Australia: Any comment that disagrees with homosexuality = hate speech?

One of the lead campaigners behind Ireland's historic same-sex marriage referendum has urged Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and parliamentarians not to go ahead with a plebiscite, warning the experience was "brutal" for gay and lesbian people and their families.

Grainne Healy, co-director of the Yes Equality campaign, said Irish volunteers needed counselling after abuse and hate speech from reform opponents, calling for MPs to stop Australia from seeing an unnecessary plebiscite campaign.

In a letter to all MPs, Healy said a plebiscite on homosexual marriage would bring about hurtful and divisive commentary under the guise of fair debate. But from the LGBTQ perspective any comment against homosexuality is deemed to be hateful.

The truth does hurt! LGBT parents do hide truth from their kids wanting to blame others. The LGBT lifestyle is sinful, disordered, against biology, against evolution and against the health of kids.

"Some LGBT canvassers who were out asking for rights for themselves suffered greatly from the hateful comments they heard on doorsteps and in train or bus stations while canvassing."

Any comment against homosexual marriage is deemed to be hateful!

Healy warned MPs not to underestimate how damaging the campaign ahead of a vote, now expected in February, could be.

Homosexual Marriage is NOT a human or civil right. It never has been even though it is claimed to be. This is standard LGBT tactics.

"As a civil and human rights issue of equality, as a matter of family equality and as a matter of equality for our sons and daughters and our friends and workmates - legislation to introduce marriage equality is what is needed in Australia and those who support marriage equality rights must move to see that legislation introduced as quickly as possible and the proposed divisive plebiscite should not take place."

In the mainstream media space, however, there has been no evidence of “hate” or “bigotry” from the pro-marriage side. While debate may be robust at times, as it should be in a mature democracy, our spokespeople have always been respectful.

In contrast, a senior Canberra press gallery journalist this week took to Twitter to describe supporters of marriage as “Neanderthals”.

I have been called a “creep” and a “nauseating piece of filth” on Twitter by another senior journalist, who incidentally tweets this to 50,000 people.

These are not trolls, they are journalists who support changing the definition of marriage. If I started calling same-sex marriage advocates these sorts of names on social media, I would be hounded from my job and rightly so.
