Gay marriage

Much has been said about this post,  including a good bit of heat toward me for putting on the front. There is much that could be said. I disagree with a lot of the theology. In particular, I disagree with this: Is Homosexuality a Sin ? I. Do. Not. Care. Luke 10 tells the story of a legal expert who queried Jesus about what was required to inherit eternal life. Christ turned the question back on its questioner, and this man whose entire life revolved around studying the law of God summed it up in two points: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’”And Christ informed him that he had it exactly right. That’s what is required to be a follower of Christ. I’m not called to hunt down sinful people, or question the faith of my friends and neighbors, or try to wield the power of the government to enforce my convictions on others.I’m called to love God, and love ...

Homosexuality is an offensive sin to God

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” ( Gen. 1:27 ). It is all too easy to come across as “holier-than-thou” when we condemn sexual sin  or politicans who claim to be Christians who promote sin like homosexuality.  Yet no person merits forgiveness ( Eph. 2:4–7 ), and we sin if we portray ourselves as guiltless, explicitly or implicitly, or think we are less deserving of wrath than others ( Luke 18:9–14 ).  As ambassadors of Christ , we are called to extend love and the hope of restoration to all people. His Great Commission does not send us to some transgressors and not others; we are to preach the Gospel to all people ( Matt. 28:18–20 ). Our Father can free those in bondage to homosexuality just as He frees other sinners. We must love those enslaved to homosexuality and seek their redemption. True love in this case involves calling homosexual behavior a sin. We may be ostracized when we do this...

Same Sex Attraction

Image
Image via Wikipedia WHAT EXACTLY IS  HOMOSEXUALITY ? Homosexuality is when relational, psychological, emotional, and spiritual issues lead a person to have a sexual and/or romantic attraction to people of the same gender.  Not all people who struggle with homosexuality would consider themselves gay (”gay” can be defined as an identification with a community of people that embraces intimate same-sex relationships).  There are many people who are attracted to members of the same gender who are refraining from acting on their feelings while they seek to change those feelings by addressing their root causes. WHAT ABOUT GOD? Some people, including those dealing with same sex attractions, are completely uninterested in God . Some are hungry for a relationship with Him. Some don’t want to change. Some do. And some don’t want to change their sexual orientation before they become a Christian but afterwards the Holy Spirit makes it an issue and they want to change.  You do...
