A British "youth" walks past a flaming car during the recent riots. ROME. – When in August thousands of British youth started spontaneously rioting and looting shops in some of the country’s largest urban centres, a great deal of ink was spilled assessing the reasons for the riots. For those not watching out the window, videos were almost instantly available on YouTube of hoodie-clad children, teenagers and twenty-somethings kicking in shop windows, cheerily smiling and laughing while they helped themselves to an array of popular commercial goods. During those strange few days, buildings, shops, homes and warehouses were burned to the ground and four people were killed. No one in Britain or the whole world could have been left in any doubt as to the social disa Image via Wikipedia ster that has been brewing in Britain. After it was all over, Prime Minister David Cameron came rushing back from his Tuscan holiday to tell Parliament that the riots were a symptom of “ Broken B...

White House denounces pro-marriage ballot initiative in North Carolina

Image
The Obama administration has denounced last week’s approval by the North Carolina legislature of a ballot initiative to define marriage as between one man and one woman. White House spokesman Shin Inouye “The President has long believed that gay and  lesbian couples deserve the same rights and legal protections as straight couples,” White House spokesman Shin Inouye  said . “That’s why he has called for repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and determined that his administration would no longer defend the constitutionality of DOMA in the courts.” The North Carolina legislature, by three-fifths majority votes in both the state Senate and House, approved the ballot measure that says that marriage “between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.” The amendment will go on the primary ballot in May 2012, which may make it more likely that the amendment will succeed because Republicans will be dra...

Homosexual couple prepares to sue two Illinois Bed and Breakfasts

Image
The Illinois Department of Human Rights has given a homosexual couple the green light to sue two bed and breakfasts after the establishments refused to let out their premises for their civil union ceremony. The homosexual couple plans to launch the suits so shortly. The news was greeted with incredulity by Illinois attorney and member of the  Alliance Defense Fund Jason Craddock, who is representing Timber Creek Bed and Breakfast in Paxton. Timber Creek Bed and Breakfast is one of two B&Bs in Illinois that are about to be sued by a homosexual couple for refusing to host their civil union ceremony. “I believe strongly that liberty of conscience, particularly religious liberty of conscience, is what our nation was built on and is something that goes deep to our souls,” he said. “Now we’re getting into a situation where government is telling people of faith, ‘You can’t live out your faith if it happens to disagree with this particular group.’” An Illinois Department of Human...

Conflict of ‘enormous proportions’ brewing thanks to Obama anti-marriage stance: head of US bishops

Image
The head of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has expressed his “strong disappointment” in an open letter to the U.S. president over his policies that threaten true marriage and the traditional family. “Recent actions taken by your Administration … both escalate the threat to marriage and imperil the religious freedom of those who promote and defend marriage,” wrote New York’s Archbishop Dolan to President Obama on September 20th, 2011. “Mr. President, I respectfully urge you to push the reset button on your Administration‟s approach to DOMA,” wrote Archbishop Dolan to the president in a recent letter. This letter comes at a time when the Obama Administration has shifted  from not defending the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to actively attacking the Act’s constitutionality. Just two months ago the Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a brief in Golinski v. U.S. Office of Personnel Management , arguing that DOMA should be struck down as a form of sexual orie...

Texas high school student suspended for saying homosexuality is wrong

A Christian high school student was punished by his school this week for saying he believes “being a homosexual is wrong.” 14-year-old Dakota Ary was suspended for saying he believes being a homosexual is "wrong." Dakota Ary, 14, says his statement was part of a one-on-one conversation about religions in Germany with a friend sitting behind him during a language class, according to a local  Fox News report . “I guess [the teacher] heard me. He started yelling,” said Ary. “He told me he was going to write me an infraction and send me to the office.” Holly Pope, Ary’s mother, said she was in “disbelief” over the punishment. “My son is on the honor roll with great grades. I don’t have any problems out of him,” she said. The mother was not satisfied when the school principal reduced the in-school suspension from two days to one. She brought an attorney with her to meet the principal Wednesday and is demaning a promise of no retaliation over the event and that the event be remo...

Homosexual rebellion against God

Image by senatorchriscoons via Flickr Having wisdom is not the same thing as being clever or smart. When the Bible speaks of the folly of fools, the reference is not to those who struggle with the higher forms of calculus. In Scripture, folly is a moral issue, and many very intelligent people exhibit the problem. In short, knowledge is not wisdom. When personified Wisdom speaks at the end of the eighth chapter of Proverbs, she says that all who hate her “love death” ( Prov. 8:36). Application of this truth to the particular case of sexual orientation reveals a great deal. All who hate sexual wisdom love sexual death. Our culture-wide rejection of sexual wisdom is the real problem. In short, the problem of homosexuality extends far beyond homosexuals . A man may talk quite a bit without revealing an understanding mind. In the same way, a culture may frantically pursue sexual activity , and may exhibit a morbid fascination with sexual issues, and yet be far from sexual wisdom. We...
