Middle school hangs LGBT flag in cafeteria, bans flag of traditional family

Image
A small-town Minnesota school has become a center of controversy because of an LGBT pride flag hanging in its cafeteria. Following several weeks of parental and community concern, packed school board meetings, and student anxiety, Thomas More Society attorneys have requested an array of formal documents from school officials to investigate how policies may have been violated in this scenario. Marshall Middle School in Marshall, Minnesota, serves 679 students in grades 5 to 8. The rainbow pride flag, which is used to represent people who have chosen a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender lifestyle, hangs in the school’s cafeteria alongside the United States flag and a variety of international flags. A student-circulated petition opposing the LGBT flag and requests to display other flags offered by the school population were not welcomed by the administration. Thomas More Society Special Counsel Erick Kaardal, who has been retained to represent a group of Marshall residents, ...

OutFront Minnesota pivots to transgender rights

Image
Same-sex marriage was a immoral step into sin brought about by  OutFront Minnesota , a nonprofit organization that fought for for sin to be made legal in homosexual marriage . They achieved a goal for the moment. “The cultural change still has to happen. There is still work to be done,” said Monica Meyer. “There are dozens of anti-transgender bills in state legislatures across the country every year.”  In Minnesota, OutFront is pushing its sinful immorality back on legislation they say would erode LGBT immoral sexual behaviour and weaken the state’s 2014 antibullying law. But people are now seeing through this antibullying charade as a back door to teach about the unhealthy broken sinful immoral homosexual lifestyle choice . “We can’t sit back and say we’ve got this law passed and now we are done,” said Meyer, noting that years were spent fighting exceptions proposed to the state Human Rights Act.  A recent example, according to OutFront, is Rep. Duane ...

US: Turning down ‘gay wedding’ jobs the same as racism, judge rules

Image
A federal judge has shot down a ‘pre-enforcement challenge” to Minnesota ’s law that denies the right of Christian businesses and professionals to decline providing wedding services to gay couples. “A government that tells you what you can’t say is bad enough. But a government which tells you what you must say is even worse,” said John Tedesco, lead attorney representing the plaintiffs. “You can’t force people to say things that violate their beliefs.” But Chief District Judge John Tunheim disagreed with that principle in his lengthy 63-page ruling. The judge said turning away gay and lesbian couples is “conduct akin to a ‘White Applicants Only’ sign.” Preemptive filing to avoid legal jeopardy Carl and Angel Larsen, owners of Telescope Media Group that has a clearly stated Christian mission , wanted to extend their company’s services to include wedding videography. But before doing so, they wanted to make sure they would not be placing their livelihood in jeopardy if t...

In the war on family life, why are most American men neutral observers?

Image
What will it take to rouse the protective instincts of American fathers? The role of a father is to protect his family. The role of a man—a real man, I mean—is to protect the vulnerable. Yet the vast majority of American men today are sitting idly by, couch-potato spectators, while their families are menaced and their vulnerable neighbors victimized. For over 40 years now, we have tolerated the destruction of unborn children. We have averted our gaze as more and more elderly hospital patients succumbed to the effects of the steadily increasing morphine drip. We have allowed Planned Parenthood to encourage high-school students toward promiscuity, and homosexual activists to recruit adolescents to their cause. So is it any surprise that the vanguard of the sexual revolution has advanced further into our lives? Let me cite just a few frightening cases: In Massachusetts , the state’s highest court has ruled  that the names of some criminals convicted of sexual ...

UK group pushes transgender indoctrination on three-year-olds

Image
British three-year-olds should be taught to accept transgender playmates and explore their own gender using storybooks featuring androgynous penguins, MPs heard last week. But a parents' group says three is too young for gender issues, and that children are already being overloaded with ineffective social messaging. The statements to the British Parliament 's Committee on Women and Equalities (membership: 10 female MPs and a single male) came from The Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES), a lobby group for transgender people and one of many pro-trans rights groups testifying about everything from transgender people in the prison system to transgender victims of hate crimes in the courts. But it was transgender penguins that easily hooked the British news media as several national dailies happily ran full-colour illustrations from the hitherto unheard of Penguin   Land   series. These books are GIRE's tools for targeting nursery school an...

Parents outraged at proposed Minnesota transgender policy

Image
This week, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) is expected to approve a draft proposal that would allow transgender athletes to shower and share hotel and locker rooms with athletes of the opposite sex. Hotel rooms "should be assigned," says the policy proposal, "based on [the student 's] gender identity ,” a policy that could result in teenage boys sharing a hotel room with teenage girls. The policy draft seeks to protect the privacy – of the transgender child. School officials may not inform parents whether a student is biologically male or female with a gender "identity as a transgender person" without the student's permission. The proposal outraged parents and community leaders statewide. The Child Protection League, a grassroots organization of concerned parents, put out a full-page ad stating: “A male wants to shower beside your 14-year-old daughter. Are youOK with that?” The Minnesota Catholic Conference has launched an online...

The Supreme Court already ruled there’s no constitutional right to gay ‘marriage’—in 1972

Image
United States Supreme Court building. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Have you ever heard of the 1972  U.S. Supreme Court decision in a case called  Baker v. Nelson ? If so, you are probably a lawyer, or (like me) a person who regularly reads briefs and court decisions on the issue of redefining “marriage” to include homosexual couples. If you have never heard of this case, you can be forgiven — even if you regularly read news stories about the movement for the same-sex redefinition of marriage . However,  Baker v. Nelson  is an important precedent on this issue. It was the very first case in which anyone ever asserted that the Constitution of the United States protects the right to legally “marry” a person of the same sex. In  Baker , a male couple sued a county clerk in Minnesota for denying them a marriage license in May 1970. The case made its way to the Supreme Court of Minnesota — which, on October 15, 1971, issued a ruling declarin...

Betty Crocker joins push for gay redefinition of ‘family’

Image
Famed homemaking company Betty Crocker once promoted couples making up over a cake. Now, the 90-year old company says it is adjusting to the times by promoting all relationships -- including homosexual couples and cohabitating couples -- as equal to married couples with children. The change in Betty Crocker's focus became well known in August 2013, when the company – a subsidiary of General Mills , which supports same-sex "marriage” -- released  a video  promoting same-sex couples. At the same time, it  provided cakes  to homosexual couples who "married" in Minnesota after the ceremony was allowed. Last month, Betty Crocker donated cakes to couples at the Twin Cities Pride Parade , and an employee group marched in the Parade. It also  partnered  with New America, a left-of-center think tank, to put out a survey the company says aimed "to gain a first-person point of view on what it means to be a homemaker in America today -- and how those roles a...

Normalisation of homosexuality is a 'calamity' - John Piper

Image
Amid ongoing "gay pride" celebrations and the push for gay marriage, influential evangelical John Piper wants to put it all in perspective for the church. "My sense is that we do not realise what a calamity is happening around us," Piper, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis , wrote in a commentary on Thursday. "Christians, more clearly than others, can see the tidal wave of pain that is on the way. Sin carries in it its own misery." It's been nearly a week now since marriage for gay and lesbian couples was legalised in New York and since hundreds of thousands of Americans celebrated homosexuality with gay pride parades , not only in New York but also in Piper's home state of Minnesota . Homosexuality and its celebration are nothing new, the Reformed pastor clarified. "[Homosexuality] has been here since we were all broken in the fall of man," he wrote. "What’s new is not even the celebration of homosexual sin. Hom...
