Pro-homosexual Fr. Martin should not be in ‘position of responsibility’: evangelical bible scholar

Image
Evangelical Bible and homosexuality scholar   Robert Gagnon   adds his voice to the widespread Catholic criticism of Vatican communications consultant Fr. James Martin over Martin's pro-LGBT advocacy. In April,   Pope Francis appointed   the socially “progressive” priest consultor to the Vatican’s Secretariat for Communication. Gagnon, author of " The Bible and Homosexual Practice : Texts and Hermeneutics," said   Martin , editor-at-large at   America   magazine, “has no business being in a position of responsibility in the Catholic Church .” He was reacting to Martin’s interview last week with a   San Francisco “gay” newspaper,   Bay Area Reporter , in which he claimed that among the reasons that people have reacted “viciously” to his   “bridge-building” efforts   toward homosexuals is that they have “visceral disgust at same-sex relations” or “hatred of LGBT people .” The most important reason, Martin said, is that his...

Some assert Apostle Paul's prohibitions on homosexuality are abusive homosexual relationships not consensual same-sex relationships?

Image
Question: Some scholars have asserted that Paul's writings about homosexuality are actually about abusive homosexual relationships (i.e., rape, prostitution, etc.). Isn't it the case that what Paul says does not apply to consensual same-sex relationships ? Due to the work of Robert Gagnon and many other biblical scholars, we know that this was not the case.' Secular historians of the Roman Empire also record clear examples of consensual, adult same-sex relationships in the Greco-Roman world . Paul knew exactly what he was condemning . Christians need to remember, given the doctrine of the divine inspiration of Scripture , that when Paul condemns something, the Holy Spirit condemns it as well. When we cite Paul, we cite the Holy Spirit.  Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 5 present a very sophisticated argument for the sinfulness of same-sex acts and same-sex relationships. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul demonstrates an undeniable belief in the sinfulness of both the passive...

U.S. Bishop: No funerals, Communion for people in same-sex ‘marriages’

Image
Those in same-sex "marriages" shouldn't present themselves to or be admitted to Holy Communion , nor may they receive a Catholic funeral if they died without showing signs of repentence, Illinois Bishop Thomas Paprocki says. Paprocki is the Catholic bishop of Springfield, Illinois and well-known to the pro-life and pro-family movements for his defense of Catholic orthodoxy and morality. On June 12, Paprocki signed a " Decree Regarding Same-Sex 'Marriage' and Related Pastoral Issues ." It was sent to priests and diocesan staff last week and subsequently leaked to media sympathetic with the homosexual cause.  "The Church has not only the authority, but the serious obligation, to affirm its authentic teaching on marriage and to preserve and foster the sacred value of the married state," Paprocki explained after reminding his flock of "the clear and consistent teaching of the Catholic Church since her founding by Our Lord Jesus C...

LGBT people are in desperate need of truth. I was one of them

Image
LGBT people are starved of the truth of the Gospel in today’s world. I should know. I was one of them.   I divorced my wife, left the Church and lived as a gay man for more than a decade. I even  publicly promoted same-sex marriage . Since then, attracted first by the irresistible pull of natural law and then the Gospel, I have returned to my wife, pulled our family back together, returned to full communion with the Catholic Church and am now a marriage, family, and children's rights activist. Increasing numbers in the church think it is a kindness to refrain from speaking truthfully to the same-sex attracted and gender-challenged. This is a dangerous untruth, jeopardizing millions of lives. Cardinal Sarah  recently made an impassioned plea to his brother priests and bishops to stop depriving the same-sex attracted from the ‘hard parts of the Gospel’ and to instead lavish us with its life-giving truth that we too might live in freedom as sons and daughter o...

Are Italy’s earthquakes divine retribution for approving gay unions?

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A dispute has arisen in Italy following a comment made on Radio Maria by Father Giovanni Cavalcoli, a respected and accomplished Dominican theologian, who said the devastating earthquakes that have struck central Italy this year are God ’s punishment for the country legalizing homosexual unions in July. “Let’s call it divine punishment,” Father Cavalcoli said, according to Italian media (his precise remarks are more moderate when put in context, see below). Last Sunday, a massive 6.6-magnitude earthquake destroye...

Pope warns of 'ideological colonization' in transgender teachings

Image
Pope Francis reaffirmed his disagreement with teaching gender identity in schools on Sunday, after earlier calling it a "war against marriage." On a return flight to Rome at the end of a three-day trip to Georgia and Azerbaijan , the Pope recounted a meeting with a French father whose young son wanted to be a girl after reading about it in a textbook. "This is against nature," he said. "It is one thing when someone has this tendency ... and it is another matter to teach this in school." "To change the mentality -- I call this ideological colonization," the Pope said. The Pope said he still spends time with transgender people, leading them closer to God. In August , the Pope called the teaching of gender identity theory "terrible." "Today, in schools they are teaching this to children -- to children! -- that everyone can choose their gender," Pope Francis said. New Ways Ministry , a Catholic LGBT advocacy group, c...

Same-Sex civil unions in Italy: Historical betrayal by Catholic politicians

Image
The approval of homosexual pseudo-marriage in the Senate on February 25th 2016, with 173 in favor, 71 against and 76 abstentions is the last stage in the process of dissolution of Italian society which began with the introduction of divorce (1970), then the legalization of abortion (1978) and has as its next, imminent step, the legalization of euthanasia. With that in mind, we understand the exaltation of the secular press: “In the long and tortuous history of sexual liberation in Italy – writes Francesco Merlo in “ La Repubblica ”, February 26th – this law has the same epochal importance as the law on divorce and the law that regulates abortion”. What these three events have in common is an act of betrayal committed by men in Catholic government. Divorce passed under a centre-left government presided over by the Christian Democrat , Emilio Colombo . Abortion was passed by a Christian Democrat government, presided over by Giulio Andreotti . The Christian Democrats were brought...
