Christian schools will regret surrendering to LGBT bullies

Image
You don't win battles when there is an abundance of white flags in your arsenal. Christian universities haven't grasped that concept. One after the other, Christian schools has hoisted the white flag of surrender regarding their practices, policies, and precepts. That's called apostasy. Last month, California passed a resolution calling on religious leaders to affirm homosexuality and "transgenderism" and to accept that Christian efforts to help people with unwanted same-sex attraction or gender confusion are "ineffective, unethical and harmful." Eager to please, Dr. Kevin Mannoia, Azusa Pacific University (APU) chaplain and the former head of the National Association of Evangelicals, kissed the LGBTQ ring and genuflected under the rainbow flag by "directing pastors and counselors to reject biblical views of sexuality and deny counseling for those struggling with unwanted same-sex attraction or gender confusion." And another white flag w...

Azusa Pacific University again has lifted a ban on sinful homosexual relationships on campus.

Azusa Pacific University again has lifted a ban on LGBTQ relationships on campus. The University Board of Trustees directed administrators to update the student handbook for undergraduate students, campus spokeswoman Rachel White confirmed. The changes specifically removed language that barred LGBTQ relationships as part of a standing ban on pre-marital sex. God first? No Homosexuality first! The update, enacted Thursday, demonstrates Azusa Pacific’s commitment to “uniform standards of behavior for all students, applied equally and in a nondiscriminatory fashion,” according to university Provost Mark Stanton. “APU is an open-enrollment institution, which does not require students to be Christian to attend, and the handbook conveys our commitment to treating everyone with Christ-like care and civility,” Stanton said in a statement. “Our values are unchanged and the APU community remains unequivocally biblical in our Christian evangelical identity.” Why is the university claiming t...

Queering Azusa Pacific University

Image
A few days ago, I wrote a post titled  “Queering Azusa Pacific University,”  about the Los Angeles Evangelical Christian college changing its campus policy to be more LGBT-friendly. It was a strange move. The school now tolerates same-sex “romantic” relationships, even as it maintains — in theory — the idea that sex is only appropriate for married male-female couples. This is a feeble attempt by one of the country’s largest conservative Evangelical colleges to satisfy the Zeitgeist while maintaining the fiction that the school is still conservative and Evangelical on human sexuality. On September 24,  Barbara N. Harrington , who teaches writing in Azusa Pacific’s Honors College, sent a letter to the college’s Board of Trustees, alerting them to the radicalization underway at APU. I have seen the letter. A portion of it is below: Dear Members of the Board of Trustees – As we begin another school year, it is very appropriate to thank God for the gift that has bee...

Christian college restores ban on homosexual relationships after backlash

Image
Azusa Pacific University (APU), an evangelical Christian school in California, has reinstated official language prohibiting homosexual relationships on campus following the backlash. Last week, the school had removed language from its Student Standards of Conduct singling out homosexual relationships as an example of prohibited conduct. The school continued to forbid “sexual intimacy outside the context of” the marriage “covenant between a man and a woman,” but officials accepted LGBT activists’ argument that the overt reference to homosexuality “stigmatized” homosexual students and “falsely assumed that same-sex romances always involved sexual behavior.” On September 28, the APU Board of Trustees released a  statement  announcing that it had not approved the revised language and the “original wording has been reinstated.” Student newspaper  Zu Media   clarifies  that the previous change had been approved by the administrative board, but not the trustees...
