LGBT activists want to force Catholic schools in Canada to hire teachers in same-sex ‘marriage’

Image
Expecting Catholic school employees to abide by long-standing Catholic morals will be added to the legal understanding of “discrimination,” if a case currently before the Alberta Human Rights Commission succeeds against Calgary Catholic School District. At issue is the district’s language in teacher contracts that holds them to “Catholic values,” particularly a “lifestyle and deportment in harmony with Catholic teaching and principles.” The Calgary Herald reports that Barb Hamilton, a former principal in the district, is one of two people suing over the requirement; another teacher has chosen to remain anonymous. Hamilton has filed her human-rights complaints on “marital status, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation” grounds, Catholic News Agency reports . “Their perspective is I resigned and my perspective is I wasn’t given a choice,” she claims. “Relationships that would be acceptable are those recognized by the Catholic Church, that have to be acknowledged by a Catholic priest...

Christian bus driver fired after refusing to drive Calgary ‘Gay Pride bus’

Image
A Calgary bus driver who is a faithful Christian and married father of two children has been fired from his job after stating publicly last week that he would refuse to drive a city bus decked out by his employer to promote the city’s Gay ‘Pride’ festival. “They called me in and read me a statement saying that I would no longer be working for them,” Jesse Rau, former Calgary Transit Authority employee, told LifeSiteNews in an exclusive interview. Two weeks ago Calgary Transit unveiled a “Pride Bus” it had specially decorated with a rainbow paint job to promote the city’s Calgary Pride Festival. A large banner on the side of the bus states: “Ride with Pride” and provides the dates for the celebration of homosexuality, something that Christians believe is a deviation from God ’s plan for human sexuality. Rau came out publicly last week saying that he would refuse to drive the bus if it were put on his route since he wanted no part in promoting what he said was a “very rad...

Alberta premier resigns amidst spending scandals

Image
EDMONTON, Alberta , March 20, 2014  – Amidst spending scandals and a caucus revolt centering on her leadership, Alison Redford announced last night that she is stepping down as Alberta premier effective Sunday. Redford is a strong advocate of legal abortion and same-sex “marriage.” Premier Alison Redford at the 2013 Gay Pride Parade During the 2012 election campaign, she came out strongly against conscience rights for doctors, arguing that doctors should be forced to commit abortions and prescribe contraception even if it goes against their beliefs. She said it was a question of “diversity.” “I certainly respect people’s personal beliefs, but I believe in a province where we have to treat individuals with dignity and respect. We have to live in a community where we respect diversity and we understand that everyone feels safe and included,” she explained. She set a precedent for provincial government leaders in 2012 when she became the first Alberta premier to accept...

13-year-old says ‘gay porn’ led to repeated rape of 4-year-old

Image
CALGARY, Alberta , August 10, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A 13-year-old boy is awaiting sentencing in Calgary after pleading guilty to raping a four-year-old boy in his foster home . The teen, identified as T, told police after his arrest on Jan. 3rd that the idea for the assaults, which occurred over the course of a year, came from watching “gay porn” on his foster parents’ home computer. T’s assaults were discovered when he was caught in the midst of an attack by a neighbor who could see in the bedroom window from his office next door. The neighbour called 911, and when police arrived fifteen minutes later he pointed them to the window where the assault was still in progress. The neighbor said the light in the bedroom went out as soon as the police knocked on the front door. T answered and admitted to the assault. Judge Lynn Cook-Stanhope of Alberta’s Youth Court found T guilty in March. She was supposed to have heard sentencing arguments on July 23rd, but delayed ov...

Here is how Homosexual Marriages will damage Churches

Image
Christians are often asked by gay activists why they oppose same-sex “marriage.” “How does our marriage hurt you?” they ask. Well, I can think of one significant way it will hurt us: It will destroy religious freedom and free speech rights. The handwriting is on the wall in Canada, which legalized same-sex “marriage” in 2005, in effect completely changing its true meaning. Since then, as Michael Coren notes in National Review Online , “there have been between 200 and 300 proceedings … against critics and opponents of same-sex marriage.” Of course he means legal proceedings. For instance, in Saskatchewan, a homosexual man called a state marriage commissioner, wanting to “marry” his partner. The commissioner, an evangelical Christian , declined to conduct the ceremony for religious reasons. He simply referred the man to another commissioner. But that was not enough for the gay couple. Even though they got their ceremony, they wanted to punish the Christian who had declined...

Alberta Premier sets new precedent: will attend ‘gay pride’ festival

Image
EDMONTON, Alberta , June 4, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - In what organizers of this year’s Edmonton homosexual festival are calling a “milestone,” Alberta Premier Alison Redford announced over the weekend that she has accepted the group’s invitation to participate in the city’s “gay pride” festival next Saturday, something that event organizers say no other Alberta premier has done before. “This is a huge milestone for us,” Colleen Sutherland, co-chair of the Edmonton Pride Festival Society, told CTV Edmonton. Premier Alison Redford “It’s saying to us that we are being accepted by the government. It’s saying to us that the gay, lesbian and transgendered community is just as important as any other community and no different than any other walk of life so we’re very honoured to have her there.” “I think that it shows that everybody is accepted across the province and it emphasizes the Edmonton (public) school board taking on the new sexual orientation and gender identity p...

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) CALGARY, Alberta, April 11, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – As her party dominates polls in the lead-up to Alberta’s April 23 election, the leader of the upstart right-wing party Wildrose has insisted she is ‘pro-choice’ and has no intention to ‘legislate morality.’ After criticizing Wildrose leader Danielle Smith last week over her previous support of conscience rights for doctors and marriage commissioners, the reigning Progressive Conservatives attacked a Wildrose proposal to institute a mechanism for citizen referendums, calling it a backdoor plan to repeal the ‘rights’ of women and homosexuals. But Smith made her own views clear at an all-candidates debate in her riding of Highwood on Tuesday. “When our members elected me they knew they were electing a c...

Alberta judge upholds ‘truth about homosexuality’ activist’s free speech rights

Image
CALGARY, April 2, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Paul Jeffrey has dismissed a Crown appeal of a decision from a lower court that acquitted Bill Whatcott of trespassing charges for distributing “Truth about homosexuality” pamphlets at the University of Calgary in 2008. On Friday, March 30, Jeffrey upheld the November 2011  ruling  by provincial court Judge John D. Bascom that stated the University of Calgary infringed on Whatcott’s Charter rights to freedom of expression when campus security arrested and detained him for distributing a pamphlet that addressed the “harmful consequences” of homosexuality. Bill Whatcott The university had argued that the Charter only applied to “government actors and government actions,” not to the university itself since it was a private entity. Bascom ruled, however, that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms applies to the University of Calgary since “the University is not a Charter free zone,” ...
