North Carolina gov. sues Obama admin in response to threat over transgender restrooms

Image
The governor of North Carolina has defied the Obama administration , asking a judge to dismiss all legal threats against his state for enacting a law that allows public accommodations to determine their own restroom policies. “The Obama administration is bypassing Congress by attempting to rewrite the law and set restroom policies for public and private employers across the country, not just North Carolina,” said Governor Pat McCrory , a Republican. “They are now telling every government agency and every company that employs more than 15 people that men should be allowed to use a women’s locker room, restroom or shower facility.” The new litigation comes the day that the Justice Department set as a deadline for state officials to back down and tell the Obama administration “that the state will not comply with or implement H.B. 2,” the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act. After the city of Charlotte passed an ordinance requiring all public businesses to allow transge...

Tens of thousands take to street in Mexican cities to protest gay ‘marriage’ decision

Image
Tens of thousands took to the streets of major Mexican cities under the slogan “ Mexico is One for the Children,” to ask the government to respect state constitutions that define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, after a recent Supreme Court ruling legalized same-sex unions throughout the country. “We are not against any person, we are against this Supreme Court imposition,” said Sofia Miranda, one of the organizers, in an open letter to media who were criticizing the cause. This, she continued, “opens the door to gender ideology and will destabilize our society and damage our children. This is what we don’t want.” Marchers were also asking their parental rights be recognized, as Congress is seeking to pass a national law which will “guarantee the access to contraceptive methods” without parental consent to all girls.  The law also states all children have a “right to intimacy,” they should not be discriminated against on the basis of their “sexual pref...

Colombian Senate overwhelmingly rejects homosexual ‘marriage’

Image
English: The President Santos entering to the pentagon, when he was minister of defense of Colombia (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Senate of Colombia voted down a bill to create homosexual "marriage" yesterday by an overwhelming majority of 51-17, with 32 senators either not present or abstaining. The defeat of the bill means that it will not pass to the lower Chamber of Deputies , and is effectively dead.  However, the country is rapidly approaching a deadline set by the Constitutional Court in a July 2011 ruling requiring homosexual couples to be given benefits similar to those associated with marriage. The defeat followed days of growing protests outside of the Senate building, with demonstrators chanting "I won't shut up, I won't shut up, marriage is between a man and a woman!" "The bill sank because it is not of general interest.  Heterosexual marriage is of public interest because it has to do with procreation and the conservatio...

Marriage being tested in court again

Image
Just yesterday, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston declared that part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. The federal definition of marriage as being the union of one man and one woman has applied to all federal laws, regulations and benefits since 1996. This lawsuit involves claims from same-sex couples demanding federal benefits that are reserved for heterosexual couples. Essentially, the appellate court said the federal government—and by extension, the taxpayers in all 50 states—must subsidize whatever types of arrangements a state may choose to call "marriage." Think about that for minute. In the 1800s, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the right of Congress to forbid polygamy in any territory wishing to apply for statehood. But the federal appeals court in Boston today ignored that history and declared Congress has no interest in keeping the definition of marriage the same as it has been for thousands of years. The U.S. ...

New queer gender bill

Image
Image via Wikipedia A bill that would add “sexual orientation” and “ gender identity ” as prohibited grounds of discrimination in the workplace is due to be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, although its primary supporter doubts the latest attempt will succeed. Rep. Barney Frank (D- MA ) has said he will reintroduce the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) this week, a measure that has been introduced in every Congress but one since 1994, consistently failing to gather enough support for passage. Frank himself was less than optimistic regarding the bill’s chances, telling the gay news service Metro Weekly that the current Republican majority would undoubtedly kill the measure. “It’s an organizing tool. Obviously, with the Republicans in power, you’re not going to get the bill even considered,” said Frank. Frank nonetheless said he would be working to build consensus behind the measure’s protection of “transgender” individuals, a provision that...

The Bible and Homosexuality

Image
Image via Wikipedia Summary The gay rights movement does not just want the right to privacy and to be left alone. Attempting to promote their cause as a civil rights instead of as a moral issue, they want special legal protection for, and cultural acceptance of, their lifestyle. Even many Christian churches have condoned or are sympathetic to homosexuality, ignoring the Bible's teachings concerning our sexuality. In the Old Testament we find heterosexuality to be proclaimed as God's natural order of creation, a teaching Jesus upheld in the New Testament. Biblically, homosexuality is described as both an "abomination" and "unnatural." God calls us to reject sin, but to love and value all people. How can anyone dare to speak out against another person's lifestyle? Especially within the church, are not Christians called to be loving and inclusive? Does not the Bible itself tell us that we are to reach out to people instead of being judgmental and self-...
