Why it’s impossible for the Catholic Church to bless homosexuals as a ‘couple’

Image
Under the overall leadership of Pope Francis , the Catholic Church these days appears to  wallow in terminal confusion and self-contradiction.    One day we read that  “A French priest has announced in a televised interview that Pope Francis approves of his blessing of homosexual couples.”   On the same day comes the report that :  The newly-installed bishop of the Portuguese city of Porto, Manuel Linda, appeared to reject that Catholic doctrine that divorced and invalidly remarried Catholics should abstain from sexual intercourse .  He stated in a recent interview, “I’m convinced that it isn’t really a family: if they do so. Both clerics featured in these reports appear to be well and favorably known to the Vatican .  Both take stands that conflict with longstanding Church doctrine. But in doing so, they also contradict and refute one another. For if there is no family without sexual intercourse, what sense does it make to bless, ...

Ashley Madison - and sexual deviance

In recent days, many Americans have reveled in the hypocrisy of a number of well-known people revealed as subscribers to the Ashley Madison pro-adultery website. But there is a far more important revelation from the hackings: the alarming number who signed up for the site—33 million people. That startling statistic reminds us that no one is immune to sexual temptation. It also shows how far modern society has drifted from the idea that marriage is a permanent and exclusive union. Some people may be inclined to blame the breakdown of marriage on gays and lesbians, but as the Ashley Madison hack should make clear, heterosexuals are to blame for the breakdown of marriage. Long before there was a debate about same-sex anything, far too many heterosexuals bought into a bad liberal ideology about sexuality that came out of the sexual revolution. It was heterosexuals in the ’60s and ’70s who began to live as if marriage should last only as long as the romantic feelings last, replacing “as ...

The wreckage of the Sexual Revolution, laid bare in one website hack

Ed Stetzer (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A group calling itself the “Impact Team” announced it would release the names of people who used the Ashley Madison website if its owners didn’t shut the website down. If you hadn’t heard of Ashely Madison back then, chances are you now know more than you care to about the site, which brings together people who seek to have extramarital affairs. Its motto tells you all you need to know: “Life is short. Have an affair.” The site’s ownership didn’t comply with the demand, and in mid-August, the “Impact Team” released more than 25 gigabytes of data. As soon as the data was released, people combed through it looking for potential targets for humiliation, or even worse, extortion. But this isn’t just a problem that’s “out there” in the world. Ed Stetzer of Lifeway Research estimates that “at least 400 church leaders ( pastors , elders, staff, deacons, etc.)” would be exposed in the Ashely Madison affair. (Pun intended.) In one post, Ste...

Contraception gave us divorce and gay ‘marriage’ and will destroy us: here’s how

Image
Lyrl created this image as a visual explanation of the Standard Days Method. The Standard Days Method works for women who always have menstrual cycles between 26 and 32 days in length. Avoiding sexual intercourse on the days labeled 'fertile' results in a pregnancy rate of 10% per year. The method can also be used to achieve pregnancy - the woman has sexual intercourse on the days labeled 'fertile'. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) March 4, 2015 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) -- Although there has always been contraception , its acceptance and practice by society as a whole is a relatively new phenomenon. In the first part of the 20 th  century barrier methods became through mass production increasingly used. However, with the advent of the hormonal contraceptive pill in the 1960s the contraceptive era, ushering in the sexual revolution, really took off. The term “revolution” is by no means exaggerated, for the result was a fundamental change in the understanding of human sexua...

Matthew Vines on homosexual sin from Romans 1:26-27

"For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error." (Rom. 1:26-27, NASB ). Mr. Vines says, "Because of this [referring to their idol worship], God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way, the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error . . . How we understand this passage hinges in large part on how we understand the meaning of the terms 'natural' and 'unnatural' . . . First, the passage’s context. In 1:18-32,...

The sin of homosexuality

Image
Image via Wikipedia Let’s be straight with each other. Homosexuality turns our stomachs. It gives us the willies. As soon as we get beyond seeing them as a social group , and begin to consider the activities which earn them their name, we shudder. And then most of us feel bad. We feel bad because we want to be egalitarian about sin. We show that we are “with it” and still good Christians when we point out that adultery is just as bad as homosexuality . We think we can slop the world from calling us bigots if we also get after the straights. That’s why we blush at our repulsion at this sin. Image via Wikipedia What usually passes for sophistication today is the rejection of common sense, of what is natural. And it is natural to have our stomachs turned by homosexuality. It is a natural reaction because homosexuali ty is a decidedly unnatural action. Yes, all sins deserve eternal damnation and in that sense are equal. And yes, all sins are “unnatural” in the sense that they reflect ...
