Has the intervention of Pope Francis returned the Synod to heterodox trajectory?

Image
The Ordinary Synod on the Family moved much closer yesterday to a repudiation of the teachings of the Catholic Church on human sexuality. The hopes of faithful Catholics were raised on Monday by the reassertions of Catholic orthodoxy made in the relazione introduttiva of the General Relator of the Synod, Peter Cardinal Erdo , Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest . Yesterday Erdo’s report and position were seriously undermined after an intervention of Pope Francis indicated to the synod fathers that the question of Holy Communion for the “divorced and remarried” was still open. Cardinal Erdo was also undermined by remarks made by synod fathers invited to a press conference organised by Holy See press spokesman Fr Lombardi S.J. Cardinal Erdo’s  relazione introduttiva In his opening report, delivered on Monday morning, Cardinal Erdo upheld Catholic doctrine across the whole spectrum of teachings pertaining to human sexuality. The General Relator decis...

Same-sex “marriage” advocate Gregory Baum lauded by Fr. Thomas Rosica

Image
Liberal Catholic press-people have recently touted a man some call Canada ’s leading dissenter since the 1960s - former Catholic priest Gregory Baum - because of his role as an expert, or peritus, to the Canadian bishops at Vatican II.  Baum, an advocate of homosexual ‘marriage’ and sex outside of marriage and contraception, was lauded by Fr. Thomas Rosica of Salt and Light TV, Michael Swan of the Catholic Register and also given free reign in the pages of the Scarboro Foreign Missions magazine. Had he merely publicly rejected Catholicism, Baum would not have been as grave a danger to the Church and especially its moral teachings. Despite the automatic excommunication he incurred for marrying an ex-nun while still a priest, Baum continued to speak lovingly of Jesus and the Gospels as he repudiated many of the principles of faith and morals revealed by Christ and in Sacred Scripture.  One of the tools of repudiation was the dissenting  Catholic New Times  n...

SPLC labels law firm representing Kim Davis a ‘hate group’

Image
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has labeled Liberty Counsel , the law firm representing and supporting Christian Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who famously went to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, a " hate group ." Pointing to evidence that Liberty Counsel supports Christian beliefs on homosexuality, SPLC placed the group on a list of "hate groups" alongside other organizations such the Ku Klux Klan , the ultra-violent New Black Panther Party , and neo-Nazi white supremacist groups. On a page explaining the "hate" designation, the SPLC include quotes by Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver pointing to the harmful effects of homosexual behavior, and saying that homosexual behavior is immoral. Direct mail marketing millionaire Morris Dees founded the SPLC as a civil rights organization to monitor the Ku Klux Klan and other violent and/or racist groups.  In recent years, however, the SPLC has dramatically ex...

New source confirms Obama plans to force federal grantees to hire LGBT people

Image
A second source has come forward to confirm earlier Friday Fax  reporting  that the Obama administration intends to force Catholic and other Christian groups to accept LGBT applicants in hiring. The source, who insists upon anonymity, described a meeting held for department and agency heads at the Old Executive Office Building next to the White House where they were informed of the change in policy. An official from the Obama administration told the group that they would be required to add “ sexual orientation and gender identity ” to hiring guidelines for grant recipients, just the same as the Administration mandated for Federal contractors a year ago. The source reported to the Friday Fax that any organization receiving the grant could not discriminate based on ‘sexual orientation and gender identity” in the hiring of an employee that worked on the program funded by the grant or in seeking subcontractors. Additionally, they could not discriminate based on ‘se...
