Obama’s policies are ‘progressively more hostile toward Christian civilization’

Image
ROME, March 20, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – President Obama’s policies “have become progressively more hostile toward Christian civilization,” said American Cardinal Raymond Burke in an interview published in English exclusively  by LifeSiteNews today. Burke did not mince words in responding to a question about the Catholic reaction to President Obama’s attack on religious freedom , especially through policies such as the controversial HHS mandate . “He appears to be a totally secularized man who aggressively promotes anti-life and anti-family policies,” said Burke. “Now he wants to restrict the exercise of the freedom of religion to freedom of worship, that is, he holds that one is free to act according to his conscience within the confines of his place of worship but that, once the person leaves the place of worship, the government can constrain him to act against his rightly-formed conscience, even in the most serious of moral questions.” The wide-ranging interv...

Vienna Cardinal: Same-sex relationships need ‘civil law protection’

Image
VIENNA, April 12, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna is expressing openness to legal recognition of homosexual unions, appearing to put him at odds with Magisterial teaching. In a talk at Britain’s National Gallery on Monday, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn defended the traditional definition of marriage, but urged “respect” for same-sex relationships, reports the UK Catholic paper  The Tablet . Cardinal Christoph Schönborn "There can be same-sex partnerships and they need respect, and even civil law protection,” he said, according to the paper. “Yes, but please keep it away from the notion of marriage. Because the definition of marriage is the stable union between a man and a woman open to life.” "We should be clear about terms and respect the needs of people living in a partnership together. They deserve respect," the Cardinal added. Cardinal Schönborn has made similar comments in the past, as for example in 2010, when he  ...

Homosexual activists excited by softer tone of U.S. cardinals

Image
ROME, April 4, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Experts say, despite an apparently softer tone on homosexuals from two leading American cardinals, the Roman Catholic Church will not and cannot shift its moral teaching on same-sex "marriage" or the grave sin of homosexual acts . Cardinals Timothy Dolan , the Archbishop of New York , and Donald Wuerl of Washington D.C., both said in separate interviews that the Church would not be altering its position on “gay marriage” but both are being praised by Terrence Weldon, a British homosexual activist and author of the ‘blog “Queering the Church”. Cardinal Donald Wuerl . In an interview with  This Week  on Easter Sunday , Dolan was asked what he would say to “a gay couple who told him: ‘We love God. We love the Church. But we also love each other, and we want to raise a family in faith.’” Dolan replied, “When it comes to sexual love, that is intended only for a man and woman in marriage, where children can come about natu...

Anger as UK homosexualists declare Edinburgh cardinal “bigot of the year”

Image
EDINBURGH, November 5, 2012 – Christian believers and others in Britain are expressing outrage after the country’s leading homosexualist lobby group declared the Cardinal Archbishop of Edinburgh, Keith O’Brien , “Bigot of the Year” for his opposition to “gay marriage”. While Stonewall and some others continue to defend the award category, even some of the group’s greatest supporters have criticized it, saying the designation damages their own cause. Gerald Warner , a Catholic journalist and sometime policy advisor to the Scottish Conservative party, called the award a sign that the homosexualist movement is sinking further into “homofascism”. He told LifeSiteNews.com, “How would the politically correct media respond if the most prominent Catholic pressure group in Britain last night voted Ben Summerskill, of Stonewall, ‘Weirdo of the Year’? We all know the answer. “So why is ‘hate speech,’ and even a hate award, acceptable, so long as it is directed against a Prince o...

Image
LYONS, September 20, 2012,  (LifeSiteNews.com ) –  Should France legalize same-sex “marriage”, there is little reason to think that legalised incest or polygamy will not be the next item on the list for the sexual revolutionaries, according to France’s senior Catholic prelate. Speaking to Catholic radio, RCF, the cardinal went on to caution, “Once it’s legalized, the consequences will be innumerable. They’ll want to create couples with three or four members. After that, perhaps one day, the taboo of incest will fall.” “The word ‘marriage’ means a rampart, designed to protect the most fragile place in society, where a woman gives birth to a child, so that all conditions are met for everything to go as well as possible”, explained the cardinal. Expanding on a phrase he used in August saying that “the Parliament is not God the Father”, Barbarin added: “For us, the first page of t...
