The crowd was protesting a proposed law that would allow same-sex couples to ‘marry’ and adopt  "God created human beings as male and female. Only the union of a man and a woman can create the next generation, and the ability to create offspring is an important function of a family," said 40-year-old Ann Huang, who joined the rally with her friends,  reported   Focus Taiwan .  The protesters, consisting mainly of families with their children, held signs that read "Made by Daddy and Mommy”, "Defend Marriage”, and "Oppose Amendment to Civil Code Article 972”, the current law which holds that marriage is between a man and woman.   The event was organized by The Coalition for the Happiness of Our Next Generation.   “We worry that this alternative family formation idea will confuse children's concepts on education an...

United Kingdom: Conservative MP Suggests Churches Who Marry Straight Couples Must Also Perform Partnership Ceremonies

Image
Image via Wikipedia Mike Weatherley , the Conservative MP for Hove , has called for churches to be banned from holding marriages if they refuse to perform civil partnerships for gay couples. He says that the idea will bring more equality for gay couples. In a letter to prime minister David Cameron , Mr Weatherley wrote: “As long as religious groups can refuse to preside over ceremonies for same-sex couples there will be inequality. “Such behaviour is not be tolerated in other areas, such as adoption, after all. Democrats See Republican Hand In Gay Marriage Stumbles

Image
Image via Wikipedia Gay marriage advocates hope to regain their momentum in Albany this week after a series of hard knocks, but some of their allies have begun to wonder whether the string of bad news was more than just coincidence. They are looking for signs of a coordinated effort behind their recent setbacks, which have seemingly trimmed the chances that any Republican senators might break ranks and join with Democrats to pass a same-sex marriage bill before the session ends June 20. Mark Grisanti and Andrew Lanza — Republican senators considered potential swing votes — said last week they remain opposed. Brooklyn GOP Senator Marty Golden introduced an anti- gay-marriage bill just two days after his ally, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, trekked to Albany to lobby for Republican support for marriage. And Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long said opposing gay marriage will be a litmus test for the party’s endorsement in 2012. “This is not a coincidence. This is the Senate Republican...

To vote or not to vote on gay ‘marriage’? New York’s GOP Senators may decide Wednesday

Image
Image via Wikipedia Senate Republicans in New York continue to remain silent about whether they will kill the same-sex “marriage” bill, or pass an amended version with more religious protections before going into summer recess. Since Republicans control the Senate chambers 32 – 30, they can block the legislation from coming to a floor vote, but they are staying tight-lipped about their intentions, leaving both friends and foes of gay “marriage” sitting on pins and needles. The Democrat -dominated Assembly already approved legalizing same-sex “marriage” last Wednesday, in an 80 – 63 vote. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Lt. Gov. Bob Duffy, both Democrats, have exerted enormous personal pressure on Democrats and Republicans in the Senate to pass the same-sex “marriage” bill. Already those efforts have yielded success as two Republicans, Sens. Jim Alesi of Monroe County, and Roy MacDonald of Saratoga County, have joined the Democrat caucus to support same-sex “marriage,” putting the balance o...

Gay ‘marriage’ passes in New York Assembly - Senate vote next

Image
Image via Wikipedia The fate of true marriage in New York now depends on Senate Republicans after the Democrat -controlled Assembly voted to extend the legal definition of marriage to include same-sex couples. The Assembly voted Wednesday evening 80 – 63 to legalize same-sex “marriage.” Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo has campaigned heavily for the bill along with Lt. Gov. Bob Duffy , meeting with Democrats and Republicans in the Senate to secure their support. Already two Republicans, Sens. Jim Alesi (Rochester) and Roy MacDonald (Saratoga Springs), have switched their votes from “no” to “yes” on same-sex “marriage.”  Alesi has claimed that he only cast his vote against gay “marriage” in 2009 as a political move, to help Republicans reclaim the chamber in 2010. An unofficial vote count has the Senate split 31 – 31. If that count is accurate and the GOP allows the bill to come to the floor, then the tie-breaking vote would fall to Duffy as lieutenant governor, resulting in the bi...

Britain finds cross-party support for decriminalizing saying ‘homosexuality is sinful’

Image
When Dale Mcalpine was arrested and charged for saying that homosexual activity is sinful in April last year, the charges  were eventually dropped , but the Christian street preacher called for changes to the law that would make it possible to express religious opinion out loud in Britain without fear of arrest and prosecution. Now there is a cross-party support for a change in the law that would remove a single word from the Public Order Act 1986 that has allowed Christians to be arrested when they offend the sensibilities of homosexual activists. The amendment, that proposes to remove the word “insulting” from Section 5 of the Act, was tabled by Conservative MP Edward Leigh and is backed by the Liberal Democrat president, Tim Farron , and the Labour party’s Tom Watson, a former Government Minister . Six more MPs from across the parties have signed. As with many recently installed “hate speech” laws around the western world, the act of saying something that could be dee...

Pro-life leader-designate of B.C. Tories explains opposition to gay anti-discrimination legislation

Image
Image via Wikipedia Long-time pro-life Member of Parliament John Cummins , now the leader-designate of British Columbia ’s Conservative Party, sparked a media frenzy this week after insisting that those inclined to homosexuality be given the same rights as the rest of Canadians, and no more. Cummins told a Victoria radio station Wednesday that he voted against the 1996 bill that added “sexual orientation” as a ground for discrimination to the Canada Human Rights Act because homosexuals are already protected from discrimination, just like all Canadians. “People are already protected under the human rights code. In my view it was not necessary to add another category,” Cummins told CFAX radio.  “They have the same rights under the Human Rights Act as you and I. Nobody is coming to me and saying whatever I do behind closed doors is somebody else’s business.” “I’m not a scientist [but] some of the research tells me that there’s more of an indication that that’s a choice issue,” ...
