Lesbian couple sues Christian retirement community for denying housing application

Image
A “married” lesbian couple is taking a Christian retirement community to court over its requirement that prospective residents abide by Christian moral principles. Friendship Village is a non-profit retirement community “guided by Biblical values” that holds “Faithful Service” as one of its core values, according to its website. Despite the Bible’s unambiguous teachings on homosexuality, Mary Walsh and Bev Nance of Shrewsbury applied in 2016 to move to Friendship Village, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports . Walsh and Nance have been together for 37 years and got “married” in Massachusetts in 2009. After they paid a $2,000 deposit and got placed on a waiting list, they say Friendship Village rejected their application on the grounds that it would violate the community’s “longstanding” policy that only allows cohabitation among parent-child relationships, siblings, or marriages of one man and one woman. So Walsh and Nance have filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern ...

Gay man sues IRS for $36k tax deduction for cost of IVF, surrogate: IRS rejects

Image
Is the procreative impossibility of homosexual activity the same as heterosexuals being biologically infertile?  Stetson University law professor Joseph Morrissey is suing for a tax deduction of $36,538 for in vitro fertilization treatments and the cost of a surrogate to carry twin boys for himself and his male partner. In denying Morrissey's claim, the IRS explained that for tax deductions, the medical services must be provided to the taxpayer, his spouse, or his dependent. Therefore, a surrogate does not qualify, and neither does IVF for someone other than the filer, his spouse, or his dependent. What Morrissey is focusing on, however, is the words of the IRS agent who turned down his IVF tax deduction. The IRS agent noted that Morrissey's sexual orientation is a "choice." Morrissey's lawsuit states, "Despite the IRS's backward and archaic thinking, plaintiff is not homosexual by 'choice.'" Morrissey claims that the pro...

Gay activists urge UN to declare ‘reparative therapy’ a form of torture

Water torture being executed in Sing Sing prison in 1860. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) American activists against “ reparative therapy ” asked the UN Committee on Torture to define the practice as a form of torture and a violation of international law. At issue is the treatment sought by persons who struggle with unwanted same-sex desires. Many therapists still offer the treatment to those who ask for it, even though professional organizations for the therapeutic community say same-sex desire is not a form of mental illness and discourage this kind of therapy. Christians simply states: this locks people into sin. There is a movement in the United States to ban all such therapy by law. Already, New Jersey and California have banned reparative therapy for minors and the National Center for Lesbian Rights is campaigning for a nationwide ban in the next five years. It was this group that went to Geneva this week. The UN Committee on Torture is a treaty monitoring body that overs...

New Mexico Supreme Court legalizes same-sex ‘marriage’

Image
ALBUQUERQUE , December 19, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The Supreme Court of New Mexico ruled that the state must recognize same-sex “marriages,” because a ban would violate a 1972 constitutional amendment banning discrimination "on account of the sex of any person." Justice Edward L. Chavez wrote that, due to homosexuals' special status as a minority community, “New Mexico may [not] constitutionally deny same-gender couples the right to marry...unless the proponents of the legislation — the opponents of same-gender marriage — prove that the discrimination caused by the legislation is 'substantially related to an important government interest.'” Chavez authored the  31-page decision  expressing the unanimous ruling of the five-member court. Justices rejected the notion that the government had a vested interest in the conception and raising of children. “Procreation has never been a condition of marriage under New Mexico law, as evidenced by the fact that ...

SAN PABLO, CA, December 10, 2012, – Gabrielle Ludwig is not like any other woman on the basketball courts, or in the locker rooms , in Santa Clara Community College’s junior team. Gabrielle is a foot taller than every other player and has significantly more upper body strength. Thats because the 50-year-old player was born  Robert John Ludwig,  a man. He still bears the tattoos of his service in Operation Desert Storm . This turn at college basketball is his second. His first stint in 1980 was as a man at Nassau Community College . Robert John "Gabrielle" Ludwig with his teammates. After his sex change operation this summer he petitioned to change his birth certificate’s sex from male to female. That edit allowed his previous sports history to be wiped off his record. Ludwig is now eligible to play for two full years. Even at twice his opponents’ age, Ludwig cuts an imposing figure at 6’8” and 220 pounds, a fact not lost on his coach – or ...
