During the same-sex ‘marriage’ debate prior to the April 17 passage of the Marriage ( Definition of Marriage ) Amendment Bill, Family First was a major force in educating and mobilising the public to stand up for marriage being between one man and one woman.  According to Bob McCoskrie, the National Director of Family First, the Charities Registration Board cited that view as one of the reasons for the deregistration. Family First Charity loses status because of its position on Homosexuality

Charities Commission (New Zealand) (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Green Party is calling for a public debate about how charities are defined after a decision to remove Family First 's charitable status . The Charities Registration Board has ruled that Family First's main purpose is political, rather than charitable, and that it will lose its charitable status unless it appeals to the High Court by May 27. Family First director Bob McCoskrie said the organisation was being penalised for its leading role in the campaign against legalising gay marriage, which was passed by Parliament on April 17. "This is a highly politicised decision which is grim evidence that groups that think differently to the prevailing politically correct view will be targeted in an attempt to shut them up," he said. Ironically, the Greens, whose MPs voted unanimously in support of gay marriage, were the only party to speak up for Family First yesterday. Green MP Denise Roche , wh...

Hayes yesterday tweeted to his 60,748 followers: "Important for gay people to know the true position of the Salvation Army when considering who to donate to. Sad." The Salvos responded last night by pointing out they helped some of Australia 's most marginalised and needy people, including gay and transgender ones. Spokesman Major Bruce Harmer said most of Australia's faith-based charities wo...

Image via Wikipedia The New Democrat Party’s unanimously-passed resolution to call on the government to revoke the charitable status of “ex-gay” groups is a “potential attack” on all Christian charitable groups, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada warned Tuesday. “Should members of the LGBT community who, as the result of personal decision, want to discuss changing their sexual behaviour be told there’s nowhere to go?”  asked  Don Hutchinson, the EFC’s General Legal Counsel, at the Activate CFPL blog.  “Should religious charities be forbidden from providing support to those who want to converse, seek counselling or change their lifestyle?” The NDP ’s resolution,  passed  at their annual convention in Vancouver last month, called on the government to “immediately remove any charitable status currently enjoyed by ‘ex-gay’ organizations” and to ensure they are not granted such status in the future.   In his remarks, the sponsor specifically named...
