Over 16,000 demand bus driver suspended for resisting LGBT propaganda be reinstated

Image
Over 16,000 people have signed a petition insisting that an English bus driver’s employer stand by him after he refused to drive a bus promoting LGBT “pride flag” colors.  CitizenGo launched the petition on behalf of the Konectbus driver, suspended after a college student reported him last week for refusing to drive a bus that bore a number decked out in LGBT “pride flag” colors.  “So far, after in the 36 hours since being put online, over 16,000 people have signed our petition asking that the bus driver is reinstated.  It demonstrates two things,” she continued. “Firstly that the British public feels strongly that nobody ought to be forced by their employer to support and promote principles which go against their personal beliefs.” She said the “overwhelming response” also shows that ordinary people are fed up with the ubiquitous rainbow flag and resent the way in which various corporations and public institutions are using the “political symbol” to coerce “the...

Israel Folau and Religious Freedom

Image
The success or failure of Israel Folau’s claim against Rugby Australia rests on one central, unresolved legal question. Just how far does somebody’s right to religious expression extend ? Amid all the drama and fury of the broader debate, it is easy to forget that Folau’s case is about something as dry as employment contract law.  Many of the questions Australians have argued over so vociferously in recent days — for instance, whether Folau is justified in asking the public for donations — will simply have no bearing on the final outcome. So what will? How will this argument actually be decided?  Professor Anthony Forsyth,  an expert in workplace law  at RMIT University, to better understand the key elements of the case. RUGBY AUSTRALIA’S ARGUMENT Rugby Australia terminated Folau’s contract in May after a tribunal found he had breached its code of conduct with an Instagram post telling gay people, along with others “living in sin”, that they would go ...

Israel Folau religious freedom and homosexuality

Image
On April 10, Israel Folau posted on his Instagram account the following message: “Warning: Drunks, Homosexuals, Adulterers, Liars, Fornicators, Thieves, Atheists, Idolators: Hell Awaits You. Repent! Only Jesus Saves.” Next to this big, bold statement was the message: “Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him.” This eye-catching text was from the Bible, a loose paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10: “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” If someone else had posted this it would almost certainly have slipped under the radar. But Folau was being watched. Partly this is because of his brilliance as a footballer. He holds the record ...

College suspends Christian philosopher for expressing ‘aversion’ to homosexuality on Facebook

Image
A Christian philosophy professor and award-winning lecturer at a post-secondary institution has been suspended for remarks he made on social media about homosexuality. Jean Laberge, a philosophy teacher at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal since 1994, has been placed on leave pending sanctions by college administration.  Laberge posted a note on Facebook on January 17 where he said that he had “aversion” and “distaste” for homosexuals, reported  Radio-Canada . He spoke of “fear” and his lack of comprehension for homosexuality while also saying he “respected” the condition. This note no longer appears on Laberge’s  Facebook page.   The teacher was suspended on January 30 for what the cégep’s spokeswoman Guylaine Fortin is now calling “an extended period.”  A cégep, unique to the educational system of the Canadian province of Quebec , is a post-secondary, pre-university college. Typically its teenage students attend for three years if they do not plan o...

Macy’s fires Catholic employee for questioning transgender bathroom policy

Image
Macy’s department store has fired a Catholic employee because he questioned their transgender bathroom policy, even though he says he told his employer he would enforce the policy. Back in May, Javier Chavez, a senior store detective at Macy’s Flushing, New York, location got a phone call about a male accessing the ladies room along with a female. A female customer and her daughter were afraid to enter the restroom due the male’s presence there, and a security guard reporting to Chavez directed the man to leave and use the men’s room. The man left, claiming to be a female, before then complaining to the store officials about being asked to leave. Chavez was later informed by a Macy’s assistant store manager that certain males can use the ladies restroom, something he had not been made aware of prior to the incident. Then an assistant security manager told Chavez that transgender individuals can use the bathroom of their choosing. Chavez responded that he had just beco...
