Governement funded madness
A $10 million LGBTTIQA+ health grant by the Albanese Government, Australia, he says, will channel young people questioning their gender towards unproven medical intervention with irreversible effects, an evidence-based charity has warned.
On Monday, Health Minister Mark Butler announced an $18.1 million LGBTIQ+ health and well-being package, including $10 million to enable La Trobe University, trans lobby group ACON and Thorne Harbour Health to "establish a national voluntary training and accreditation scheme to support primary care givers and providers to deliver safe, inclusive and affirming care for LGBTIQABC+ people."
Genspect Australia, a charity, has sounded the alarm. Genspect promotes evidence-based care and the prevention of harm from gender-related medical intervention. They are concerned about the funding warning that controversial "affirming" model of treatment - including the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery when Mr Butler has acknowledged that gender medicine is contested and evolving.
The NHMRC review was commissioned by Mr Butler in January in the wake of the British Government banning puberty blockers in response to the Cass Review, which found "remarkedly weak" evidence for medical intervention.
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth is now funding the national rollout of primary care training and accreditation for the very model of care that is currently under review under NHMC review at the Minister's discretion.
There is a growing body of litigation brought by detransitioners who believed they were affirmed on medical pathways without adequate assessment of underlying comorbidities.
