‘Their viewpoint kills people’: Stanford revokes funding for pro-marriage conference after backlash

Image
PALO ALTO, CA , March 21, 2014 – A group of about 100 homosexual activists at Stanford University have successfully intimidated the Graduate Student Council (GSC) into withdrawing $600 in previously-approved funding for a pro-marriage conference to be held on campus in April. The university administration also tried to charge the organizers $5,000 for security costs, but backed down amidst public pressure after the organizers accused them of “impos[ing] a tax on free speech.” The Stanford Anscombe Society ( SAS ) is  sponsoring  the event, called “Communicating Values: Marriage, Family and the Media.”  Featuring prominent pro-family speakers, the event’s goal is “to help university students and young adults to promote the values of marriage, family, and sexual integrity to the broader popular culture.” The GSC voted 10-2 to withdraw funding for the marriage conference.  Still, the conference will go on as planned, using funding from private dono...

Baking Cakes for Homosexual Marriages

Image
English: Wedding cake of a same-sex marriage  (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The call for tolerating same-sex marriage has become a demand for compliance. Cases like Masterpiece Cake Shop in Colorado and Elane Huguenin's New Mexico photography business have shown us that "tolerance" ends exactly where the right to say "no" begins. And so people, businesses, and non-profits are forced to choose between their livelihoods and their convictions. Some fellow Christians are giving this new state of affairs a thumbs-up, including Kirsten Powers , whose fearless stand against abortion I admire, and Skye Jethani, a friend I respect greatly. They argue that Christians who won't participate in gay " weddings " are "applying Scripture selectively." If you object to baking a cake, shooting photographs or playing music for a ceremony for two men or two women, they say, you should also object to serving anyone with an unbiblical lifestyle. But since ...

Tolerating homosexual marriage is now a demand enforced by Government

Judge forces Christian Businessman to bake a cake for immoral Homosexual Marriage or go to jail

English: Wedding cake of a same-sex marriage, photo taken on a party in Offenbach am Main, Germany Deutsch: Hochzeitstorte auf einer Lebenspartnerschaftsfeier, aufgenommen in Offenback am Main 中文: 同性婚姻典礼上的婚礼蛋糕,摄于德国奥芬巴赫 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Denver Post says: "If you're going to sell wedding cakes in Colorado, you have to sell them to everyone who comes into your shop. You can't pick and choose among customers based upon your belief that some weddings are immoral." But not all agree. Does the owner of a business have the right to refuse service to a customer? If refusing to sell alcohol to an intoxicated person a judgment call? Can churches refuse to allow homosexuals to use their halls? That's the principle that administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer reinforced with his recent ruling that the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood must sell wedding cakes to gay couples. This is fact tramples on religious liberty outright. Is homosexuality a sin?

Image
Saying that homosexuality is a sin is probably the ultimate taboo in current society. The question of whether homosexuality is a sin has become the “third rail,” if you touch it, you will be electrocuted! Those who are promoting the homosexual agenda purposefully attack with over-the-top outrage and vitriol in order to frighten and discourage Christians from speaking out on the issue. If you believe homosexuality is a sin, you hate homosexuals.  If you believe what the Bible says about homosexuality, you are a hateful, homophobic bigot. The gay rights movement has gone far beyond fighting for equal rights. They are now, in fact, fighting to take away the free speech rights of those with whom they disagree. How long before it becomes illegal to say that homosexuality is a sin? How long before the search engines begin banning any sites that state homosexuality is a sin? The Bible absolutely condemns homosexuality as an immoral and unnatural sin (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans...

How Do Evangelical Churches Talk About Homosexuality?

Image
Jeff Chu describes himself as gay, partnered, relatively politically conservative, and a member of a relatively liberal New York City congregation in a relatively conservative denomination ( Reformed Church in America ). He is far from his Southern Baptist upbringing but, once in a while, finds himself wondering "whether my homosexuality is my ticket to hell, whether Jesus would love me but for that, and how good a Christian could I be if I struggle to believe that God loves me at all."  For Chu, and for many Christians of all sexual orientations, homosexuality is a "spiritual wedge issue," one of those topics or teachings that "gnaw at us and what faith we may have left." In fact many would claim, not only is he not saved, but completely deceived, but seeking to appear righteous, like the Pharisees. Chu is also a journalist, and the author of Does Jesus Really Love Me? A Gay Christian's Pilgrimage in Search of God in America (Harper Collins). The...

Opposing same-sex marriage: a civil decision, not a religious one

Image
August 8, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Let’s start with what actually constitutes hate. Westboro Baptist Church is not at all coy about the word “hate,” so much so, in fact, that they even decorate their signs and websites with the word. On the opposite side, though, actress Rosanne Barr tweeted last week, “anyone who eats S***-Fil-A deserves to get the cancer…” The vast majority of people who oppose same-sex marriage ( SSM ) are anything but hateful. In fact, when people accuse SSM opponents of being hateful, they usually employ two logical fallacies : an ad-hominem attack against the person instead of the argument, and a straw-man fallacy , misrepresenting the position as one that stems from emotional bias rather than reasoned arguments. But there are reasoned, legal arguments against SSM. In order to understand them, one must understand the state’s interest in institutionalized marriage, which is the creation and maintenance of the most stable known family unit. While I coul...

The face of hate

Image
Image via Wikipedia Author: Matt Barber.  “Progressives” are like pig farmers. In an effort to bury opposing viewpoints they sling pejorative slop, labeling as “bigot,” “hater,” “wingnut” or “racist” at those with whom they disagree. It’s the height of intellectual sloth. The ad hominem approach – chief among logical fallacies – undergirds an effort to both marginalize conservative viewpoints and avoid arguing on the merits the controversies of the day. For liberals, to set sail in fair debate is to navigate treacherous waters. We’ve seen this tired tactic abused ad nauseum in recent days by the mainstream media and Democrats. Aided by hard-left outfits such as the Southern Poverty Law Center – all too eager to provide “expert analysis” tailor-made for jaundiced journalism – liberal elites have been desperate to throw poison on bourgeoning grassroots opposition to Obama’s careening Marxist agenda. It’s straight out of the “progressive” playbook: Saul Alinsky ’s  “ Rules f...
