Did Bible times know of homosexual orientation?

Image
If ancient peoples, including the Jews , did not know about people born with a homosexual orientation or couples who mutually commit to one another, should their uninformed negative judgments prevail in contemporary society ? The Revisionist Answer The existence of mutual, respectful, permanent homosexual or lesbian relationships where love prevails was unknown in the past. Ancient disapproval of homosexuality concerns homosexual rape, pederasty, or other aggressive forms that most homosexuals also condemn. It is inappropriate to carry over this situation to address the kind of homosexual living taking place today. The Biblical Answer Ancient writings show considerable knowledge of committed homosexual relationships. Probably these peoples knew of respect, mutuality, and love experienced in some homosexual relationships. Symposium of Plato and other sources discusses these matters in a very positive light. Surely, many Greeks and Romans probably lived this way. However,...

Bathrooms are just the beginning: a scary look into the trans movement’s end goals

Image
The battle over men accessing women’s bathrooms and vice versa has little do with bathrooms or even transgenderism, a well-known LGBT activist admitted last week.  It has everything to do with re-working society and getting rid of the “heterobinary structure” in which we live—eliminating distinctions between “male” and “female” altogether. Riki Wilchins , who has undergone “sex change” surgery and is a far-left social change activist, wrote in the gay publication   The Advocate   last week that social conservatives and many LGBT activists are missing the point when it comes to the transgender bathroom debate. The title of Wilchins' article makes the points succinctly: "We'll Win the Bathroom Battle When the Binary Burns." People should be able to enter whatever bathroom “fits their gender identity ,” Wilchins wrote, but the fact that we even have “male” and “female” bathrooms reflects something about society that needs to change.  There are many “gende...

What should someone who has an ongoing, seemingly unchanged pattem of same-sex attraction do in obedience to Christ?

Image
That Christian must, by the authority of Scripture and in obedience to the gospel, submit everything she or  he is to Christ . For someone who has an ongoing, seemingly unchanged, and perhaps unchangeable (in this life) pattern of same-sex attraction , the call to holiness would appear, in most cases, to be a call to celibacy .  In all cases, it would be a call to avoid sexual sin and any celebration of a sexual orientation that disobeys God and his Word. No escape from same-sex attraction may come. Thus, celibacy, honored by Christ himself and regarded by the apostle Paul, would appear to be the requirement of faithfulness and obedience. The Christian church has failed in not affirming the gift of celibacy. It has failed to show how the gift of celibacy reflects obedience to Christ and the glory of God. The Christian church has also failed to honor those who give themselves to lives of celibacy for the sake of the gospel, a lifestyle Paul commended for its ad...

Same-Sex Marriage Supreme Court Decision

Image
As a Christian how are we to think about this? To be honest, this decision did not surprise me, but I was disappointed. I had held out some hope that the constitution and not the winds of public opinion would win the day. But that was not to be. 3 Quick Observations About The Same-Sex Marriage Supreme Court Decision 1) The world has not ended, but make no mistake this will have significant cultural impact. There are 2 sides of this balance beam we can’t afford to fall off of. First, we need to remember that Christianity is still true, regardless of what is going on in a particular cultural moment. Our hope is fixed in Christ , not a cultural majority. We have an opportunity to love and engage. Let’s not miss that. The other way not to react to this news is to say it won’t effect me and my marriage and everything will continue on as it has. That is not true. And that will become more painfully evident in the days ahead–especially for children. 2) Whatever your views on same-s...

Just ask Michael Sam, a top college football player who wasn't quite good enough to make the cut in this year's NFL season,  but was good, or famous, or famously gay, or  something  enough, to be  GQ's Man of the Year : The athlete won the award despite having not yet played an on-season game in the NFL. He was cut from the Rams squad in August, but was later picked for a Dallas Cowboys practice team, only to be dropped again in October.  When asked by  TMZ  why he thought he was not on the roster of an NFL team, Sam said; 'I t...

Notre Dame’s ‘Gay in Christ’ Conference aims for fidelity, but speakers embrace ‘gay identity’

Image
University of Notre Dame (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A conference today at the University of Notre Dame will address “a pastoral strategy for parishes to be able to receive the gifts of self-identified gay Catholics ,” while remaining faithful to Catholic teaching on marriage and sexuality—but some speakers’ perspectives on “gay identity” may fall short of true orthodoxy. “ Gay in Christ: Dimensions of Fidelity ” is co-sponsored by Notre Dame’s  Institute for Church Life  ( ICL ) and the  Gender Relations Center . ICL director Dr. John Cavadini poses the following question on the University’s website: “Can Church teaching support an ‘exchange of gifts,’ enabling a parish community to receive the gifts that such people bring to us, and, in turn, to make the gifts of ecclesial belonging more securely and fruitfully available to these Catholics?” Notre Dame indicates that many of the slated speakers for the conference are “self-identified gay Catholics” who observ...

‘Awesomely gay’: Writer says he uses ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ to normalize promiscuous sodomy

(Note: The following piece contains spoilers for  How to Get Away With Murder .) Warning: Keep your kids away from ABC on Thursday nights at 10. Shonda Rhimes has created yet another raunchfest of a show, this one a “legal procedural” show called  How to Get Away With Murder. I put “legal procedural” quotes because anyone who’s watched a single episode of Rhimes’ long-running nighttime soap opera  Grey’s Anatomy  knows the medical setting is mostly a backdrop for exploring the convoluted sex lives of a group of total neurotics who happen to be surgeons. The same appears to be the case with Murder , which focuses extensively on the numerous sexual entanglements between the show’s sprawling ensemble cast – with a special and unusually explicit focus on homosexual relations. First, the basics: Just as  Grey’s Anatomy  started with a group of five attractive young first-year residents thrown into the deep end at a major teaching hospital,  Murder...

Idaho ministers face fines, jail time for refusing to perform same-sex ‘marriages’

Ministers in the state of Idaho are facing fines and potential jail time for refusing to perform same-sex “marriages,” even though homosexuality violates their religion. In 2013, the Idaho city of Coeur D'Alene passed a law that forces all businesses to consider homosexuals the same as racial minorities when it comes to housing, employment, and "public accommodation," regardless of religious beliefs. Religious institutions are exempt from the ordinance – but according to the city, the ministers who run The Hitching Post, a wedding chapel, do not qualify for an exemption because their business operates for profit. The battle came to a head earlier this year, after Idaho's marriage law was overturned by a federal court. At the time, a deputy attorney for the city said that The Hitching Post would have to follow the ordinance because it charges what the  Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)   calls  "a small fee" to conduct the ceremony and provide marriage...

Ex-gay man: ‘Homosexuality is just another human brokenness’

Image
Dean Bailey , 50, is not afraid to tell anyone he is living proof that ‘ sexual orientation’ can in fact be changed. But he prefers to use the word ‘restored’ rather than ‘changed.’ Bailey remembers how from an early age he felt different from other boys. He felt he did not fit in and thought of himself as awkward, out of place. He remembers never feeling treasured or affirmed by his dad who was an alcoholic and who consumed pornography. Bailey believes this began a pattern of turning to other males to find the affirmation he never received from his dad. When a new outgoing boy began to attend school when Bailey was in grade three, he remembers trying hard to become the boy’s friend. It was during a sleepover at the boy’s house that Bailey was introduced to sexual play, including streaking and oral copulation . The experience not only robbed him of his childhood innocence, but awakened in him a sense of sexual curiosity. From here, Bailey became preoccupied with images of male...
