, the executive director of the  Chaplain All...

ELCA Pastor With Interesting View on Scripture and celebrating Homosexuality

Image
Is all of scripture God's Word or not? ELCA pastor Gary Eichhorn of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Oakwood, OH made an interesting statement in a recent news article. The article says this, "Gay Christians refer to the four to seven passages most often cited to attack homosexuality as 'the clobber passages.'  (Rev.) Eichhorn of Oakwood said none of them are from the gospels and none are quotations attributed to Jesus . 'I’d rather talk about the things Jesus talked about rather than the things he never talked about,' Eichhorn said."( read here ) So only the things Jesus said are important enough to warrant our thoughts, comments and preaching Rev. Eichhorn? Didn't God inspire all of scripture? If God inspired the writings of Peter (and all the writings of scripture), that means Peter wrote what God wanted him to write. What Peter (and all the Biblical authors) wrote is just as important as what Jesus said, because they all come from...

Bahamas Baptist bishop: Strong, loving families 'last bastion against homosexual avalanche'

Image
NASSAU, February 28, 2013, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A Baptist bishop says the best way to avert the growing homosexual subculture in the Bahamas is to promote and encourage stable, natural families. Bishop Simeon Hall, the senior pastor of New Covenant Baptist Church in Nassau and former president of the Bahamas Christian Council, said that spousal abuse, incest, and rape in families have irreversible negative effects on children and weaken families, contributing to the growth of a lesbian and homosexual community in the Bahamas. Bishop Hall said he believes that, although some persons choose a lesbian or homosexual lifestyle, "some studies show that most practicing homosexuals come from dysfunctional families ." "We must, in imitation of Christ, reach out with love to those persons chained to this lifestyle," the answer to the "homosexual avalanche" lies in promoting faithful marriages of one man to one woman, strenthening and supporti...
