Lesbian couple sues Christian retirement community for denying housing application

Image
A “married” lesbian couple is taking a Christian retirement community to court over its requirement that prospective residents abide by Christian moral principles. Friendship Village is a non-profit retirement community “guided by Biblical values” that holds “Faithful Service” as one of its core values, according to its website. Despite the Bible’s unambiguous teachings on homosexuality, Mary Walsh and Bev Nance of Shrewsbury applied in 2016 to move to Friendship Village, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports . Walsh and Nance have been together for 37 years and got “married” in Massachusetts in 2009. After they paid a $2,000 deposit and got placed on a waiting list, they say Friendship Village rejected their application on the grounds that it would violate the community’s “longstanding” policy that only allows cohabitation among parent-child relationships, siblings, or marriages of one man and one woman. So Walsh and Nance have filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern ...

Nun celebrates her Catholic schools’ leadership in allowing transgender students

Image
While controversy still swirls over a  contentious new program  to admit "transgender" students to Catholic schools , a nun who serves as the superintendent is touting the process as putting the diocese "in the lead."  Jefferson City is “a pioneer among other U.S. dioceses ,” the LGBT blog Proud Parenting says, citing the controversial “ Pastoral Process of Accompaniment and Dialogue .” The LGBT blog pulled from a  Jefferson City News Tribune   report  over the weekend that said the superintendent of schools,  Sister Elizabeth Youngs , viewed the diocese as a forerunner among other U.S. dioceses because of the accompaniment and dialogue program. Critics of the process  say it was crafted clandestinely and that neither parents nor priests in charge of parishes with schools were consulted. They say as well that it pushes gender ideology, upends Christian morality , scandalizes children in diocesan schools, and makes the dioce...

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Planned Parenthood took advantage of Mother’s Day to promote the antithesis of empowered motherhood : abortion . On its Twitter account, the nation’s largest abortion provider celebrated abortion and gender fluidity on the holiday dedicated to honoring mothers and the sacrifices they make for their children: “Planned Parenthood works every day to promote healthy, planned motherhood all over the world, and to support moms of all ages, races, and walks of life,” the abortion giant posted on Facebook .  “We wish you a Happy Mother's Day!” According to its   own annual report , Planned Parenthood ripped 323,999 children out of their mothers’ wombs during the fiscal year 2014-2015.  Planned Parenthood’s work promoting “healthy, planned motherhood all over the world” includes supplying to women hormonal birth control that...

Oregon judge hit with ethics probe after refusing to do gay ‘marriages’

Image
An ethics investigation has been launched against an Oregon judge who ordered his staff to recommend same-sex " marriage " requests to other judges, even though he isn't required to perform the ceremonies. On Thursday, Judge Vance Day’s spokesperson, Patrick Korten, confirmed that Day was being investigated by the Oregon Commission on Judicial Fitness because of his opposition to redefining marriage. While Day has never performed a same-sex "marriage" in his four years on the bench, it was only this past spring that he told his staff to recommend other judges to same-sex couples that request him to oversee "marriage" ceremonies. In 2014, Day decided to stop doing weddings at all, except for one in March of this year that had been previously scheduled, according to Korten. "He made a decision nearly a year ago to stop doing weddings altogether, and the principal factor that he weighed was the pressure that one would face to perform a sam...

Most Missouri county clerks refuse to issue same-sex ‘marriage’ licenses despite court order

Image
A Missouri judge has ruled a state law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples unconstitutional, but most county clerks are refusing to fall in line. In a ruling Wednesday, Judge Rex Burlison ordered Missouri to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, saying that to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman is a violation of homosexuals’ constitutional rights. "Any same-sex couple that satisfies all the requirements for marriage under Missouri law, other than being of different sexes, is legally entitled to a marriage license," wrote Burlison, a St. Louis circuit judge. But state Attorney General Chris Koster , who is appealing the ruling, said the decision only applies to the city of St. Louis, and most county clerks are following his lead. Officials in Adair, Boone, Buchanan, Cape Girardeau , Clay, Cole, Greene, Jackson, Johnson, Marion, Miller, Osage, Jasper and St. Charles counties are all refusing to issue licenses to same-se...

Missouri governor faces impeachment over pro-gay ‘marriage’ executive order

Image
JEFFERSON CITY, MO , April 25, 2014 -- Republicans in the Missouri State House have brought three charges of impeachment against Democratic Governor Jay Nixon . The main charge relates to an Executive Order by Nixon that allows same-sex couples who "marry" in other states to file tax returns jointly in the state. Nixon said he was forced to make the decision because of how the state and federal tax codes are linked, but Republicans say it violates the state's voter-approved constitutional amendment banning same-sex "marriage." Jay Nixon at a 2008 rally "This is such a blatant and serious violation of Missouri's constitution and Missouri law that the governor should be removed from office,"  said Republican legislator Nick Marshall . The Executive Order  came after   the Supreme Court declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. One of the other resolutions relates to Nixon not calling for special elections fast enough for...

Ken Cuccinelli protects marriage in Virginia, says gays ‘married’ out-of-state file taxes as single

RICHMOND, VA , December 5, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Homosexual couples who “marry” outside of Virginia will still be treated as singles by state tax officials, state officials say. The decision was made after state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli ’s office pointed out that the ruling did not apply to individual states. As a result, homosexual couples living in Virginia who choose to ‘marry’ out-of-state will face inconvenience and a higher bill come tax time. The Virginia Department of Taxation issued a  bulletin  last month explaining the differences between federal and state tax laws and providing “married” homosexual couples with instructions on how to file their state taxes. The bulletin explains that while the state had historically defaulted to the federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) definition of marriage for tax calculation purposes, it can no longer do so because Virginia’s constitution was amended in 2007 to specifically block the state governme...
