Broussard, Bigotry, and the NBA

Image
The criticism of Broussard is totally unwarranted After watching Broussard’s remarks with my wife, I turned to her and said, “That was strong.” All he did was to confess what the Bible teaches about sexual morality and about what God requires of every Christian—obedience ( 1 John 2:4). It was a clearer word than what you would hear in many pulpits. It was biblical. It was faithful. It was courageous. After the news broke earlier today that Jason Collins has come out as the first openly gay player in the NBA, I didn’t really plan to comment. But that all changed after watching Chris Broussard ’s commentary for ESPN . After Collins’ announcement appeared, all the sports shows were abuzz with the news. ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” hosted a discussion between two sportswriters: the openly gay LZ Granderson and the Christian Chris Broussard. The long and short of it is this. Jason Collins still claims to be a Christian even though he is openly gay. ESPN asked Broussard to comment ...

Obama administration to begin planning open transgender service in the military

Image
WASHINGTON, D.C. , – The Obama administration, is prepared to lay out the plan that will allow "transgender" soldiers to serve openly the military. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter wrote in a public memo last month that those in charge of implementing the new policy "will start with the assumption that transgender persons can serve openly without adverse impact on military effectiveness and readiness unless and except where objective, practical impediments are identified[.]" The dismantling of the transgender ban   officially began   Monday, according to   USA Today , when higher-ups in the Pentagon met to discuss how best to integrate openly transgender troops into the U.S. armed forces . Many practical aspects of the change remain undefined, including what uniforms transgender soldiers will be expected to wear and to what sort of health care they will be entitled. Carter has called for a "working group" to sort out these issues by early next yea...

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 20, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Although the U.S. Military fight and die to uphold freedom, high-level military chaplains report they are increasingly being denied freedom of conscience and freedom of speech. There is also alarm about the negative effects on troop morale over the undoing of the 237-years’ practice of providing traditional religious support for U.S. soldiers. “We were promised that we would see no change - very little change,” says Col. Ron Crews, alluding to a two-star officer ’s assurance that the “ Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell ” repeal would not impede the ministry of military chaplains. That promise, he says, has not been kept. Col. Crews, executive director of Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, was speaking at a panel along with military chaplains and religious freedom activists during the 2012  National Religious Freedom Conference  in Washington D.C on May 24.  The panelists agreed that the repeal of Don’t A...
