Homosexuality Slavery and the Bible
Rudd infers that the Apostle Paul and hence Christianity supports and endorses slavery like the US Civil War period. Paul's focus was not slavery but the primacy of salvation alone and for believers to represent Christ with honor.
Slavery in the New Testament were more like work contracts, employment focus very dissimilar to US slavery. Many slaves paid off their debts to those they owed money, ran households, businesses and often stayed on after the debt was paid.
Kevin Rudd has portrayed slavery as an evil that Paul fully supported wholeheartedly, therefore he was wrong in this area, therefore he is wrong regarding homosexuality in Romans 1.
Based on that argument, he would also be wrong on salvation, eternal death, predestination, divorce...etc etc etc. all of Paul's writing are purely cultural, therefore Rudd does not believe scripture is the word of God, or that Christ is central to the gospel and not love.

The centrality of the gospel is not love for each other and that God loves everybody but Christ crucified for the sins of the world. Sexuality and sin are both clearly defined in scripture. Sex is described as good within marriage between a husband and a wife as described by Jesus but not answered by Rudd.
He said his decision to back gay marriage was made after "years of reflection in good Christian conscience". "I do not believe people when they are born choose their sexuality. They are gay if they are born gay," he said.
