Chick-fil-A CEO: I still oppose gay ‘marriage’ but won’t be too vocal about it

Image
ATLANTA, GA , March 20, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – After two years of battering by homosexual activists and the mainstream media over his opposition to same-sex “marriage,” Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy says he remains committed to the Christian definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman, but has decided not to be vocal about it. “I think the time of truths and principles are captured and codified in God’s word and I’m just personally committed to that,” Cathy told the  Atlanta Journal-Constitution . “I know others feel very different from that and I respect their opinion and I hope that they would be respectful of mine.” Cathy, 61, set off a firestorm of controversy in 2012 with remarks to a Baptist publication in which he said he was “guilty as charged” for supporting the traditional family. “We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit,” Cathy  told  the  Baptist Press . “We are a family-own...

Traditional values pay: Chick-fil-A makes record-breaking profits after marriage controversy

ATLANTA,  – Chick-fil-A has learned upholding traditional values is not just good for the soul; it’s also good for business. Since President Dan Cathy stirred up a firestorm of controversy and protests by daring to say in public that he supports traditional marriage, the fast food chain has enjoyed record sales and increased brand recognition . A typical line on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, August 1. According to a report by  USA Today , consumer use, visits, and ad awareness all rose measurably in the third quarter, despite widespread negative media coverage of Cathy’s remarks to the  Baptist Press  opposing same-sex “marriage.” A Sandelman and Associates survey of more than 30,000 fast-food shoppers in markets where Chick-fil-A operates showed consumer use of the restaurant chain rose 2.2 percent in the third quarter compared with the same period in 2011. Can Cities Really Block Chick-fil-A?

Image
Chick-fil-A (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Attempts by Chicago and Boston politicians to block the opening of Chick-fil-A restaurants because of the company president's views on marriage would be unconstitutional and also set a dangerous precedent for other businesses, say several attorneys. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel each have been quoted as saying they want to prevent Chick-fil-As from opening in their cities, with Menino declaring in a letter to Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy, "There is no place for discrimination on Boston's Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it." The Freedom Trail is a path through the city's streets highlighting historic buildings. Emanuel voiced agreement with a Chicago alderman who also opposes a new Chick-fil-A, saying of the company, "They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents." Cathy, in two interviews in recent weeks—including one  re-posted on Baptist Press —has ...

‘Guilty as charged’: Chick-Fil-A owner stands by true marriage stance

Image
ATLANTA, Georgia , July 18, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The Baptist president of fast food chain Chick-Fil-A is facing renewed claims of “homophobia” after confirming his organization’s stance against same-sex “marriage.” “Guilty as charged,” Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press on Monday of his company’s support for the traditional family. Dan Cathy “We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business , a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that,” said Cathy, whose father started the business in 1946. Homosexual activists have been calling for boycotts against the chain, which operates 1,608 restaurants across the U.S. with annual sales last year in excess of $4 billion, because it has made substantial corporate donations to pro-family groups. Earlier this year, college activists launched a petition calling for the chain to be removed from campuses across the c...

California Gov. signs law mandating pro-gay curriculum

Image
Image via Wikipedia In a move that could have ramifications for curriculum across America , California governor Jerry Brown has signed controversial legislation mandating that public schools teach children about “the role and contributions of” homosexual American historical figures. The law also forbids materials that “contain any matter reflecting adversely” upon gays on the basis of sexual identification. Brown on Thursday signed into law SB 48, which is designed to take effect in January of next year, although the San Francisco Gate   notes  that the state’s fiscal crisis is so deep it will be unable to purchase the new texts until 2015 at the earliest. Pushed as an antidote to gay bullying in schools, the measure mandates textbooks to highlight homosexual persons and their activities in American history. It simultaneously reinforces a gag on religious doctrine , noting that “any sectarian or denominational doctrine or propaganda contrary to law” is forbidden. The te...
