St. Petersburg court rules Russian gay advocacy group is a ‘foreign agent’

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Citing the Russian laws against homosexual propaganda, and rules governing NGOs that receive foreign funding, a St. Petersburg court has ruled that the Russian LGBT advocacy group called Vykhod (Coming Out) must register itself as a "foreign agent." The group is a member of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) located in Geneva, Switzerland , and is linked with the LGBT Network based in Scotland . According to Vykhod's Facebook page , Judge Naidyonova of the Vasileostrovsky District Court of St. Petersburg ruled the group is a foreign agent because it is “engaged in political activities on behalf of foreign countries,” and is in violation of the laws against homosexual propaganda because its activities and publications discriminate against “persons with traditional sexual orientation.” Legislation passed...

UN defends report calling on Church to renounce its moral teachings on homosexuality

ROME, February 10, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The UN committee that issued the report last week demanding that the Catholic Church change its teachings on abortion, homosexuality and extra-marital sex, has hit back  against criticisms , saying that it was issued only after “objectively examining all relevant information.” Kirsten Sandberg, chairman of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child , said, “As stated in its concluding observations, the Committee welcomed the open and constructive dialogue it had with the delegation of the Holy See , which made positive commitments in numerous areas.” “In particular, the Committee regards as positive the willingness expressed by the delegation to change attitudes and practices, and looks forward to the adoption of prompt and firm measures for the concrete implementation of its commitments,” Sandberg added. UN Secretary General defies members on ‘reproductive rights,’ homosexuality

GENEVA, September 21, 2012, ( C-FAM )— UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon courted controversy last week when he told nations on the Human Rights Council to place lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual rights and reproductive rights at the forefront of the United Nations human rights agenda. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Ban Ki-moon addressed UN delegations at the opening of the 21st regular session of the Human Rights Council, applauded the work of the Council in 2012, and said that “in particular, I welcome the groundbreaking, first-ever intergovernmental discussion, in March this year, on discrimination and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity.” The Secretary General was referring to  a highly controversial panel discussion  on LGBT rights that took place during the last regular session of the Human Rights Council.
