HOMOSEXUALITY, SINGLENESS, AND CELIBACY

Image
The topic of a Christian understanding of homosexuality and a Christian and pastoral response to homosexuality is related in some ways to a Christian view of singleness.  There is a need, particularly among Protestant Christians, to revisit our view of singleness and how we communicate what we value in the local church.  If most of our programming is geared toward marriages and families in ways that communicate a devaluing of the single state, we will (perhaps unintentionally) convey to the person who contends with same-sex attractions that they must attain heterosexuality to find a spiritual home in the body of Christ. Recent scholarship on a Christian understanding of singleness suggests that marriage alone cannot convey all that there is to know and experience of God’s nature. Lisa McMinn illustrates this well: The fullness of God’s nature cannot be captured in one human who bears God’s image, in marriage as a model of God’s love for the Church, or in one of Christianity’s...

Vienna pushes abortion, LGBT agenda on young girls in ‘contraception brochure’

Image
The 90-page guide, funded by Vienna's Women's Health Program, promotes masturbation, transgender ideology, and abortion primarily to women and girls of all ages. The city of Vienna has published a “contraception brochure” for people of all ages that promotes abortion and advocates for LGBT causes. The 90-page document , titled “Very Intimate: My Body, Our Contraception,” was funded by the Vienna Women’s Health Program and is targeted at women and girls. Regarding the question “what sexuality means,” the brochure states: “Sex can mean many different things. When it comes to sexuality, many people think of love, comfort, and security.” “For others, sex is an adventure. They want to explore every possibility. Some seek confirmation through sex that they are attractive. For still others, sex is a spiritual matter. For them, it’s about more than just the physical experience. Many people want to have a pleasant and pleasurable time during sex, free from stress. Good sex means someth...

Vatican won’t stop pro-LGBT sex ed after parents appeal to Leo XIV

Image
The Dicastery for Culture and Education reaffirmed a 2019 Vatican document against modern gender theory in education but took no action against the controversial pro-LGBT program. Catholic parents who begged Pope Leo XIV to halt the implementation of pro-LGBT sex education in Hamburg’s Catholic schools received a brief Vatican reply reaffirming Church teaching on gender, but no direct intervention to stop the program. The pro-LGBT diocesan sex-education guidelines remain set to take effect on August 20. According to a report published by Italian outlet La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana , the Dicastery for Culture and Education responded to the parents’ complaint by pointing to a 2019 Vatican document which rejects modern gender ideology in education, but it did not announce any measure to stop the pro-LGBT Hamburg guidelines from being enforced in Catholic schools. The Vatican response was sent to Varinia Arauco, a Peruvian-born mother who wrote to Pope Leo XIV and other Vatican officials to...

Ontario Catholic school board to vote on flying gay ‘pride flag’ at all board-run schools

Image
A Catholic school board in Ontario will vote next week on a motion to fly the rainbow-colored homosexual pride flag at all board-run schools during the month of June. Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) Trustee Brenda Agnew gave notice of her motion titled “supporting our diverse school community” during an April 6 board meeting. Quoting Pope Francis along with LGBT talking points about “equity and inclusion,” the motion calls for the Board’s Director of Education Pat Daly to “direct all HCDSB schools including the Catholic Education Centre to fly the Pride flag during the month of June starting with 2021.” The motion is expected to be voted on by the Board at their next meeting on April 20. With nine trustees, the motion requires five votes to pass. A tied vote results in a fail. The HCDSB states on its website that its mission is to provide “excellence in Catholic education by developing Christ-centred individuals enabled to transform society.” The Catholic Church, basing i...

Ex-Gay Milo Yiannopoulos to open reparative therapy center for gays

Image
‘To suggest that reparative therapy is somehow damaging to people’s self-esteem is so laughably preposterous, I don’t take it seriously.’ After publicly describing himself as ‘ex-gay’ and saying he is consecrating his life to Christ, conservative activist Milo Yiannopoulos has again rocked the world, announcing that he plans to open a “reparative therapy” center in Florida “to help other people go through the same journey that I’m on myself.” “This has been the easiest thing to raise money for that I’ve ever done. There is an enormous demand for this among people who believe they’ve been led astray by … the gay establishment,” Yiannopoulos told the New York Post, which mislabeled the planned center as offering ‘conversion therapy’ in its original headline, before later altering it. “I think part of that is the resurgence of religious, socially conservative, kind of reactionary politics among noisy young conservatives,” asserted Yiannopoulos. “People who are kind of like DMing me now,” ...

Vatican bars gay union blessing, says God ‘can’t bless sin’

Image
Rome: The Vatican has decreed that the Catholic Church won’t bless same-sex unions since God “cannot bless sin”. The Vatican’s orthodoxy office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, issued a formal response on Monday to a question about whether Catholic clergy have the authority to bless gay unions. The answer, contained in a two-page explanation published in seven languages and approved by Pope Francis, was “negative” The note distinguished between the church’s welcoming and blessing of gay people, which it upheld, but not their unions. It argued that such unions are not part of God’s plan and that any such sacramental recognition could be confused with marriage. The note immediately disheartened aggressive advocates for LGBT Catholics and threw a theological wrench in the debate within the very liberal believe nothing and approve everything German church, which has been at the forefront of opening discussion on hot-button issues such as the church’s teaching on homosexuali...

French group 'Stop Homophobie' sues church

Image
Renaissance catholique, a French lay association of traditional-minded Catholics, has been indicted for calling “to discriminate against a group of people because of their sexual orientation.” That offense is included in the list of “racist” crimes in the French penal law dealing with media offenses. The whole process was initiated by “Stop Homophobie,” an association that has the ear of the authorities, and it is not simply a show of impatience with a private association that has different views: The words which are being characterized as a hate crime are a summary of a 2003 note from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, presided at the time by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger who went on to become Pope Benedict XVI. It is precisely the condemnation of the legalization of civil unions for homosexuals that is being called to the attention of the French penal courts, as summarized in the 2019 “Declaration of the truths relating to some of the most common errors in the life of the Ch...

Trump and Gays

Image
President Trump and his advisers have made the calculation that courting moderate, pro-LGBT voters won’t hurt them in the slightest with his Evangelical and pro-life base.  In case you missed it, Ric Grenell, the former acting director of National Intelligence, gave an outstanding speech at the Republican National Convention last month.  It was a historic broadside against the Deep State and internationalists who’ve been in power for pretty much the last 40 years. I’m sure their blood was boiling as they watched it. Just days before Grenell, a homosexual delivered his remarks, he made a video declaring Donald Trump the “most pro-gay president in American history.” The Trump administration has walked a fine line the past several years with its socially conservative base and the LGBT community. No one can deny that President Trump is quite possibly the most pro-life president we’ve ever had. He’s also admirably defended the religious liberty of the Little Sisters of the Poor and...

Five things about Homosexuality

Image
Q: If the Bible says so little about homosexuality, why do Christians insist on talking about it so much? A: The reason the Bible says comparatively little about homosexuality is because it was a comparatively uncontroversial sin among ancient Jews and Christians. There is no evidence that ancient Judaism or early Christianity tolerated any expression of homosexual activity. The Bible says a lot about idolatry, religious hypocrisy, economic injustice, and pagan worship because these were common sins for God’s people in both testaments. The prophets didn’t rail against homosexual practice because as a particularly obvious and egregious sin it was less frequently committed in the covenant community. The Bible talks about bestiality even less than it talks about homosexuality, but that doesn’t make bestiality an insignificant issue—or incest or child abuse or fifty other sins the Bible barely addresses. Counting up the number of verses on any particular topic is not the best way to ...
