Almost everything the media tell you about sexual orientation and Gender Identity is wrong
I want to share with you a groundbreaking new study published today in the journal - The New Atlantis, entitled "Sexuality and Gender: Findings from the Biological, Psychological, and Social Sciences."
The report is authored by two eminent scholars and draws upon a huge range of research from the 1950s to the present. Dr. Lawrence Mayer, M.B., M.S., Ph.D., is a scholar-in-residence in the Department of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and a professor of psychiatry and biostatistics at Arizona State University. Dr. Paul McHugh, M.D., is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and served as psychiatrist-in-chief at the University's Hospital for twenty-five years. During his tenure at the hospital, Dr. McHugh put an end to sex reassignment surgery referrals after research showed that the impacts of such procedures do not provide the benefits claimed by those who advocate for it.
The landmark report by Drs. Mayer and McHugh runs to 143 pages, and covers nearly 200 peer-reviewed studies on sexual orientation and gender identity from the biological, psychological, and social sciences.
The essential findings of the study are explained by The New Atlantis editor, Adam Keiper, as follows:
- The belief that sexual orientation is an innate, biologically fixed human property—that people are ‘born that way'—is not supported by scientific evidence.
- Likewise, the belief that gender identity is an innate, fixed human property independent of biological sex—so that a person might be a ‘man trapped in a woman's body' or ‘a woman trapped in a man's body'—is not supported by scientific evidence.
- Only a minority of children who express gender-atypical thoughts or behavior will continue to do so into adolescence or adulthood. There is no evidence that all such children should be encouraged to become transgender, much less subjected to hormone treatments or surgery.
- Non-heterosexual and transgender people have higher rates of mental health problems (anxiety, depression, suicide), as well as behavioral and social problems (substance abuse, intimate partner violence), than the general population. Discrimination alone does not account for the entire disparity.

The importance of this new study cannot be overstated. As Keiper explains in the Editor's Note to the report:
Questions related to sexuality and gender bear on some of the most intimate and personal aspects of human life. In recent years they have also vexed American politics. We offer this report in the hope of improving public understanding of these questions. Examining research from the biological, psychological, and social sciences, this report shows that some of the most frequently heard claims about sexuality and gender are not supported by scientific evidence. The report has a special focus on the higher rates of mental health problems among LGBT populations, and it questions the scientific basis of trends in the treatment of children who do not identify with their biological sex. More effort is called for to provide these people with the understanding, care, and support they need to lead healthy, flourishing lives [emphasis added].
Another important thing to note, as many will try to detract from this study and claim that it is rooted in animus or anti-LGBT bigotry, is that one of the lead authors expresses himself in the introduction as very sympathetic to the plight of the LGBT community, and describes himself as a strong supporter of equality and opponent of discrimination. He has testified in court for the LGBT community. Even so, he writes that , "I support every sentence in this report without reservation and without prejudice regarding any political or philosophical debates. This report is about science and medicine, nothing more and nothing less."

Thank you in advance for your help to promote this research and expose the lies of the media and LGBT activists that contradict not only common sense but also the best scientific knowledge.
