GLADD doesn't want movies where LGBT die
Recent film and TV seasons have sadly seen an overwhelming overrepresentation of lesbians and queer women. Suddenly they are everywhere! But GLADD is very upset because many lesbians end up dying on screen, from Atomic Blonde to Cloud Atlas.
GLADD objects! Stop killing homosexuals make them heroes! GLAAD stated in a 2016 report, killing off these characters is just not fair. They should be depicted as normal, healthy leaders, prosperous, friendly - all opposites of what their sinful lifestyle in reality is. Currently, we see homosexual men kiss or hug on screen, but many will walk out of theatres when they show gay sex scenes. Movie directors recognize very clearly when something is being shoved down viewers throats.
"Over 25 lesbian and bisexual female-identifying characters have died on scripted broadcast and cable television and streaming series since the beginning of 2016.The 2018 report, meanwhile, said, "Broadcast television (and television as a whole) has yet to recover from the past two seasons, which included the deaths of an overwhelming number of lesbian and bisexual women characters."
GLADD says it sends a dangerous message to audiences that LGBTQ+ people are secondary and disposable. GLADD wants all lesbian and homosexual characters to be strong to be victorious, healthy normal, prosperous and not dying on screen.
GLADD appears to ignore the fact that ministers of religion, pastors and married couples rarely if at all, appear as normal people on the screen. They are depicted as irrelevant idiots.
GLADD also conveniently ignores the fact that sex is always portrayed before marriage as a normality. Marriage is rarely mentioned. Sex is promoted as a hookup culture. Couples have sex immediately after they meet. No mention of sexual diseases, marriage, responsibility, childbirth. Every movie show couples living together without bothering to get married. But GLADD wants the gay community to be treated differently from everybody else.
Turn on your TV or go to a movie, and because in some quarters homosexuality is trendy - they are appearing on every show and clearly over-represented.
The "Bury Your Gays" trope, which suggests that LGBTQ+ people aren't allowed happy endings and that they are destined for tragedy, unfortunately, exists because it does reflect this broken sinful lifestyle choice.
