Stymied by courts, homosexual couples go after Kim Davis personally

Image
Liberty Counsel filed  two   new  briefs in the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Rowan County, Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis , seeking dismissal of the 2015 marriage license lawsuits  Ermold v. Davis  and  Yates v. Davis .  Both cases were filed by same-sex couples who received marriage licenses in 2015 while Davis was in jail, but who still want to punish Davis. The Ermold and Yates cases were dismissed in 2016, along with the original 2015 marriage license case  Miller v. Davis , because Kentucky 's Governor Matt Bevin and the general assembly acted to permanently change Kentucky's marriage licensing laws to protect the religious liberty of Davis and other county clerks. But Ermold and Yates were reinstated following an appeal. The lower court ruled Davis cannot be liable for damages in her official capacity, but allowed the case to proceed against her individually. To succeed, Ermold and Yates would have to show that ...

Trump district court nominee calls same-sex ‘marriage’ an ‘assault on nature’

Image
President Trump is under fire from liberal and LGBT groups for nominating a man to the federal bench who has said same-sex marriage undermines the “very idea of marriage” and is part of an “assault on nature” that began with contraception. Gordon Giampietro, nominated for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin , is currently an assistant general counsel of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company , whose past statements in various forums have raised the ire of progressives and, in particular, the LGBT community.   “No one would disagree with the fact that children, all the social science research shows this, are best raised by a man and a woman,” Giampietro said in an interview on a  Catholic radio show . “This is natural, this is the truth, and it’s irrefutable. And so I think it has to be articulated in a way which isn’t dismissive of those troubled relationships, but it is reaffirming of the truth of marriage.” Giampietro also has w...

Christian sues county after being fired for refusing to perform same-sex ‘wedding’

Image
Last year, a county clerk in Kentucky was   jailed   for refusing to issue homosexual marriage licenses . Now a county clerk in Florida is fighting a similar battle. Broward County Clerk Yanicka Parker was fired for asking her boss to have someone else in the clerk's office issue a marriage license to gays. Parker explained to Clerk of Courts Howard Forman that as a Christian and a minister she could not condone sodomy because of her sincerely held beliefs. As soon as she received an interdepartmental email stating all employees must perform wedding vows and issue licenses for homosexuals, Parker requested an accommodation. She also asked to be transferred or reassigned to a department that did not require officiating homosexual unions. When a statewide ban on homosexual marriage was rescinded on January 6, 2015, she again asked that someone else in the large Broward County Clerk's Office perform those duties, which constitute only a fraction of her work. Eve...

Gallup: In wake of gay ‘marriage,’ trust in the courts falls to all-time low

Image
PRINCETON, New Jersey , September 22, 2015  – The latest Gallup poll shows that Americans ' trust in the judiciary has fallen to an all-time low. Trust in the judicial branch of government dropped eight points just in the last year, which saw major decisions including the constitutionalizing of homosexual "marriages." It is a "significant" loss of trust, according to Gallup, with only 53 percent of Americans responding that they have "a great deal" or even just "a fair amount" of trust in the third branch of government. Trust in the executive (45%) and legislative (32%) branches are also quite low, but both were slightly up from last year. In 2009, Americans' trust in the judiciary was 76 percent. In just the six years since then, mistrust has risen in nearly a third of Americans. “The Supreme Court has caused the people to lose confidence in the entire judiciary, because over a period of years, the justices have issued ar...

I was a transgender woman…and here’s how it nearly killed me

Image
April 8, 2015 ( ThePublicDiscourse.com ) -- It was a pivotal scene. A mom was brushing a boy’s long hair, the boy slowly turned his head to look at her. In a tentative voice, he asked, “Would you love me if I were a boy?” The mom was raising her boy to become a trans-girl . In that split second, I was transported back to my childhood. I remembered my grandmother standing over me, guiding me, dressing me in a purple chiffon dress. The boy in that glowing documentary about parents raising transgender kids dared to voice a question I always wanted to ask. Why didn’t she love me the way I was? I am haunted by that boy and his question. What will the trans-kids of 2015 be like sixty years from now? Documentaries and news stories only give us a snapshot in time. They are edited to romanticize and normalize the notion of changing genders and to convince us that enlightened parents should help their children realize their dreams of being the opposite gender. I want to tell you my st...

Virginia’s attorney general leaves marriage defenseless

Image
February 25, 2014 ( BreakPoint ) - Imagine for a moment that someone sues you. You arrive in court, expecting your lawyer to defend your interests, only to hear him say that he disagrees with you and will now assist your adversary. There would be pandemonium. Your attorney would be relieved of his duties, and in all likelihood, face professional censure. Yet, something akin to this happened to the people of Virginia last week. It’s part of a trend that should trouble people regardless of their position on certain “hot-button” issues. On February 13, a federal district court judge in Norfolk struck down Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage. Judge Arrenda Wright Allen ruled that the voter-approved amendment to the Virginia constitution violated the 14th Amendment ’s Equal Protection Clause . Allen wrote that “Government interests in perpetuating traditions, shielding state matters from federal interference, and favoring one model of parenting over others must yield to th...

Federal court blocks California reparative therapy ban

Image
SACRAMENTO,  – A federal judge has temporarily barred California from enforcing its ban on reparative therapy for children and teens.  California is the first state to place restrictions on reparative therapy, which is designed to help people with same-sex attraction fight their homosexual urges and develop healthy relationships with the opposite sex.  Homosexual activists claim the therapy harms same-sex attracted youth by making them feel as if their sexual urges are bad or wrong, leading them to depression or even suicide.  Governor Jerry Brown signed a law banning reparative therapy for use with minors in October, calling it “quackery.”  The ban is set to go into effect January 1. Governor Jerry Brown signed the law banning reparative therapy for use with minors in October, calling it “quackery.” Three therapists in California sued to overturn the ban, arguing it violates their constitutional right to free speech.  The plaintiffs in the ...

LGBT intimidation lawsuits threaten free speech

Few things in nature are as terrifying as a prolonged drought. Rain is life-giving, a sign of God’s grace, but drought puts life to the test with a slow, consuming fire. Hence the blazing sun and a deserted town at high noon symbolize a time of trial, a final crisis when an honest man stands alone against the heat. The heat is increasing for those opposed to the normalization of homosexuality. Fewer and fewer people are willing to speak out against a movement which has the power to silence its opponents. Many leaders of the pro-family movement carefully avoid any discussion of the morality of homosexuality. Instead they prefer subtle sociological, psychological and legal arguments in support of traditional marriage . They do so not because these arguments are effective, but because they fear being called haters. Their unwillingness to confront the homosexual rights movement gives the final measure of credibility to the canard that “opposition to sodomy is bigotry.” Thes...
