Can Homosexuals change or born gay?

Image
Cannot change what—behavior or orientation? Many homosexuals have changed not only their behavior but also their orientation (desires).  Thousands of ex-homosexuals testify of their change, and renowned Columbia University psychiatrist, Dr. Robert Spitzer, documented some of those changes. His 2003 study shows that some highly motivated individuals can change their orientation from homosexual to heterosexual through reorientation therapy . 67  This is significant because Spitzer is no propagandist for the religious right. Quite the contrary—a self-described “ Jewish atheist ,” Spitzer was considered a hero by gay activists for getting homosexuality declassified as a mental disorder back in 1973.  Homosexual activists don’t like his new study though. In an interview, Dr. Spitzer said that his study “has been criticized severely by many people, particularly gay activists, who apparently feel quite threatened by it. They have the feeling that in order to get their civil ...

Former president of APA says organization controlled by ‘gay rights’ movement

June 6, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A former president of the American Psychological Association (APA), who also introduced the motion to declassify homosexuality as a mental illness in 1975, says that the APA has been taken over by “ultraliberals” beholden to the “gay rights movement,” who refuse to allow an open debate on reparative therapy for homosexuality. Dr. Nicholas Cummings was President of the APA from 1979 to 1980, and also served as a member of the organization’s Council of Representatives . He served for years as Chief of Mental Health with the Kaiser-Permanente Health Maintenance Organization , and is the author of the book “Destructive Trends in Mental Health: The Well-Intentioned Path to Harm.” In an interview with representatives of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) in late April, Cummings said that the organization’s problems began with the rejection of the Leona Tyler Principle, which required that all public p...

Spitzer’s ‘retraction’ of his sexual orientation change study: what does it really mean?

Image
May 31, 2012 (NARTH.com) - A great deal of attention is currently being given to  the recent “retraction”  by Robert Spitzer , M.D., of his important study of sexual-orientation change (Spitzer, 2003a). The quotation marks around “retraction” are purposeful, for what has happened should not be characterized as a retraction. While this turn of events has now become a favorite talking point for those opposed to sexual orientation-change efforts ( SOCE ), the language of retraction reflects politically motivated speech rather than scientific analysis. What follows is intended to help those confused by Spitzer’s actions and the subsequent media feeding frenzy to understand what has really occurred. I have outlined below some key points that seem to have been lost in the partisan utilization of this turn of events. 1. Spitzer has not retracted his study. The proper term for what Spitzer has done is provided in the title to his recent letter of apology: He has reassessed his ...
