Christian churches ‘must be made’ to affirm homosexuality, says New York Times columnist

Image
NEW YORK, April 7, 2015 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A New York Times   columnist and a corporate leader have agreed that Christian churches “must” be convinced, or coerced, to change their teachings on sexual morality and abandon an “ossified” doctrinal teaching that sex outside heterosexual marriage is immoral. Frank Bruni wrote that traditional Christianity – whether among evangelicals, Catholics, or Orthodox – provides the greatest resistance to normalizing homosexuality in the United States in a recent column in the New York Times. “ Homosexuality and Christianity don’t have to be in conflict in any church anywhere,” Bruni insisted. “The continued view of gays, lesbians and bisexuals as sinners is a decision. It’s a choice. It prioritizes scattered passages of ancient texts over all that has been learned since — as if time had stood still, as if  the advances of science  and knowledge meant nothing.” Bruni quoted furniture tycoon Mitchell Gold, who has used hi...

Pew poll shows most nations around the world find homosexuality immoral

Image
April 22, 2014  – Not a single nation in the 40 countries surveyed by Pew Research Center said abortion is morally acceptable. The majority of the people in dozens of nations across every continent but Antarctica deemed abortion and homosexuality morally unacceptable, according to results from the  Pew Research Center’s 2013 Global Attitudes . An outright majority of citizens in 26 countries found abortion morally objectionable – 13 of them by a three-to-one margin. The nations with the lowest tolerance of abortion were the Philippines , followed by Ghana, Indonesia, Uganda, and El Salvador. Similarly, majorities in 22 nations  opposed homosexuality  on moral grounds. Majorities in only three countries say homosexuality is morally acceptable: the Czech Republic , Spain, and Germany. “The results of the Pew poll aren’t that surprising,” Adam Cassandra, communications manager of Human Life International , told LifeSiteNews.com. “HLI’s pro-life mission...

Pope Francis Effect: Attitude change but no behaviour change

Image
One year into the era of Pope Francis, a new poll has found that a broad majority of American Catholics say he represents a major change in direction for the church, and a change for the better. But his popularity has not inspired more Americans to attend Mass, go to confession or identify as Catholic — a finding that suggests that so far, the much-vaunted “Francis effect” is influencing attitudes, but not behavior. Francis is more popular among American Catholics than Pope Benedict XVI was in February of last year, when he suddenly resigned, according to the poll, which is to be released Thursday by the Pew Research Center . But Francis has not reached the sky-high ratings that Pope John Paul II commanded at the height of his papacy in the 1990s, when he was credited with helping to bring down the Communist government in his native Poland. Francis, who draws giddy teenagers to his Wednesday audiences and generates Twitter traffic with every public remark, has clearly invigorate...

How churches can respond to homosexuals who attend services

Image
Imagine this no-longer-hypothetical situation: Matt and Alex Jones-Smith, newlyweds, arrive on a Monday morning in summertime to register their adopted daughter, Rachel, for Vacation Bible School at Maranatha Bible Church on Main Street. What should be the response of the Sunday school superintendent? Provide directions to the nearest liberal congregation. Register Rachel for Vacation Bible School and then hand the couple Marantha Bible's statement of faith, including the part on human sexuality where homosexual behavior is condemned. Proceed with registration, and then ask the Jones-Smiths, legally married in the eyes of the state, to meet with the pastor to talk about baptism and membership. None of the above. The Unbiblical Marriage This week, Minnesota and Rhode Island became the 12th and 13th states to allow same-sex marriage. With the favorable U.S. Supreme Court rulings in June, there will be more same-sex marriages nationwide for years to come. The 2010 federal ce...

Christianity on the right side of History not homosexual marriage

Image
Chances are you weren't surprised by yesterday's news that the Supreme Court found the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. A Pew Research Center poll last month found that 72 percent of Americans think that legal recognition for same-sex marriage is inevitable. That's the percentage of Americans overall—a slight majority of whom (51 percent) are okay with that. Strikingly, the poll found that there's little difference between evangelicals and Americans overall on believing that same-sex marriage is inevitable (70 percent of evangelicals think so), though only 22 percent of evangelicals support same-sex marriage. The Supreme Court didn't actually say that there is a constitutional right to same-sex marriage or bar states from limiting unions to a man and a woman. But there was widespread agreement that the decisions were historic—both an indicator and a catalyst for changing views on sexual ethics, marriage, family, social justice, government powers, and o...

The false narrative of gay ‘marriage’: it is not inevitable

Image
June 25, 2013 ( Breakpoint.org ) - In his book, “ The Black Swan ,” Nicholas Nassim Taleb discussed what he calls the “narrative fallacy.” This refers to our “limited ability” to look at a sequence of facts “without weaving an explanation into them.” While this tendency helps us make sense of the world around us, it can and often does mislead us. It creates a mistaken impression that we understand things better than we really do. And, it often causes us to view the facts in ways that are consistent with the narrative we ourselves have created. Or is it? Case in point: the recent news – or in this case, news blackout – out of Illinois . A few weeks ago the state legislature took up the issue of same-sex marriage. The outcome was regarded as a foregone conclusion. Illinois is President Obama’s home state, and his party enjoys commanding majorities in both houses. Same-sex marriage enjoyed the support of both the governor and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The president had ev...

ABC Media Bias 5-to-1 wants to shape immoral Homosexual Marriage agenda not report

Image
The Pew Research Center came out with a report this week that told us what we already knew — that the media is hugely in the tank for same-sex 'marriage': "In a period marked by Supreme Court deliberations on the subject, the news media coverage provided a strong sense of momentum towards legalizing same-sex marriage, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center. Stories with more statements supporting same-sex marriage outweighed those with more statements opposing it by a margin of roughly 5-to-1." When it comes to marriage the media doesn't cover the news, it tries to shape it. And yet, the Pew same report observed that comments about marriage on the social media platform Twitter were far more even (because social media more accurately reflects the real conversations taking place everyday across America than your average big-city newsroom): On social media, the opinions expressed on Twitter were closely split between those that supported (31%) and...

Is support for Homosexual ‘marriage’ really rising?

Image
A recent  report  by polling company Pew Research appears to show that there has been growing support for same-sex marriage over the last 10 years. This is unsurprising, given factors such as the media bias on the issue (see last week’s CNN segment with Piers Morgan and Ryan Anderson for just one example), President Obama and Vice-President Biden supporting it, and the growing number of celebrities and public figures in favour. According to the report, 14% of Americans have changed their minds and now support same-sex marriage. These people were asked to give reasons for why they changed their minds. The most common reason given (32% of those who changed minds) was that they know someone who is homosexual. Republican Senator Rob Portman , who a few weeks ago said he supported same-sex marriage because of his son who is homosexual, is an example of this. But this is hardly a reason for supporting same-sex marriage. Firstly, many homosexuals oppose same-sex ...
