Effects Of ‘Conversion Therapy’ Ban Rejected By Kiwis: Poll

Image
A nationwide poll has found that there is widespread opposition to the legal effects of a ‘conversion therapy’ ban. In the poll of 1,000 New Zealanders surveyed just before Christmas by Curia Market Research, respondents were asked “If a person is unsure about their sexual orientation or gender identity, should they be able to seek counseling support to determine their own direction in how they identify?” 81% of respondents said they believed a person should be able to seek counseling support to determine their own direction. Only 12% were opposed. According to a legal opinion released yesterday, if a person wanted to align their sexuality with the teachings and values of their particular faith – be it Muslim or Christian, Jewish or Sikh – and sought help to do so from a minister, imam, or another faith leader, a ban would make it virtually impossible to access the support they wanted. Furthermore, if they were able to find someone prepared to provide counseling of that kind, they coul...

New Jersey archbishop removes priest from ministry for LGBT activism

Image
A Catholic archbishop has suspended an openly homosexual priest in the wake of his ongoing support for LGBT causes. Father Warren Hall tweeted Wednesday that Newark Archbishop John Myers suspended him from priestly ministry, meaning he is no longer permitted to publicly offer Mass or present himself as a priest. Hall told Religion News Service that Myers suspended him for supporting a former Catholic high school employee who was fired for being in a same-sex “marriage.” The woman, Kate Drumgoole, is suing Paramus Catholic High School. Earlier this week, Myers released a letter  supporting the school . “It seems that many have equated, mistakenly, the Church’s position of welcoming sinners (for we are all sinners) with the notion that we accept teaching and lifestyles contrary to the principles of our faith that can create scandal in our Church,” the archbishop wrote. “Much has been said in recent days about respect, diversity, and mercy. … For decades I have taught and wr...

Priest vows to 'transform' religious teachings by twisitng Scripture on homosexuality at UN meeting

Image
NEW YORK, April 15, 2013 ( C-FAM.org ) - After considering several religions, Sid Thompson changed his name to Daayiee Abdullah and converted to Islam at 30. He adopted the title Imam after developing the group Muslim Gay Men to dispute that the Qur’an rejects homosexuality. Now he performs religious ceremonies including same-sex weddings and wants to start a mosque for homosexuals. When asked how he can be Muslim and homosexual, he says Islamic prohibitions are based on myths. They were teaching tools, created to regulate society, that “supersede for humankind what the actual divine book says.” With this approach, Sodom and Gomorrah became for him a “story about rape, not about homosexual sexual acts.” Abdullah spoke this month on a panel at the United Nations headquarters on “ Being gay , lesbian, bisexual. and transgender in religious communities.” As UN agencies court religious leaders, the speakers presented a way to reinterpret religions to fit their interests...

English Catholic congregation shocked as gay activist disrupts Mass with video cam

Image
ROME, March 15, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A homosexualist activist disrupted a Mass held in a parish in Teignmouth, Devon , with a video camera last week as a priest prepared to read a letter from the country’s bishops conference opposing government efforts to legalize same-sex “marriage.” The incident has prompted concerns that anti-Christian activists are becoming more bold and aggressive as the Church continues to oppose same-sex “marriage.” A video, posted to YouTube , shows the priest hesitating after announcing that the letter would be read out on the request of the bishops conference. The priest, dressed in Mass vestments and standing in the pulpit, faces the camera and asks, “What’s that for?” The activist replies, “Do go on. It’s a record of what you’re about to say.” The priest asks the activist to sit down, but when he hears that the video is to be posted on the internet, declines to read the letter for fear of further disruption. After the priest offers to have th...

GAITHERSBURG , March 12, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - The Maryland priest who denied communion to a lesbian at her mother’s funeral is being stripped of his priestly faculties and “placed on administrative leave,” according to a letter from the Archdiocese signed by auxiliary Bishop Barry Knestout. Fr. Marcel Guarnizo  was previously censured  by the Archdiocese after denying communion to Barbara Johnson , who had reportedly introduced her lesbian “lover” to the priest in the sacristy right before her mother’s funeral Mass . Fr. Marcel Guarnizo According to  a source close to the incident who spoke with LifeSiteNews, Johnson’s lesbian lover physically blocked Fr. Guarnizo from speaking further with Johnson when she abruptly left the sacristy following this introduction. When Johnson presented herself for Communion, the priest refused to give it to her, although she ended up receiving from an extraordinary minister. It was later revealed that Johnson is also a Buddhist...

Philadelphia Catholic college revises code after firing homosexual prof.

Image
Image via Wikipedia PHILADELPHIA, December 13, 2011  - A small Catholic college in Philadelphia has revised its policies to end employment discrimination based on “sexual orientation [or] gender identity ” after its firing of an openly gay dissident priest set off a controversy, reports the  Cardinal Newman Society . While the cleric said he felt “vindicated” by the change, the school says the change simply reflects recent changes in city non-discrimination rules. Chestnut Hill College leaders earlier this year explained that the college terminated an adjunct teaching contract with Jim St. George, who presented himself as “Fr. George,” when the college discovered that he was engaged in a long-term relationship with another man. St. George is a member of the  Old Catholic Apostolic Church of the Americas , a group that broke away from the Catholic Church in the 19th century. “At the time St. George joined our faculty, he presented himself as Father St. George and openl...

El Paso priest: failing to oppose homosexual agenda ‘a grave sin of omission’

Image
EL PASO, TX , Fr. Michael Rodriguez, the Texas priest who was transferred out of his El Paso parish after publishing opinion pieces condemning the homosexual lifestyle, discussed the controversy surrounding his situation in an interview with  The Remnant  last week. Image via Wikipedia Rodriguez’s essays, published as paid ads in the El Paso Times, explained the Church’s teaching on homosexuality and urged Catholics to support a local effort to oust El Paso politicians who he said had supported “public recognition and legitimization of homosexual unions.” The diocese of El Paso announced shortly after the ads were published that the priest would be transferred from his current assignment at San Juan Bautista parish, citing IRS regulations that forbid intervention in the political process by religious organizations. Fr. Michael Rodriguez The priest was reassigned to Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Presidio, Texas , which he said in last week’s interview is located “out in...

Gwyneth Paltrow supports second graders learning about homosexuality?

Image
Image via Wikipedia Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, a top gay rights proponent in Hollywood, is thrilled that her second-grade daughter is learning about homosexuality. In her newsletter  GOOP , the Iron Man actress says that when her daughter came home with news about a classmate’s lesbian parents, she was enthusiastic. “When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, ‘Two mommies? How lucky is she?!’” she wrote. Paltrow went on to question how Arkansas school board member Clint McCance, who apologized for publishing a death-wish against homosexuals on Facebook, could base his objection to the homosexual lifestyle on the teachings of the Bible . “This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society,” wrote Paltrow. “What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?” The post was followed by the opinions o...
