Showdown: Alberta’s Catholic trustees unite behind bishops against gvmt ‘transgender’ mandate

Image
The association that represents all Catholic school trustees in Alberta has fired back against the New Democrat government’s new guidelines for forming mandatory transgender policies in all schools, including Catholic ones, stating that it’s the bishops, not the government, that provides “moral and theological leadership” to Catholic schools . In a statement issued earlier this week that comes as a blow to NDP Education Minister David Eggen , the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association (ACSTA) stated that it “reaffirms the responsibility and the role of the Alberta Catholic Bishops to provide moral and theological leadership to the Catholic community including Catholic education communities .” It added that while it “reaffirms its commitment to work with Alberta Education” it at the same time “regrets Alberta Education's lack of consultation during the development of the Guidelines for Best Practices resource material.” Last week the NDP issued “best practices” guidel...

Gay man sues IRS for $36k tax deduction for cost of IVF, surrogate: IRS rejects

Image
Is the procreative impossibility of homosexual activity the same as heterosexuals being biologically infertile?  Stetson University law professor Joseph Morrissey is suing for a tax deduction of $36,538 for in vitro fertilization treatments and the cost of a surrogate to carry twin boys for himself and his male partner. In denying Morrissey's claim, the IRS explained that for tax deductions, the medical services must be provided to the taxpayer, his spouse, or his dependent. Therefore, a surrogate does not qualify, and neither does IVF for someone other than the filer, his spouse, or his dependent. What Morrissey is focusing on, however, is the words of the IRS agent who turned down his IVF tax deduction. The IRS agent noted that Morrissey's sexual orientation is a "choice." Morrissey's lawsuit states, "Despite the IRS's backward and archaic thinking, plaintiff is not homosexual by 'choice.'" Morrissey claims that the pro...

The New Tolerance Must Crumble, Says Don Carson

Image
Have we already forgotten Kim Davis ? “It shows how quickly the news cycles spin things out and leave them in a dust heap in the rearview mirror,” said theologian Don Carson . “A bare six months ago the nation was full of talk about ‘the woman from Kentucky .’” Davis, 50, that “woman from Kentucky,” as some may remember, is county clerk for Rowan County. Her story, said Carson, is worth pulling from the heap and revisiting as an opportunity for believers to think through complex issues of Christian faithfulness in a declining culture. Here’s a brief dust-off. In its historic ruling on Obergefell this summer, in a hotly contested 5–4 decision, the Supreme Court pronounced the right to legal “marriage” is guaranteed to same-sex couples by the U.S. Constitution . Out of conscience, Davis refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, even to her gay friends. “I can’t put my name on a license that doesn’t represent what God ordained marriage to be,” she said at the time. Such ...

Mexican Supreme Court rules state law upholding man-woman marriage is unconstitutional

Image
The Mexican Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the civil code of the state of Jalisco is unconstitutional because it defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, according to reports in the national media. However, pro-family activists say the fight isn’t over yet, and that state lawmakers are free to ignore the decision and maintain the civil code as it is for at least 90 more days. In a unanimous vote by a plenary assembly of all eleven ministers, the Supreme Court sought to nullify article 258 of the code, which states that “Marriage is an institution of public character and social interest, by means of which a man and a woman decide to share a state of life in search of their personal fulfillment and the foundation of a family.” The Supreme Court’s ruling came in response to a complaint by the National Commission on Human Rights ( CNDH ) which reportedly criticized the law for violating the constitution’s guarantee of the “free development of personality” as a rig...

Alberta bishop doubles down amid attacks for calling NDP gender mandate ‘totalitarian’

Image
In the face of calls for his resignation, name calling, and accusations of “judging” and of acting contrary to the “openness” of Pope Francis, Calgary Bishop Fred Henry is defending a pastoral letter he wrote last week critical of the Alberta Government’s gender guidelines for forming policy in schools, including Catholic ones. “If you are reading this piece in the hopes of discovering an apology and/or a retraction, you might as well stop reading right now. That's simply not going to happen,” he wrote near the opening of his letter released today. Two weeks ago the NDP’s Education Minister David Eggen released some “best practices” guidelines that he expected all school boards in the province, including Catholic ones, to use in forming mandatory transgender policies that must be in place by March. “If you are reading this piece in the hopes of discovering an apology and/or a retraction, you might as well stop reading right now. That's simply not going to happen....

Australian of the year 2016 urged to examine rights of children in homosexual marriage debate

Image
Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton today congratulated the Australian of the Year , Lieutenant General David Morrison , but urged him to examine the other side of the homosexual marriage debate. “Lieutenant General Morrison’s firm stand against the disrespecting of women in the military was inspirational and he rightly deserves today’s honour. “However it was disappointing to hear him lending support to changing the definition of marriage , something that entrenches inequality for children who are forced to miss out on their mother or father. “There is no inequality in Australian law against same-sex couples following law changes in 2008. However, redefining marriage in law would confer a right to found a family which in turn would require children to be conceived through ethically dubious anonymous sperm donation and ultimately commercial surrogacy . Queensland Australia: Jailed for stating homosexuality is a sin?

Christianity is being criminalised and the more it is, the more we lose our freedoms. What happened to George Youssef from the 'Operation 513' Team on the Gold Coast , because he shared the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is a classic case in point. Friday night, 4 December 2015, for George Youssef and his team was like any other Friday night of the year. The Operation 513 street evangelism team gathered in the Cavill Mall , Surfers Paradise to share the good news of God's love through Jesus Christ. The name  Operation 513 is taken from the words of Jesus found in Matthew 5:13 , "You are the salt of the earth but what good is salt if it has lost its flavour"(NLT). Many might call the 513 Team, 'Street Preachers', and argue that they are rather unusual but the truth of the matter is that George Youssef and his team come from a long line of street preachers. John Wesley , George Whitfield , St Francis of Assisi were all street preachers. The greatest s...
