Resolution filed in Ark. legislature calls for changing U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriage

The resolution calls for a constitutional convention to amend the U.S. Constitution to stop states from recognizing the marriages. The bill was read in the Arkansas State Senate on Thursday, February 2, 2017 and referred to the Senate Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs.

SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 8 AN APPLICATION TO CONGRESS TO CALL A CONVENTION FOR 9 PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT UNDER UNITED STATES 10 CONSTITUTION, ARTICLE, V, FOR THE PURPOSE OF 11 PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT PROHIBITING THE UNITED STATES 12 CONSTITUTION OR THE CONSTITUTIONS OR LAWS OF ANY 13 STATE FROM DEFINING OR CONSTRUING THE DEFINITION OF 14 "MARRIAGE" TO MEAN OTHER THAN THE UNION OF ONE MAN 15 AND ONE WOMAN.
