Opponents of California transgender bill sue state officials over tossed petition signatures

Image
SACRAMENTO, CA, March 28, 2014  – The backers of a failed statewide petition to place California’s controversial new  transgender law  on the ballot for a public vote have sued the secretary of state and a number of county officials demanding an explanation as to why more than 131,000 signatures were  thrown out  as “invalid” – including the signature of one of the petition’s sponsors. The law in question allows students at California’s public schools to use the bathroom, changing room and other gender-based facilities of their choice, regardless of physical sex.  It also allows boys to participate in girls’ sports and other activities and vice versa, as long as the student says he or she “identifies” as the opposite sex. Privacy for All Students (PFAS), a group based in Chino, collected more than 600,000 signatures on a petition to force the law on the ballot for a chance at repeal by voters.  Only 504,760 were required to force a referendum,...

Maine high court orders school to open girls’ restrooms to transgendered boys

AUGUSTA, ME , February 3, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Five years ago, the administration at a Maine school told transgendered fifth-grader ‘Nicole’ Maines that he had to stop using the girls' bathroom at school and instead use a staff bathroom. But last week, the state's highest court said the administration had violated the state's law preventing gender-based and sexual identity discrimination. On Thursday, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court   ruled  5-1 on the lawsuit brought by Maines' family and the Maine Human Rights Commission, saying that the school violated the state’s Human Rights Act. The lawsuit was filed in 2009. 'Nicole' Maines Jennifer Levi, director of the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders ' Transgender Rights Project, which is based in Boston,  told   NBC News  it is the first ruling of its kind from a state’s high court. The activist called it “a momentous decision that marks a huge breakthrough for transgender young pe...

High school: Girls should avoid restroom if they’re bothered by transgender boy in the stalls

Image
New details have emerged in the case of a ‘ transgender ’ boy  accused  of sexually harassing girls in the women’s restroom of a Colorado high school. While school officials initially denied any harassment took place, new details reported by the Pueblo Chieftain  indicate that there may be more truth to the girls’ claims than administrators are willing to admit. Florence High School was plunged into controversy in October after a male student who says he is “transgender” was permitted to use the girls’ restroom facilities. The boy was subsequently accused of harassment – a claim that has been denied by the school. On October 10, Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) wrote a letter of warning to Florence High School on behalf of an undisclosed number of female students and their families who have alleged harassment. “This is a nightmare scenario for the teenage girls—some of them freshmen—and their parents at this school,” PJI attorney Matthew McReynolds said ...

Federal court blocks California reparative therapy ban

Image
SACRAMENTO,  – A federal judge has temporarily barred California from enforcing its ban on reparative therapy for children and teens.  California is the first state to place restrictions on reparative therapy, which is designed to help people with same-sex attraction fight their homosexual urges and develop healthy relationships with the opposite sex.  Homosexual activists claim the therapy harms same-sex attracted youth by making them feel as if their sexual urges are bad or wrong, leading them to depression or even suicide.  Governor Jerry Brown signed a law banning reparative therapy for use with minors in October, calling it “quackery.”  The ban is set to go into effect January 1. Governor Jerry Brown signed the law banning reparative therapy for use with minors in October, calling it “quackery.” Three therapists in California sued to overturn the ban, arguing it violates their constitutional right to free speech.  The plaintiffs in the ...

Democrat admits, ‘Attack on parental rights’ is ‘the whole point’ of banning sex orientation therapy

Image
SACRAMENTO, CA , August 2, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The author of a California bill that would forbid minors from seeking therapy to overcome unwanted feelings of same-sex attraction has admitted his intention was to undermine parental rights . State Senator Ted Lieu wants to undercut parental rights. “The attack on parental rights is exactly the whole point of the bill, because we don’t want to let parents harm their children,” said State Senator Ted Lieu, D-Torrance. Senate Bill 1172 would ban anyone under 18 from receiving reparative or sexual orientation conversion therapy , even if requested by the teens or their parents. The bill would label the treatment “unprofessional conduct” and “therapeutic deception.”   The bill  passed the state Senate  in June. It is now being considered in the state Assembly.  After likening the therapy to allowing children to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, the  43-year-old Taiwanese-born legislator ...

California bill targets consensual therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction

Image
Seal of the Senate of California (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A new bill that would hamstring therapy for unwanted homosexual attraction and label support for the effectiveness of such therapy “therapeutic deception” has passed its first hurdle in a California committee. While banning outright such therapy for minors regardless of consent, Senate Bill 1172, introduced by the openly homosexual Senator Ted Lieu and backed by Equality California, makes it an actionable offense for a mental health professional to conduct such therapy with a consensual client “by means of therapeutic deception.”  The offense can be brought to court by “a patient, former patient, or deceased former patient’s parent, child, or sibling,” with an eight-year statute of limitations for patients and five years for relatives. The bill  defines  “therapeutic deception” as “a representation by a psychotherapist that sexual orientation change efforts ... can or will reduce” homosexual conduct or de...
