5 reasons why marriage still matters to you

Image
A small group of USA judges took it upon themselves to redefine historic marriage on behalf of millions of people. Whu gave them that right?  In light of these developments, many Christians are wondering if the struggle to preserve marriage is worth it.  “What’s the use?” they ask.  If you’re wondering why this battle is still important, here are five reasons why marriage still matters – and why it matters to you: 1. Marriage as defined by God has not changed.  Ideologies come and go.  Cultural customs can – and do – change.  Societies can decline and descend into depravity.  As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reminded us, “Societies can rot as well as ripen.”  But God’s Truth and God’s standard remain unchanged. 2. If same-sex “marriage” is now legalized, the religious freedom of your church and your pastor is threatened.  We have seen this in other countries that are further down the road to redefining marri...

Why Should We Care about the Definition of Marriage?

Image
With the overturning of Proposition 8 in California last August and New York becoming the sixth state to legalize homosexual “marriage” at the end of last month, the need is made increasingly apparent for Christians to continue to lovingly and resolutely declare God ’s design for marriage. That need only grows greater as this week President Obama publicly endorsed the “Respect for Marriage Act.” This bill would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 , “which instructs states not to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states and…prohibits the federal government from recognizing legally performed same-sex marriages.” Now, I’m not at all talking about politicking, putting our hope in government, or going all chicken-little about the moral failure of our country. God is sovereign, and our hope is in Christ alone. But I am talking about speaking God’s Word into the situations He places you in. It’s likely that as you seek to be a good steward of the Truth of God that h...

Gay advocates target Mozilla Brendan Eich but not Barack Obama?

Image
US President Barack Obama was not targeted like Mozilla' Brendan Eich (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) “Opposing gay marriage today is not akin to opposing tax hikes or even the war in Afghanistan,” wrote Will Oremus , Slate’s senior tech writer in an altogether typical op-ed applauding the sacking of the “bigoted” Brendan Eich for his support of traditional marriage . “It’s more akin to opposing interracial marriage: It bespeaks a conviction that some people do not deserve the same basic rights as others.” Eich could not grovel quite enough to keep his job as CEO of Mozilla , a software enterprise best known for producing the Firefox web browser . He resigned under pressure after “marriage equality” activists revealed that Eich had donated $1,000 to the 2008 Proposition 8 campaign in California. Proposition 8, which passed with more than 52 percent of the vote, amended the California constitution to read, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in ...

Homosexuals don't want marriage: just a symbol to make them look equal

Image
Gay Couple with child (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Whatever same-sex marriage is, that’s not what gays are after. They are after a symbolic vehicle that can make them equal to people who can do something they cannot—procreate. The briefs filed in Hollingsworth v. Perry , the Supreme Court case on California's Proposition 8 , reveal something odd. Much of the debate over same-sex marriage has been a fight over metaphors. Can a same-sex couple mean the same thing as a man and a woman, even if the body parts are not identical? Can domestic partnerships mean “separate but equal” and embody a new Plessy v. Ferguson ? Is Proposition 8 analogous to “separate but equal”? Is gay the new black? Is California of 2008 a metonym for Virginia in the Loving case? Are gay couples the same thing as infertile straight couples? Is homophobia like Jim Crow? Humbug. Since California has domestic partnerships with all the same legal benefits as marriage for same-sex couples, the material difference ...

Mozilla Bullies and the agressive gay agenda

The  Mozilla controversy  continues to draw commentary and attention around the web and throughout the media. Predictably, all this activity calls for setting the record straight on some points of misinformation, just as the always-stilted media narrative demands balance from the voices that you won't see on the late night talk shows. The Devil is in the (Misremembered) Details At  Slate  last Friday, columnist Mark Joseph Stern — who "covers science, the law, and LGBTQ issues" —  writes about Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich's resignation and the Proposition 8 campaign , in an article that undoubtedly deals with LGBTQ issues but seems uninformed by science and misinformed about the law. The article is also fast and loose with the facts about the campaign to which Mr. Eich donated $1,000.00 in 2008. Stern's piece — entitled " Just a Reminder: The Campaign for Prop 8 Was Unprecedentedly Cruel " — bears this central thesis: [I]t's easy to forget t...
