Transgender - Politicians personal views don't match science A law that would allow transgender South Australians to have their gender formally recognised without undergoing surgery will eventually pass, Premier Jay Weatherill says. A conscience vote on the proposal was lost in state parliament on Thursday with measures to prevent couples being forced to divorce if a partner transitioned also defeated. The premier has championed the bill but was absent from the evening vote because of a trip to Finland to visit a nuclear waste dump . It has been four years since gay Labor senator Louise Pratt stood up in parliament, pleading for it to stop pretending her love, her family didn't exist. Pratt lives with a transgender partner Aram. Louise, 40, first met Aram, 29, he was a woman named Renae and their relationship has had to survive his transition to male. David Reimer was originally named Bruce after he was born a boy along with his identical twin brother Brian in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1965. A botched circumcision at about eight months burned off the boy’s penis, leaving his young parents bewildered about how they should raise their son. Parents thought they had found an answer when they learned through a television program about Dr. John Money of the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, a psychologist renowned for his theories about gender. Money believed identifying as male or female was a learned trait, but wanted to prove his theory with an ideal test subjec...
