Greens Transgender Politician takes preiest to court?

Image
The national newspapers reporting of the freedom-sapping effects of same-sex marriage legislation is a potential game-changer in the long-running debate. After years of the gay lobby saying there were no consequences to changing the definition of marriage , suddenly mainstream media is waking up to the fact that this is not true. Concerns that ACL and others have raised for years about the impacts on freedom of speech and religion are now being taken seriously by serious journalists. The action against Hobart Archbishop Julian Porteous and the entire Australian Catholic Bishop’s Conference in the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commission has woken journalists at News Corp with a jolt. The action is by Greens political candidate and transgender activist, Martine Delaney, who has claimed offence under the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Act over a Catholic booklet entitled “Don’t Mess with Marriage”. The booklet contains all of the key arguments our side of the debate wou...

Confused politician on homosexual marriage - Australia

Image
Bleijie has capitulated on marriage and is seen as a blow to a large part of his support base who are conservatives.  The capitulation of former Queensland Attorney General Jarrod Bleijie on the meaning of marriage will come as a big disappointment for people who voted for him, according to Australian Christian Lobby Queensland director Wendy Francis. “Throughout his career, Mr Bleijie has actively sought the votes of people who believe in the right of children to wherever possible be raised by their parents. “To now take a position on marriage that mandates a family structure denying this basic right to children is a blow to his social justice credentials and a breach of trust to voters.” Ms Francis said Mr Bleijie had played into the hands of those described by Paul Kelly in the Weekend Australian yesterday as seeking to “drive religion into the shadows”. “At a time when the public are very cynical about politicians, it is disappointing to see a politician jettiso...

Using modern science to treat homosexuality

Image
Homosexuality is an issue that has been shaped by Western values , and is now front-and-center in almost every country and culture around the world, especially those societies influenced by secular humanism. But even more traditional societies, such as those in Africa, have not gone unaffected by it, given how social media shrinks our globe. In polemics over homosexuality, Catholicism is often falsely accused of being both “homophobic” and “anti-science.” But the Catholic Church is far from being against science, a fact that can be seen by the large number of priests who have been top scientists, such as Georges Lemaître, who proposed the Big Bang theory , and Gregor Mendel , the father of modern genetics. In fact, the Church encourages the upright work of scientists in all fields. Simply reading what the Church officially teaches about science—today and historically—would easily confirm this positive view (e.g., see parts 1 and 2 of the Introduction of the Congregation fo...

CDC: Gay lifestyle fraught with violence

Image
ATLANTA, Georgia ,- The Centers for Disease Control 's "National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey" (NISVS) has found that homosexuals disproportionately suffer violence, and inflict violence on one another. The CDC   survey   is the first of its kind to present comparisons of victimization by sexual orientation for men and women. Its data indicate that homosexuals experience sexual violence at much higher rates than heterosexual men and women. Twenty-six percent of homosexual men and 37% of bisexual men experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner. Forty-four percent of lesbians and 61% of bisexual women experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Half (48%) of bisexual women who have been raped experienced their first completed rape between the ages of 11 and 17 years. Significantly, the CDC report found that sexual violence began in childhood for many homosexu...

Are gays ‘born that way’? Most Americans now say yes, but science says no

Image
For the first time, a majority of Americans say that homosexuals are "born that way."  According to the latest Gallup poll , 51 percent of Americans say that people are born gay or lesbian, while only 30 percent say outside factors such as upbringing and environment determine sexual orientation. However, science would not bear that out. No fewer than  eight major studies from around the world have found homosexuality is not a genetic condition . Peter Sprigg of the   Family Research Council   says that these numerous, rigorous studies of identical twins have now made it impossible to argue that there is a "gay gene." If homosexuality were inborn and predetermined, then when one identical twin is homosexual, the other should be, as well. Yet one study from Yale and Columbia Universities found homosexuality common to only 6.7 percent of male identical twins and 5.3 percent of female identical twins. The low rate of common homosexuality in identical t...

Doctors ask Alabama Supreme Court to resist Obergefell decision

Image
MONTGOMERY, Alabama  – Pockets of resistance to the Supreme Court's judicial activism in constitutionalizing homosexual "marriage" are cropping up across the United States . Not isolated pockets, either. Large, organized pockets. The latest groups to officially resist Obergefell v Hodges include Alabama pediatricians and an entire church denomination, petitioning the state Supreme Court to disobey federal law in order to "protect" churches, families, and children. The American College of Pediatricians (ACP) submitted a " Friend of the Court " brief November 6. "It is in the best interest of children and this State to preserve the fundamental and immutable nature of marriage between one man and one woman," the brief reads. The association – which unites child and adolescent physicians and health care professionals across the nation – is specifically dedicated to the health and well-being of children. The ACP brief calls the Obergefell de...

Crazy Tasmanian Law - offended homosexuals will take you to court

Image
A Tasmanian woman (transgender - Green Candidate for Federal Parliament)  is taking the Catholic Archbishop of Hobart to the Anti-Discrimination Commission over the contents of a booklet sent to Catholics around Australia earlier this year about same-sex marriage. Here, Associate Professor of Law, Neil Foster examines the basis of the claim. There are press reports (see also here ) that the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hobart is being sued under s 17 of Tasmania’s Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 for causing “offence” or “humiliation”. This was alleged to have been done by the Archbishop causing to be sent to Roman Catholic schools in his diocese, a booklet outlining the church views on marriage, and in particular expressing the well-known opposition of the church to the introduction of same sex marriage. A copy of the booklet, “Don’t Mess with Marriage”, can be downloaded here . It seems clear but also very respectful, and keen to condemn any ill-treatment of those with a ...
