Alabama Chief Justice fights back against campaign to oust him for upholding marriage

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is fighting back as leftist activists campaign to remove him from office over his stand for natural marriage. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), and numerous atheists and LGBT activists have filed complaints with the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission against Moore, alleging ethical misconduct for urging state probate judges to uphold Alabama’s marriage laws and not a federal court ruling striking them down. But on Wednesday, Justice Moore asked the commission to dismiss the complaints, saying at a press conference that they are groundless and “politically motivated.” “This is not about a wrongdoing I’ve done.  This is not about ethics.  This is about marriage,” said Moore, according to Alabama News. “There’s nothing in writing that you will find that I told anybody to disobey a federal court order.” Moore has ordered probate judges in Alabama to uphold the state’s laws defining marriage a...

The 72-year-old florist being persecuted by LGBT activists and the state of Washington   told LifeSiteNews that the institutional campaign against her "isn't real to me." "I waited on Rob for years," Barronelle Stutzman said, referring to the gay former customer who sued her for refusing to participate in his "wedding" to a man, shortly after speaking at the American Family Association 's luncheon at the annual Values Voters Summit . "He would come in and pick out unusual and different vases, and he'd just say, 'Just do your thing, this is for Kurt's birthday,' or whatever, and I loved it because I got to get out of the box and make him something special. We had a great relationship. I really miss him." Stutzman said she never expected prosecution from the state, which her attorney later told LifeSiteNews could bankrupt her and cause her to lose her business. "Rob and I had been friends, as I said, for year...

A sweeping redrafting of family law in Nicaragua 's Civil Code , dubbed the new Family Code, has reiterated that marriage is the “essential foundation of the family,” and that the natural family is the foundation and core for the continued development of the country. The Family Code was approved by the National Assembly of Nicaragua in June of 2014 and came into effect April 8th. The code stipulates that marriage is defined as the exclusive union of one man and one woman, states that only opposite-sex married couples , Nicaraguan or foreign, can adopt children, and bans same-sex couples from receiving fertility treatments to achieve pregnancy. “The new Family Code unifies in one body with its own guiding principles all the family laws. It repeals all laws that are in contradiction with its principles while conserving positive measures and adding new aspects," said National Assembly Deputy Carlos Emilio Lopez in a  Nicaragua News Bulletin  report. The Family Co...
