Southern Poverty Law Center sues after it believes reparative therapy does not change teens’ sexual orientation

Image
November 29, 2012, ( Family Research Council )—With its credibility drying up, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is determined to cement its status as the homosexual movement’s greatest ally. Desperate to regain its status in the civil rights debate, the group is following the money to the gay community, where it hopes the partnership will help SPLC regain some of the legitimacy it lost bullying mainstream conservatives. Their latest attempt to claw their way back into the spotlight is a lawsuit aimed at destroying the ex-gay movement . This week, SPLC announced that it is suing a Jewish organization called JONAH (Jews Offering New Alternatives of Healing) for consumer fraud. They allege that the therapy, which is designed to bring homosexuals out of bondage and into healthy behavior, failed. That’s as ridiculous as suing Weight Watchers because they promised you’d lose weight and you didn’t. Then you have a small minority of the population which says it is wrong, b...

Image
November 29, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A U.S. congresswoman is calling on Congress to denounce therapies designed to help clients overcome unwanted same-sex attraction . California Rep. Jackie Speier said her “ Stop Harming Our Kids ” resolution will “bring us some reality checks” about sexuality. Rep. Jackie Speier The non-binding resolution condemns so-called sexual reparative therapy, and urges states to introduce laws similar to one passed in California that bans the therapy for minors. “Let’s get this straight,” Speier said at a press conference announcing the resolution. “Being gay, lesbian [or] transgender is not a disease to be cured or a mental health issue to be treated.” Speier, who is Catholic, condemned reparative therapy as “quackery” and said “we should not be supporting it with taxpayer dollars.” The congresswoman was joined at the press conference by two men who said they underwent reparative therapy and were harmed by the experience. Speier’s ...

Canada poised to partially lift ban on gay men giving blood

Image
OTTAWA, Ontario, November 28, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canadian Blood Services ( CBS ) has revealed that it is about to exchange the lifetime ban on homosexuals donating blood for a deferral system. According to  a plan  submitted to Health Canada, men who have not had sex with other men for somewhere between five to ten years would be eligible to donate. CBS spokesman Ron Vezina  told the Edmonton Journal  that the organization is convinced that it has sufficient evidence to support a change from a permanent prohibition to a deferral. Canadian Red Cross had put the ban in place in 1983 after thousands of Canadians were infected with HIV and hepatitis C from contaminated blood. Criminal charges were laid against several doctors, blood products companies, and the Canadian Red Cross. The current blood prohibition  states : “All men who have had sex with another man, even once, since 1977 are indefinitely deferred. This is based on current scientif...

David Cameron faces ‘biggest Tory rebellion in modern times’ over gay ‘marriage’ plans

Image
LONDON, November 28, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – With nearly 120 MPs ready to rebel against David Cameron ’s plans to create same-sex “marriage,” a project that appeared in no Tory policy book during the last election campaign, the UK prime minister is facing a crucial test of his leadership of the Conservative Party . The Daily mail  revealed  this week that 118 Tory MPs have written to their constituents that they intend to oppose any bill brought forward to change the legal definition of marriage, a development that the Daily Mail is calling the “biggest Tory rebellion in modern times”. Parliamentary sources have said that a bill could be released “within a few weeks”. Since the announcement of the plan to redefine marriage in September 2011, the plan has met with steadily increasing opposition not only from conservative Christian groups, but from within Cameron’s own party. The government angered voters when its public consultation only allowed discussion on “how”...

Tammy Baldwin's Election and 'Glee' are Signs that America is 'Falling Apart'

Talk show host Janet Mefferd invited Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality onto her  program  on Friday to mourn the recent string of electoral victories of openly gay candidates and gay rights measures.  Mefferd : Seven million white voters stayed home, everything was about this minority group and we should’ve been more pro-amnesty etcetera, and there was a lot of discussion about how the GOP needs to be for amnesty now, needs to do this and that to reach the particular Latino group or what have you, and in fact you wonder how many of those white voters who stayed home actually would’ve come out if they would’ve had a candidate who had a backbone on issues that are culturally important to them. LaBarbera : Let’s talk about the homosexual issue Janet, of course Romney barely, I don’t know in the general election, was it raised at all? Mefferd : No. LaBarbera : We’re talking about a sin movement here. Would we be ticking off any other c...

Are homosexual comic characters seeding immorality?

Image
Captain America's costume displays many features common to superheroes. Art by Gabriele Dell'Otto (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Jennifer LeClaire , the news editor of Charisma Magazine , is warning against new comic books that feature openly gay superheroes , explaining that she views “the rise of gay superheroes as just another example of the spirit of immorality waging war on young souls.” She writes that the “the industry is planting seeds in young minds” of “the spirit of sexual immorality” and asks readers to “pray for the people behind the industries that are pumping out anti-Christ content laced with immorality and idolatry of all kinds”: Some have said the recent same-sex moves in the comic book industry are about driving more revenue to the bottom line. Others claim it’s political correctness. I can’t judge the motives of man’s heart. No matter the motive, I see the rise of gay superheroes as just another example of the spirit of immorality waging war on young...

Mayor dismissed by refusing to join Homosexual Pride Nudity Parade

Image
Rob Ford , Toronto ’s right-leaning mayor, was booted from office Monday morning after two years of relentless attacks from liberal politicians and media. Rob Ford Ontario Justice Charles Hackland found him guilty of a conflict of interest after he voted on a city council measure involving donations to his football foundation. Ford, who was elected in 2010 on fiscally conservative promises to “stop the gravy train,” had especially angered the city’s liberal stronghold by, among other things,  refusing to attend Toronto’s Gay Pride parade as previous mayors had done. He was also up front about his opposition to same-sex “marriage.” Ford will be allowed to run for the mayor’s office again, however. The judge had the option of barring him from running for up to seven years. NZ homosexual marriage bill 'no threat to religious groups'?

Image
New Zealand Parliament 's government administration committee is currently hearing submissions on the proposed law to allow same-sex couples to marry, the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill. During these hearings, some religious groups have expressed concern that the bill will force them to conduct marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples. This is despite the Human Rights Commission saying it will do no such thing and the bill's author saying that the bill is not meant to do so. However, the New Zealand Law Society , in its submission to the committee, has now thrown its weight behind these religious groups' fears. It then suggests that the bill be amended to make it clear that this outcome is not intended. If that change really is needed, then so be it, but I think the law society is wrong and the bill as it stands would not require anything new of any religious group. To explain why, I first need to say something about how the Marriage Act 1955 works....

Alberta School Boards Association rejects ‘sexual orientation’ policy

Image
EDMONTON, Alberta , 23 November, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Alberta parents who support traditional values are breathing a sigh of relief after the Alberta School Boards Association ( ASBA ) rejected a proposal calling for policies to deal with an alleged “pervasive school-wide culture of homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism”. Sixty-two percent of the boards voted to reject the proposal at the ASBA fall meeting held on Monday. The motion would have added language specifically singling out gay , lesbian, bi-sexual , and transgender students to an already existing anti-bullying policy. Jacquie Hansen, president of the Alberta School Boards Association, said that the majority of trustees rejected the policy over concerns that it unnecessarily focused on a certain group of students. “The feeling in the room was we’d rather have a policy for all kids and that bullying shouldn’t be tolerated no matter who you are or what you have to deal with in your world.” She called m...
