‘Transgender’ teen girl wins access to boy’s high school bathroom
NEWCASTLE, Ontario , – A girl who identifies herself as a boy has been given permission to use the boy’s bathroom at her Ontario public high school . Sixteen-year-old ‘James’ Spencer decided to change schools after she began dressing and acting like a boy. Officials at Clarke High School in Durham Region were at first reluctant to let the biological girl into the boy’s room, asking James to use a private washroom that required a key from the main office. But James started a school-wide petition that eventually swayed the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board to let her have her way. “We decided it would be most appropriate ... and that’s the direction we’ve taken,” said Martin Twiss, the board’s superintendent of education to The Star.
