Top 12 studies showing risks to couples in same-sex unions

Image
Last month the LGBT-activist Human Rights Campaign (HRC) carried out its latest campaign  –  targeting eight Catholic bishops in the U.S.  who publicly expressed support for traditional marriage, the Courage apostolate and, in some cases, even quoted the constant teaching of the Church (see  CCC nos. 2357 -2359 ) concerning homosexual conduct and persons with same-sex attraction ( SSA ). The aim of this Synod-related effort was to push for the acceptance of homosexual conduct and unions by the Catholic Church and to marginalize bishops who spoke out against such conduct and unions. The demonstrations against these bishops likely had no effect on the Extraordinary Synod or the targeted bishops. The HRC-friendly confusing language on homosexual persons and unions in the interim report was replaced by paragraph 55 in the final, official  Relatio , which reverted to Catholic teaching as set forth in the Catechism. Yet, a surprising one-third of the bishops at ...

New Homophiles insistence on “gay” identifier is a serious problem

Image
It was all but inevitable. The New Homophiles have finally made the big time, the front page of the  Washington Post  Style Section, above the fold no less. Eve and Josh sit fetchingly on a couch, Josh’s legs crossed exactly precisely just so, Eve’s bare feet, Josh’s dirty socks, lips pursed, college text books prominently displayed. Out of the shadows come the celibate “gay” Christians, writes Michelle Boorstein, frequent picker of Catholic scabs. Such a story was all but inevitable because it is such a good story. Here is a group of smart, young-to-youngish Catholics and Protestants announcing their unabashed and unashamed “gayness,” yet announcing also their fidelity to Christian sexual morality. No “gay sex” for them. Such a proposition was tailor-made for a media that is obsessed with all things “gay.” And after you run out of the first gay this, that, and the other, what’s there to write about? Hey, over there, look, they’re “gay” and Catholic but they stil...

Belgian bishop hopes Church will formally recognize same-sex unions

Image
English: Mgr. Bonny 2008 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The bishop of Antwerp , Johan Bonny , gave an interview to the Belgian daily  De Morgen  on December 27, in which he suggested that the Catholic Church should find a way to “recognize” the relationship that exists between “holebi” couples, holebi being the Dutch acronym for “homosexual, lesbian and bisexual” persons. “Inside the Church, we must look for a formal recognition of the relational dimension that is also present in many ‘holebi’ couples. In the same way that in society there exists a diversity of legal frameworks for partners, there must be a diversity of forms of recognition in the Church,” he said. “The values contained (in these relationships) are more important to me than the institutional question. Christian ethics are grounded in durable relationships where exclusiveness, fidelity and mutual care have the central role,” he said. “Next to that, there is also openness to new life, or at least the resp...

What underlies homophobia: the demand that discourse be structured to respond to delicacies, sensitivities, and ambitions of heterosexual middle-class white men

Image
Rainbow flag. Symbol of gay pride. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) David Blankenhorn posted some comments about me, and Maggie Gallagher has asked me to respond. Here are my two cents in italics: Here is my response: I do not know much of David Blankenhorn's life, even less of his deeper motives. The issues on which he has asserted a stake in the conversation are, I would remind him, not leisurely and slow for all of us. For some of us, engaging in a polite conversation would mean passively turning away from the danger posed to others. The striking words he uses are that he finds in in my voice nothing that reminds him of shared humanity or the complexities of experience. Much of what I write, especially of late, is about the experiences of people other than myself: the activists in France , the forgotten people in the US who write to me, the surrogate mothers in India , poor students in Belgium , etc. By contrast, his comment below revolves entirely about himself. The only thi...

Russia tightens gay adoption ban

Image
MOSCOW, February 18, 2014  –After Belgium’s Parliament passed a bill last week allowing children to be euthanized, a Russian politician is urging his government to consider outlawing adoption to the country. The news comes mere days after the Russian government passed a law forbidding the adoption of Russian children by same-sex couples and by single people who live in countries where same-sex “marriage” is legal. “The Russians are to be congratulated for taking a lead in the world in protecting children,” Gwen Landolt, vice-president of REAL Women of Canada , said in an interview with LifeSiteNews. Roman Khudyakov , a member of the right-wing Liberal Democratic Party of Russia , has requested the Russian Foreign Ministry to investigate the Belgian euthanasia law’s implications for children adopted to that country,  reports  RT, a Russian new agency. In 2013, approximately 5,700 Russian children were adopted by foreigners,  according  to Adoptio...

Brussels archbishop did not OK homosexual civil unions: spokesman

Image
Belgian media last week claimed that the new archbishop of Brussels , widely hailed in the Catholic Church and excoriated by the secular media  as a “conservative” , said through a spokesman that he has “no objections to civil unions between gay men."  This week, however, archdiocesan media spokesman Jeroen Moens told LifeSiteNews.com that his comments had been “misrepresented” in the press, and that the archbishop does not support homosexual civil unions.  Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard Moens was quoted by the Dutch language online news  site De Tijd  saying that Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard, has “no objection against civil unions between gay men,” adding: “Do not call it gay marriage, but a gay relationship.” Moens had reportedly said, “Let us say that Monsignor Leonard endorses a gay commitment.” The comments were published as a response to an interview with Leonard’s predecessor, the notoriously liberal Cardinal Godfried Danneels , who ...

Archbishop prays while topless gay activists shout curses and douse him with water

Image
BRUSSELS - In an astonshing display of gentleness in the face of a vile attack, the head of the Catholic Church in Belgium , Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard, remained calmly seated with eyes closed in prayer Tuesday as four topless women attacked him with shouts and curses and doused him with water.  It’s not the first time the bishop has been attacked for standing up for the Church’s teachings on homosexuality and expressing his concern for those who live the homosexual lifestyle. The incident took place at the ULB University in Brussels where the archbishop was participating in a debate on blasphemy laws. The four women, representing the pro-abortion and homosexual group FEMEN , took to the stage where they disrobed to reveal black-painted slogans on their bare chests and backs, such as ‘my body my rules,’ and 'anus dei is coming.' They also held signs reading ‘stop homophobia’. The women doused the archbishop with water from bottles formed in the image of t...
